Evolution of covalent organic frameworks: from design to real-world applications

Covalent Organic Frameworks are highly versatile porous materials that have attracted much attention over the last few years. This review summarizes the timeline of its development, highlighting the shifts in the targets deemed necessary to use them in real-world applications. We have collected aspects concerning COF formation and the strategies developed to gain chemical stability by using different linkages between the initial building blocks and modulating the structural characteristics of COFs. Importantly, we have also included elements concerning material processability that has been incorporated in the research field of COFs but are essential to solving many different applications of COFs. Finally, we included a summary section providing headlines of this research field to get closer to real applicationsThis work has been supported by the Spanish MICINN (PID2019- 106268GB-C32, and TED2021-129886B-C42) and through the “María de Maeztu” Programme for Units of Excellence in R&D (CEX2018- 000805-M). Application of the «Alexander Technique» in violin and viola classrooms. Analysis of its impact through audiovisual materials

    Get PDF
The teaching and learning process of a musical instrument is intrinsically related to the development of procedural skills, where the acquisition of control in the execution of the actions occupies a highly significant place. From this point we turn our gaze towards the Alexander Technique (AT), where the mind-body is assumed to function in an integrated way. In the present study we examine the impact of its implementation in violin and viola classrooms, in relation to the modeling of specific behaviors to the performance and musical interpretation through a recording technology. To do this, we use the qualitative methodological paradigm, which conforms both to the objectives of our research as well as to the theoretical-practical foundation of AT, characterized by a holistic vision. The study starts from a specific course in this subject for elementary and professional teachers of violin and viola. After its completion, different teachers videotaped their pedagogical practices implementing the TA, which we analyzed through our proposed analytical model of classroom praxis. Using the Atlas.ti software for the treatment of the data from the audiovisual records, the results revealed that the professors subject to research incorporate various aspects of the AT in their pedagogical-didactic classroom action. The conclusions point to a set of potentialities that the application of AT presents in relation to the instrumental teaching-learning process.peerReviewe

Producción CientíficaPillow stuffing can contain polyester, feathers, down, or, more recently, soy-based materials. Component-resolved diagnosis and microarray technology might be useful in patients with foodsensitized allergies or anaphylaxis caused by hidden allergens. We report 4 patients with repeated anaphylaxis, which was defined as a decrease in blood pressure and possibly lifethreatening adverse reactions1 during sleep at home but not in other places. Patient 1 was a 64-year-old woman with previous nocturnal rhinitis who began to experience anaphylaxis during sleep. Patient 2 was a 58-year-old man with progressive rhinitis, asthma, and anaphylaxis after changing his bedroom furniture and bed linen. Patient 3 was a 64-year-old woman with previous sensitization to Anisakis simplex and nocturnal pharyngeal angioedema unrelated to eating fish or other sources of A simplex who experienced severe anaphylaxis during sleep. Patient 4 was a 69-year-old woman with nocturnal anaphylaxis for 1 year before diagnosi

Assembling Nonplanar Polyaromatic Units by Click Chemistry. Study of Multicorannulene Systems as Host for Fullerenes

    Get PDF
Producción CientíficaNovel compounds with two or three corannulene subunits have been obtained by “click chemistry”. These exotic systems were synthesized in high yields using the ethynylcorannulene as common reagent. The synergistic action as receptors for fullerenes of several corannulene blocks has been evaluated. It was found that the three-armed derivatives showed efficient complexation abilities toward C60. Furthermore, a new compound having two corannulene subunits linked to a hexahelicene scaffold has a remarkable affinity constant. Finally, theoretical calculations have been performed to evaluate the formation of their relative adducts containing a C60 molecule.Ministerio de Economía, Industria y Competitividad (Projects 258 CTQ2013-41067-P and CTQ2011-23862-C02

Iron Oxyhydroxide-Covalent Organic Framework Nanocomposite for Efficient As(III) Removal in Water

The presence of heavy metal ions in water is an environmental issue derived mainly from industrial and mineral contamination. Metal ions such as Cd(II), Pb(II), Hg(II), or As(III) are a significant health concern worldwide because of their high toxicity, mobility, and persistence. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are an emerging class of crystalline organic porous materials that exhibit very interesting properties such as chemical stability, tailored design, and low density. COFs also allow the formation of composites with remarkable features because of the synergistic combination effect of their components. These characteristics make them suitable for various applications, among which water remediation is highly relevant. Herein, we present a novel nanocomposite of iron oxyhydroxide@COF (FeOOH@Tz-COF) in which lepidocrocite (γ-FeOOH) nanorods are embedded in between the COF nanoparticles favoring As(III) remediation in water. The results show a remarkable 98.4% As(III) uptake capacity in a few minutes and impressive removal efficiency in a wide pH range (pH 5−11). The chemical stability of the material in the working pH range and the capability of capturing other toxic heavy metals such as Pb(II) and Hg(II) without interference confirm the potential of FeOOH@Tz-COF as an effective adsorbent for water remediation even under harsh conditionsThis work has been supported by the Spanish MINECO (PID2019-106268GB-C32 and PCI2019-103594) and through the “María de Maeztu” Programme for Units of Excellence in R&D (CEX2018-000805-M
