    Topological Symmetries

    Get PDF
We introduce the notion of a topological symmetry as a quantum mechanical symmetry involving a certain topological invariant. We obtain the underlying algebraic structure of the Z_2-graded uniform topological symmetries of type (1,1) and (2,1). This leads to a novel derivation of the algebras of supersymmetry and p=2p=2 parasupersummetry.Comment: Plain LaTeX Ref: Mod. Phys. Lett. A 15, 175-184 (2000

Unusual Behaviour of an Earth-Rockhill Dam

    Get PDF
The post-construction behaviour of a 47.5 m high and 700 m long earth-rockfill dam, located in northwestern Iran, is described. The embankment dam is founded on Tertiary rock on both abutments, but in the river channel it rests on alluvial deposits of variable composition and thickness. Since the first impoundment, the dam has undergone large deformations, both in vertical and in horizontal directions. These have resulted in unusual differential settlements, visible along the crest, and have produced wide longitudinal cracks in the asphalt pavement of the crest road. The principle features of the dam are described and selected monitoring results of the crest movements for a sixteen year period are presented. Based on the analysis of the available data and taking into account the geotechnical characteristics of the foundation and the fill materials, an interpretation of the unusual behaviour has been attempted

Application of linear and nonlinear vibration absorbers for the nonlinear beam under moving load

    Get PDF
Recently, a large amount of studies have been related to nonlinear systems with multi-degrees of freedom as well as continuous systems. The purpose of this paper is to optimize passive vibration absorbers in linear and nonlinear states for an Euler-Bernoulli beam with a nonlinear vibratory behavior under concentrated moving load. The goal parameter in the optimization is maximum deflection of the beam. The large deformation for beam modeling is considered, i.e. the relation between strains and deflections is nonlinear. The force magnitude and beam length are two effective factors for the beam deflection. Vibration absorber with linear damping and linear or nonlinear stiffness is also considered in this manuscript. The results show that, for normal forces and short beams, linear and nonlinear models have similar behaviors, while surveying nonlinear behavior is necessary by increasing the force and length of the beam, i.e. large deflections. Moreover, the difference between linear and nonlinear beam models for regular force magnitudes and beam lengths is negligible. For higher loads and longer beams, beam model nonlinearity can be important. Results demonstrate that,in the presented numerical values (train bridge application) for cubic nonlinear vibration absorber, there are two optimal locations for vibration absorber installation: one inclined from the middle of the beam to the direction of moving loads and the second which is more interestingly inclined from the middle of the beam to moving loads in the opposite direction. Moreover, depending on the model's numerical parameters, for short beams, linear vibration absorber is more effective, while for long beams, cubic nonlinear beam behaves better than the linear one

    Get PDF
To date, there are few studies about the properties of walnut brown seed coat. The antioxidant activity and properties of walnut brown seed coat was considered in this study and the amounts of carotenoids, chlorophylla, chlorophyllb, vitamin E were determined. The antioxidant activity was determined by cupric assay, DPPH, and measurement of oxidative stability in sunflower oil against Copper sulfate. Walnut brown seed coat at 1 was effective antioxidant in comparison to BHT in inhibition of lipid peroxidation. This extract presented the highest vitamin E level (1.4± 0.042 mg/g). DPPH assay showed the extract had the high radical scavenging ability. The results of this study showed the walnut brown seed coat possessed strong antioxidant properties in vitro, hence it might be beneficial in human health. © 2009-2016, JGPT

In many parts of the world consumption of fish and seafood comprises a key proportion of man's diet and health. Despite of having many benefits, eating fish can be dangerous for instance the existence of nonorganic material, especially heavy metals, in some fish is dangerous. There are numerous fish breeding pools across the Lorestan province of Iran and the majority of the people living in these areas consume these kinds of fish, so, we were impelled to carry out a study to compare the nutrients and also heavy metals existent in freshwater fish and seawater fish available to the public across Khorramabad city of Iran. In this cross-sectional study, 9 samples of each five species of freshwater and sea water fish were purchased and their total protein, fat, omega 3, 6, and 9 fatty acids and also their heavy metals content including mercury, lead and cadmium of them were measured. There were no significant differences between mean protein content of the two types of fish. The amount of total fat and omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids of freshwater fish was higher than of seawater fish (P>0.001). The levels of cadmium in seawater fish was significantly higher than freshwater fish (P>0.001), and as for the level of mercury and lead, no significant difference was observed between the two types of freshwater fish and seawater fish. According to the results, we recommend that people can secure a part of their protein and unsaturated fatty acids need by consuming freshwater fish

A flexible and parallelizable approach to genome-wide polygenic risk scores.

The heritability of most complex traits is driven by variants throughout the genome. Consequently, polygenic risk scores, which combine information on multiple variants genome-wide, have demonstrated improved accuracy in genetic risk prediction. We present a new two-step approach to constructing genome-wide polygenic risk scores from meta-GWAS summary statistics. Local linkage disequilibrium (LD) is adjusted for in Step 1, followed by, uniquely, long-range LD in Step 2. Our algorithm is highly parallelizable since block-wise analyses in Step 1 can be distributed across a high-performance computing cluster, and flexible, since sparsity and heritability are estimated within each block. Inference is obtained through a formal Bayesian variable selection framework, meaning final risk predictions are averaged over competing models. We compared our method to two alternative approaches: LDPred and lassosum using all seven traits in the Welcome Trust Case Control Consortium as well as meta-GWAS summaries for type 1 diabetes (T1D), coronary artery disease, and schizophrenia. Performance was generally similar across methods, although our framework provided more accurate predictions for T1D, for which there are multiple heterogeneous signals in regions of both short- and long-range LD. With sufficient compute resources, our method also allows the fastest runtimes

By defining the concept of culture, the potential development of culture between humans and robots is explored. Based on the cultural values of the robotics developers, and the learning ability of current robots, cultural attributes in this regard are in the process of being formed, which would define the new concept of cultural robotics. According to the importance of the embodiment of robots in the sense of presence, the influence of robots in communication culture is anticipated. The sustainability of robotics culture based on diversity for cultural communities for various acceptance modalities is explored in order to anticipate the creation of different attributes of culture between robot and humans in the futurePeer reviewe
