Influence of Kaolinite Clay Supplementation on Growth Performance and Digestive Function in Finishing Calf-fed Holstein Steers.

Two experiments were conducted to examine the influence of kaolinite clay supplementation (0%, 1%, or 2% diet dry matter [DM] basis) on characteristics of digestion (Trial 1) and growth performance (Trial 2) in calf-fed Holstein steers fed a finishing diet. In Trial 1, 6 Holstein steers (539±15 kg) with ruminal and duodenal cannulas were used to evaluate treatment effects on characteristics of digestion. Kaolinite clay supplementation decreased total tract DM digestion (linear effect, p<0.01) without effects (p≥0.10) on site and extent of digestion of organic matter, neutral detergent fiber, starch and N, or ruminal microbial efficiency. There were no treatment effects on ruminal pH, volatile fatty acids molar proportions or estimated methane production. In Trial 2, 108 Holstein steers (132.4±5.6 kg) were used in a 308-d study to evaluate growth performance and carcass characteristics. There were no treatment effects (p>0.10) on average daily gain (ADG) and gain efficiency (ADG/dry matter intake). Kaolinite supplementation tended (linear effect, p = 0.08) to increase dietary net energy (NE) during the initial 112-d period. However, the overall (308-d) effect of supplementation dietary NE was not appreciable (p>0.20). However, due to the inertness of kaolinite, itself, the ratio of observed-to-expected dietary NE increased with kaolinite supplementation. This effect was more pronounced (linear effect, p 0.03) during the initial 224 d of the study. Overall (308 d), kaolinite supplementation tended to increase (linear effect, p = 0.07) dietary NE by 3% over expected. Kaolinite supplementation did not affect carcass weight, yield grade, longissimus area, kidney, pelvic and heart fat, and quality grade, but decreased (linear effect, p = 0.01) dressing percentage. It is concluded that kaolinite supplementation up to 2% of diet DM may enhance energetic efficiency of calf-fed Holstein steers in a manner independent of changes in characteristics of ruminal and total tract digestion

The impact of population ageing on the labour force participation rate in Spain

Rationale Population ageing is one of the greatest structural challenges facing the Spanish economy. Foremost among its multiple effects is its contractionary impact on labour supply, which will foreseeably have major implications on both the functioning of the labour market and the potential growth or sustainability of public finances. Takeaways •Population ageing over the past decade has had an estimated negative impact of around 3.4 percentage points (pp) on Spain’s participation rate in 2022. This impact has been uneven by regions, with a sharper fall in the Cantabrian regions (Asturias, Cantabria and the Basque Country). •According to the latest National Statistics Institute’s population projections, the participation rate is set to drop a further 2.8 pp by 2030 owing to the continuing ageing process. Excluding the support of net immigration flows, the drop would be 1.6 pp greater. •In addition, the impact of ageing may deepen regional divergences, since the regions that have an older population and lower GDP per capita may be expected to experience the sharpest falls in the participation rate

El impacto del envejecimiento poblacional sobre la evolución de la tasa de actividad en España

Motivación El proceso de envejecimiento poblacional supone uno de los mayores retos estructurales que afronta la economía española. Entre sus múltiples efectos, cabe destacar el impacto contractivo sobre la oferta de trabajo, que, previsiblemente, tendrá importantes repercusiones tanto sobre el funcionamiento del mercado de trabajo como sobre el crecimiento potencial o la sostenibilidad de las finanzas públicas. Ideas principales •El envejecimiento poblacional experimentado durante la última década habría tenido un impacto negativo de unos 3,4 puntos porcentuales (pp) sobre el nivel de la tasa de actividad en 2022 en España. Este impacto habría sido heterogéneo por regiones, con una caída más intensa en las regiones del Cantábrico. •De acuerdo con las últimas proyecciones poblacionales del Instituto Nacional de Estadística, la tasa de actividad caería, debido a la continuación del proceso de envejecimiento, 2,8 pp adicionales hasta 2030. Creación de Proceso de Remanufactura para Renovación de Bomba Electro-Hidráulica EHPS

The need to expand the range of products offered in an automotive remanufacturing company, forces the creation of a process for the renovation and introduction to the market of electro-hydraulic units, this hand in hand with the fact that the company's competition is already distributing this kind of units. Being an unknown and hybrid product (hydraulic and electronic), it is necessary to bring together work teams from different plants of the company specialized in both branches. Applying knowledge of existing processes in the company and the methodology of advanced quality planning (APQP) allows the design, creation and validation of product and process. We will thoroughly analyze the structure of the product and its component parts. As part of the requirements, the process must comply with a production of 15 units per day, so tools such as time and takt time will be used in order to compare and check if the process is able to meet the established production levels.La necesidad de ampliar la gama de productos ofrecidos en una empresa de re manufactura automotriz, obliga a la creación de un proceso para la renovación e introducción al mercado de unidades electro-hidráulicas, esto de la mano que la competencia de la empresa ya se encuentra distribuyendo esta clase de unidades. In Silico Screening of Drugs That Target Different Forms of E Protein for Potential Treatment of COVID-19

Recently the E protein of SARS-CoV-2 has become a very important target in the potential treatment of COVID-19 since it is known to regulate different stages of the viral cycle. There is biochemical evidence that E protein exists in two forms, as monomer and homopentamer. An in silico screening analysis was carried out employing 5852 ligands (from Zinc databases), and performing an ADMET analysis, remaining a set of 2155 compounds. Furthermore, docking analysis was performed on specific sites and different forms of the E protein. From this study we could identify that the following ligands showed the highest binding affinity: nilotinib, dutasteride, irinotecan, saquinavir and alectinib. We carried out some molecular dynamics simulations and free energy MM–PBSA calculations of the protein–ligand complexes (with the mentioned ligands). Of worthy interest is that saquinavir, nilotinib and alectinib are also considered as a promising multitarget ligand because it seems to inhibit three targets, which play an important role in the viral cycle. On the other side, saquinavir was shown to be able to bind to E protein both in its monomeric as well as pentameric forms. Finally, further experimental assays are needed to probe our hypothesis derived from in silico studies
