German and Israeli Innovation: The Best of Two Worlds
This study reviews – through desk research and expert interviews with Mittelstand companies, startups and ecosystem experts – the current status of the Israeli startup ecosystem and the Mittelstand region of North Rhine- Westphalia (NRW), Germany. As a case study, it highlights potential opportunities for collaboration and analyzes different engagement modes that might serve to connect the two regions.
The potential synergies between the two economies are based on a high degree of complementarity. A comparison of NRW’s key verticals and Israel’s primary areas of innovation indicates that there is significant overlap in verticals, such as artificial intelligence (AI), the internet of things (IoT), sensors and cybersecurity. Israeli startups can offer speed, agility and new ideas, while German Mittelstand companies can contribute expertise in production and scaling, access to markets, capital and support. The differences between Mittelstand companies and startups are less pronounced than those between startups and big corporations. However, three current barriers to fruitful collaboration have been identified: 1) a lack of access, 2) a lack of transparency regarding relevant players in the market, and 3) a lack of the internal resources needed to select the right partners, often due to time constraints or a lack of internal expertise on this issue.
To ensure that positive business opportunities ensue, Mittelstand companies and startups alike have to be proactive in their search for cooperation partners and
draw on a range of existing engagement modes (e.g., events, communities, accelerators). The interviews and the research conducted for this study made clear that no single mode of engagement can address all the needs and challenges associated with German-Israeli collaboration
Testing the Color Charge and Mass Dependence of Parton Energy Loss with Heavy-to-light Ratios at RHIC and LHC
The ratio of nuclear modification factors of high-pT heavy-flavored mesons to
light-flavored hadrons (``heavy-to-light ratio'') in nucleus-nucleus collisions
tests the partonic mechanism expected to underlie jet quenching. Heavy-to-light
ratios are mainly sensitive to the mass and color-charge dependences of
medium-induced parton energy loss. Here, we assess the potential for
identifying these two effects in D and B meson production at RHIC and at the
LHC. To this end, we supplement the perturbative QCD factorized formalism for
leading hadron production with radiative parton energy loss. For D meson
spectra at high but experimentally accessible transverse momentum (10 < pT < 20
GeV) in Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC, we find that charm quarks behave
essentially like light quarks. However, since light-flavored hadron yields are
dominated by gluon parents, the heavy-to-light ratio of D mesons is a sensitive
probe of the color charge dependence of parton energy loss. In contrast, due to
the larger b quark mass, the medium modification of B mesons in the same
kinematical regime provides a sensitive test of the mass dependence of parton
energy loss. At RHIC energies, the strategies for identifying and disentangling
the color charge and mass dependence of parton energy loss are more involved
because of the smaller kinematical range accessible. We argue that at RHIC, the
kinematical regime best suited for such an analysis of D mesons is 7 < pT < 12
GeV, whereas the study of lower transverse momenta is further complicated due
to the known dominant contribution of additional, particle species dependent,
non-perturbative effects.Comment: 21 pages RevTex, 9 Figure
Heavy-ion physics studies for the Future Circular Collider
The Future Circular Collider (FCC) design study is aimed at assessing the
physics potential and the technical feasibility of a new collider with
centre-of-mass energies, in the hadron-hadron collision mode including proton
and nucleus beams, more than seven-times larger than the nominal LHC energies.
An electron-positron collider in the same tunnel is also considered as an
intermediate step, which would provide the electron-hadron option in the long
term. First ideas on the physics opportunities with heavy ions at the FCC are
presented, covering the physics of Quark-Gluon Plasma, gluon saturation,
photon-induced collisions, as well as connections with ultra-high-energy cosmic
rays.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, proceedings of Quark Matter 2014, Darmstadt,

The objective was to develop a cookie formulation by partially substituting wheat flour with banana flour, achieving a greater nutritional content than a 100% wheat flour cookie. A mixture-process experimental design was used to evaluate, using the response surface methodology (RSM), the effect of the flour mixture (25%, 50% and 75% of flour substitution), the grease content (from 46% to 54%) and the water content (from 25% to 37.5%). A desirability function was used to determine an optimal level of grease (46.24%) and water (30.67%). Three formulations with an equal desirability level were evaluated sensorially, this led to the conclusion that formulations with 25% and 50% of flour substitution had no significant difference, so, in order to maximize the use of banana flour, the 50% flour substitution formulation was determined to be optimal. This last formulation and a 100% wheat flour formulation were chemically analyzed to determine their proximal composition and to observe the effects of the flour substitution. The results showed that there is a significant difference between both formulations; the 50% flour substitution formulation had higher contents of fibre and carbohydrates, while the 25% substitution formulation had higher contents of ashes, reducing sugars, and total sugars.
revelan las películas.[Abstract]This research proposes analyses the urban space through contemporary
Iberoamerican cinema. Urban phenomena, typologies of cities and the different
realities happening in the margins, are studied here under the vision of the
filmmakers of the new millenium.
The motivation for this purpose lies in the confirmation that the recent
bibliography on cinema and urban space, barely mentions the Iberoamerican cities
(from Spain, Portugal and Latin America), mainly due to the traditional hegemony
of US, European and Asian productions. Only in the last years, following a new
effervescence of filmmakers arising from the new audiovisual laws –among other
factors-, Iberoamerican filmography starts to be present within the studies of city
and film.
This thesis uses a comparative methodology coming from the History of
Cinema, Urban History and Theory, History of Architecture, Philosophy,
Antropology and Sociology, to analyze the last transformations occurred in the
cities and their limits as appeared in the movies
