    BIBO stabilisation of continuous time takagi sugeno systems under persistent perturbations and input saturation

    [EN] This paper presents a novel approach to the design of fuzzy state feedback controllers for continuous-time non-linear systems with input saturation under persistent perturbations. It is assumed that all the states of the Takagi¿Sugeno (TS) fuzzy model representing a non-linear system are measurable. Such controllers achieve bounded input bounded output (BIBO) stabilisation in closed loop based on the computation of inescapable ellipsoids. These ellipsoids are computed with linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) that guarantee stabilisation with input saturation and persistent perturbations. In particular, two kinds of inescapable ellipsoids are computed when solving a multiobjective optimization problem: the maximum volume inescapable ellipsoids contained inside the validity domain of the TS fuzzy model and the smallest inescapable ellipsoids which guarantee a minimum *-norm (upper bound of the 1-norm) of the perturbed system. For every initial point contained in the maximum volume ellipsoid, the closed loop will enter the minimum *-norm ellipsoid after a finite time, and it will remain inside afterwards.     T-S Fuzzy Bibo Stabilisation of Non-Linear Systems Under Persistent Perturbations Using Fuzzy Lyapunov Functions and Non-PDC Control Laws

    [EN] This paper develops an innovative approach for designing non-parallel distributed fuzzy controllers for continuous-time non-linear systems under persistent perturbations. Non-linear systems are represented using Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy models. These non-PDC controllers guarantee bounded input bounded output stabilisation in closed-loop throughout the computation of generalised inescapable ellipsoids. These controllers are computed with linear matrix inequalities using fuzzy Lyapunov functions and integral delayed Lyapunov functions. LMI conditions developed in this paper provide non-PDC controllers with a minimum *-norm (upper bound of the 1-norm) for the T-S fuzzy system under persistent perturbations. The results presented in this paper can be classified into two categories: local methods based on fuzzy Lyapunov functions with guaranteed bounds on the first derivatives of membership functions and global methods based on integral-delayed Lyapunov functions which are independent of the first derivatives of membership functions.     Factores de riesgo cardiovascular: desde los clásicos hasta los emergentes a la luz de las nuevas evidencias

    Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the main cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, especially affecting the population over 60 years of age, they can manifest depending on their origin in coronary disease (acute myocardial infarction, angina pectoris, sudden cardiac arrest, heart failure and sudden death) and cerebrovascular disease (strokes and transient ischemic events). Several risk factors associated with the development of CVD have been described, the classic factors (modifiable and non-modifiable), and others that have been added to the list as a result of new evidence, such as inflammation, thrombosis, stress, alterations in the levels of natriuretic peptides, heavy metals/environmental pollutants, renal insufficiency, and some infectious agents. The objective of this article is to present the state of the art associated with classic cardiovascular risk factors (CRFs) and the evidence that supports emerging CRFs.  Las enfermedades cardiovasculares (ECV) son la causa principal de morbimortalidad a nivel mundial, afectando especialmente a la población mayor de 60 años, pueden manifestarse según su origen en enfermedad coronaria (infarto agudo de miocardio, angina pectoris, insuficiencia cardiaca, y muerte súbita) y enfermedad cerebrovascular (accidentes cerebrovasculares y eventos isquémicos transitorios). Varios factores de riesgo asociados al desarrollo de las ECV han sido descritos; los factores clásicos (modificables y no modificables), y otros que se han añadido a la lista como producto de las nuevas evidencias como es el caso de la inflamación, trombosis, estrés, alteraciones en los niveles de péptidos natriuréticos, metales pesados/contaminantes ambientales, insuficiencia renal y algunos agentes infecciosos.     Battle of Postdisaster Response and Restoration

    [EN] The paper presents the results of the Battle of Postdisaster Response and Restoration (BPDRR) presented in a special session at the first International water distribution systems analysis & computing and control in the water industry (WDSA/CCWI) Joint Conference, held in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, in July 2018. The BPDRR problem focused on how to respond and restore water service after the occurrence of five earthquake scenarios that cause structural damage in a water distribution system. Participants were required to propose a prioritization schedule to fix the damages of each scenario while following restrictions on visibility/nonvisibility of damages. Each team/approach was evaluated against six performance criteria: (1) time without supply for hospital/firefighting, (2) rapidity of recovery, (3) resilience loss, (4) average time of no user service, (5) number of users without service for eight consecutive hours, and (6) water loss. Three main types of approaches were identified from the submissions: (1) general-purpose metaheuristic algorithms, (2) greedy algorithms, and (3) ranking-based prioritizations. All three approaches showed potential to solve the challenge efficiently. The results of the participants showed that for this network, the impact of a large-diameter pipe failure on the network is more significant than several smaller pipes failures. The location of isolation valves and the size of hydraulic segments influenced the resilience of the system during emergencies. On average, the interruptions to water supply (hospitals and firefighting) varied considerably among solutions and emergency scenarios, highlighting the importance of private water storage for emergencies. The effects of damages and repair work were more noticeable during the peak demand periods (morning and noontime) than during the low-flow periods; and tank storage helped to preserve functionality of the network in the first few hours after a simulated event.     Retrospective evaluation of whole exome and genome mutation calls in 746 cancer samples

    Funder: NCI U24CA211006Abstract: The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC) curated consensus somatic mutation calls using whole exome sequencing (WES) and whole genome sequencing (WGS), respectively. Here, as part of the ICGC/TCGA Pan-Cancer Analysis of Whole Genomes (PCAWG) Consortium, which aggregated whole genome sequencing data from 2,658 cancers across 38 tumour types, we compare WES and WGS side-by-side from 746 TCGA samples, finding that ~80% of mutations overlap in covered exonic regions. We estimate that low variant allele fraction (VAF < 15%) and clonal heterogeneity contribute up to 68% of private WGS mutations and 71% of private WES mutations. We observe that ~30% of private WGS mutations trace to mutations identified by a single variant caller in WES consensus efforts. WGS captures both ~50% more variation in exonic regions and un-observed mutations in loci with variable GC-content. Together, our analysis highlights technological divergences between two reproducible somatic variant detection efforts

    Fuzzy Modeling Framework Using Sector Non-Linearity Techniques for Fixed-Wing Aircrafts

    [EN] This paper presents a mathematical modeling approach utilizing a fuzzy modeling framework for fixed-wing aircraft systems with the goal of creating a highly desirable mathematical representation for model-based control design applications. The starting point is a mathematical model comprising fifteen non-linear ordinary differential equations representing the dynamic and kinematic behavior applicable to a wide range of fixed-wing aircraft systems. Here, the proposed mathematical modeling framework is applied to the AIRBUS A310 model developed by ONERA. The proposed fuzzy modeling framework takes advantage of sector non-linearity red techniques to recast all the non-linear terms from the original model to a set of combined fuzzy rules. The result of this fuzzification is a more suitable mathematical description from the control system design point of view.     El papel de la mujer en el mercado laboral ha evolucionado a lo largo del tiempo, de manera tal que actualmente ocupa posiciones que antes eran reservadas sólo para los hombres y a su vez reclama, cada día más, una mayor participación en la vida social, siendo estos comportamientos y actuaciones diferentes a las que reflejó en el pasado. Hoy por hoy, las empresas se están volviendo cada vez más femeninas pues día a día aumenta el énfasis en las habilidades interpersonales de las mujeres lo cual se constata al contar actualmente con doce de las 500 empresas más importantes del mundo, dirigidas por mujeres (Fortune, 2010). Esta importante participación, busca un equilibrio con la combinación de rasgos masculinos y femeninos en la dirección de los negocios, más allá de propiciar una competencia entre los dos géneros (McCrimmon, citado por Franco, 2010).Tesi
