The Symbolic Narrative of the Body in Murniasih’s Paintings : an Hermeneutical Study

This article is a study on I.G.K Murniasih’s paintings on the perspective of hermeneutics. It focuses on the aspects of symbolic-narrative, i.e. the narrative elements which optimized the potentials of symbols. The study has successfully defined the symbolic narrative in visual works, specifically in Murniasih’s tings. Symbolic narrative in visual works is in line with suggestive narrative in literary works. The symbolic narrative is formed by symbolic elements that are related each other to build a structure and a narrative pattern. In Murniasih’s works the narrative elements are supported by and originated from Murni’s biographical body; the experiencing body. In other words, Murniasih’s paintings are those which tell about the body related to he bio graphical experience. In addition, it is thematically found that the symbolic narrative is around the relationship between men and women in various episodes; the relationship of harmony, domination, ideology, power, and rebellion

JALAN RAYA SEBAGAI DESAIN KEBUDAYAAN

This paper contains a brief analysis of the road, starting from the path to a modern highway. The analysis was performed in the cultural perspective. It means that the road is not seen as merely physical infrastructure of buildings, but how it constructs a network of knowledge and behavior of the cultures in it. Through this brief review, it is noted that the roads in its history experienced the shift function and meaning. For example, the functions of road that used to bring together both physical and nonphysical, but in its development, it actually has the function to work away. HERMENEUTIKA, SEBUAH CARA UNTUK MEMAHAMI TEKS

Hermeneutics is a theory that deals with text interpretation. This theory is commonly used as a method to understand a text although Hermeneutics itself does not explicitly formulate the practical steps to understand a text. Among the theories of interpretation, Hermeneutics has various sub-interpretation theories. In the perspective of Hermeneutics, the initail stage of interpretation involves the objective interpretation of a text before symbolization is made. The message of the text is then related to the other elements of the texts such as the sender of the text, other related disciplines, and socio-cultural aspect of the text. The understanding of a text will eventually be identical with the quality improvement of the interpreter's own self. However, in practice, Hermeneutics can be used to intrepret various texts. This paper will only discusses the text of artistic and literary work. These two different texts will be analyzed by using one of the perspectives of Hermeneutics in a simple and applicable formulation. Judul buku ini, "Bisakah Orang Asia Berpikir", juga bisa ditafsir dari berbagai sudut seperti itu.
