The aim of this study was to determine the fatty acids, sterols and triacylglycerol compositions as well as the amount of tocopherols, total phenols and pigments wild almond and cold pressed wild pistachio oils. Triacylglycerols, tocopherols and pigments were analyzed with HPLC, fatty acids and sterols with gas chromatography, and total phenols photometrically. The main fatty acids in both samples were oleic, linoleic and palmitic acids. The most predominant TAG species are SLL + PLO (21.83%) in wild pistachio oil and OOO (47.27%) in wild almond oil. Pheophytin a was the major pigment in wild pistachio oil. There were no pigments detected in wild almond oil. Total phenols were 57.6 mg kg-1 oil for wild pistachio and 45.3 mg kg-1 oil for wild almond oil.

    Explicit Matrices for Sparse Approximation

We show that girth can be used to certify that sparse compressed sensing matrices have good sparse approximation guarantees. This allows us to present the first deterministic measurement matrix constructions that have an optimal number of measurements for â„“_1/â„“_1 approximation. Our techniques are coding theoretic and rely on a recent connection of compressed sensing to LP relaxations for channel decoding

An unusual stroke-like clinical presentation of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease: acute vestibular syndrome

INTRODUCTION Vertigo and dizziness are common neurological symptoms in general practice. Most patients have benign peripheral vestibular disorders, but some have dangerous central causes. Recent research has shown that bedside oculomotor examinations accurately discriminate central from peripheral lesions in those with new, acute, continuous vertigo/dizziness with nausea/vomiting, gait unsteadiness, and nystagmus, known as the acute vestibular syndrome. CASE REPORT A 56-year-old man presented to the emergency department with acute vestibular syndrome for 1 week. The patient had no focal neurological symptoms or signs. The presence of direction-fixed, horizontal nystagmus suppressed by visual fixation without vertical ocular misalignment (skew deviation) was consistent with an acute peripheral vestibulopathy, but bilaterally normal vestibuloocular reflexes, confirmed by quantitative horizontal head impulse testing, strongly indicated a central localization. Because of a long delay in care, the patient left the emergency department without treatment. He returned 1 week later with progressive gait disturbance, limb ataxia, myoclonus, and new cognitive deficits. His subsequent course included a rapid neurological decline culminating in home hospice placement and death within 1 month. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed restricted diffusion involving the basal ganglia and cerebral cortex. Spinal fluid 14-3-3 protein was elevated. The rapidly progressive clinical course with dementia, ataxia, and myoclonus plus corroborative neuroimaging and spinal fluid findings confirmed a clinicoradiographic diagnosis of Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease. CONCLUSIONS To our knowledge, this is the first report of an initial presentation of Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease closely mimicking vestibular neuritis, expanding the known clinical spectrum of prion disease presentations. Despite the initial absence of neurological signs, the central lesion location was differentiated from a benign peripheral vestibulopathy at the first visit using simple bedside vestibular tests. Familiarity with these tests could help providers prevent initial misdiagnosis of important central disorders in patients presenting vertigo or dizziness

Attenuation of haloperidol induced orofacial dyskinesia by ginkgo biloba extract

Introduction: Tardive dyskinesia is one of the major side effects of long-term neuroleptic treatment. Increased reactive oxygen species and oxidative stress has been proposed as possible etiopathologic mechanisms. Ginkgo biloba extract (EGB) is a natural antioxidant. We investigated the effects of ginkgo biloba extract on neuroleptic-induced orofacial dyskinesia in rats, a potential animal model for tardive dyskinesia. Methods: Orofacial dyskinesia was induced by chronic administration of haloperidol (1 mg/kg i.p) for a period of 21 days. On 22nd day, animals were assessed for development of oral dyskinesia. Malon di aldehyde (MDA), glutathione (GSH), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase levels were evaluated in animal forebrain homogenate. Results: Chronic haloperidol (1 mg/kg) treatment significantly increased the vacuous chewing movement’s frequency, increased MDA and decreased SOD and catalase levels. Co-administration of EGB 25 mg/kg along with haloperidol suppressed the haloperidol induced vacuous chewing movements (Pvalue < 0.05). EGB 100 mg/kg reversed haloperidol induced reduction in SOD level. It also reversed the increment in MDA level observed in haloperidol treated rats. Conclusion: The present study suggested that oxidative stress plays a significant role in neuroleptic-induced orofacial dyskinesia and EGB co-administration reverses these behavioral and biochemical changes.Declaration Interest: None

Preparation of Ionic Liquid-Silica Nanoparticles Nanocomposite Film Coated Porous Copper Wire for SolidPhase Microextraction of Pesticides from Tomato Samples

In this study, a new solid phase micro extraction (SPME)fiber coated by sol-gel technology based on polyethyleneglycol (PEG) grafted ionic liquids (ILs), and silicananoparticles (silica NPs) on a porous copper substratewas fabricated. The as-prepared fiber (PEG-ILs-silicaNPs) was then used to extract a variety of pesticides intomato samples before prior to their gas chromatographyflame ionization detection (GC-FID). The key parametersinfluencing extraction efficiency containing includingextraction time, stirring rate, extraction temperature, pH,ionic strength, and desorption temperature, and time wereinvestigated and optimized. The relative standarddeviations (RSDs) for single fiber repeatability rangedfrom 1.2 to 4.6% (n=6), and the RSDs for fiber-to-fiberreproducibility (n=6) were 3.3–6.8%, respectively. Theproposed method based on the PEG-ILs-silica NPs fiberwas successfully applied for the determination of targetedpesticides in tomato samples with good recoveries from89.8 to 103.5% (RSDs=2.1-6.9)
