Violencia simbólica experimentada por las mujeres transgénero de Bogotá y Medellín (2005-2013): el lugar de lo abyecto en el orden social

    Get PDF
This article aims to analyze the symbolic violence lived by the transgender women from Bogotá and Medellín in recent times. In this sense, the main purpose is to explain how certain discourse systems marginalize transgender women in the social order. That is why the thesis of this article is that the symbolic violence has been a key element for the body and subject configuration of the transgender women in a position of abjection. Therefore, the sources for this investigation were, on one hand, theoretical, specifically of a feminist kind; and, on the other, practical, through the development of in-depth interviews in order to get to a better understanding of the circumstances surrounding the transgender women

Relationship between perception of quality and millennials satisfaction: the gender moderating role

The objective of this research was to find out if gender acts as a moderating role in the relationship between the perception of quality and the satisfaction of the service provided to Millennials as clients of banking sector. It also aimed to identify the most important attributes of service quality that can be used to assess the characteristics of the quality of banking service according to customer perception. A correlational research with a quantitative approach was designed, where the population corresponded to people who were born between 1980 and 1999 in the cities of Lima, Arequipa, Trujillo, Chiclayo, and Piura, and who are clients of the four most important banks in Peru ( i.e., BCP; BBVA, Interbank, and Scotiabank) and that have had at least one financial product for a period of not less than two years. The sample used, from 480 clients, was selected at random. The instrument used was SERVQUAL questionnaire (Parasuraman et al., 1985). The results were analyzed using SPSS software and hypothesis testing were applied. Thus, it was concluded that there is a direct and positive relationship between each of the dimensions of perceived quality and the level of satisfaction with the service that banks provide to Millennials. Furthermore, it was concluded that gender does not have a moderating role in expectations, in perceived quality, or in satisfaction with the perceived quality of service.Tesi

Responses of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) plants to iron deficiency in the root zone

Iron deficiency induces a yellowing in the aerial part of plants, known as iron chlorosis, and reduces the growth, yield, and quality of the fruits. Understanding plant response to iron deficiency is essential for agronomic management. This study decoded the temporal response of tomato plants (Solanum lycopersicum L.) to iron deficiency by quantifying different vegetative parameters. Subapical root swelling in the first 2.0 mm and several shoot and root growth parameters were measured in plants grown in a nutrient solution with and without Fe, on different dates designated as days after transplantation (DAT). Correlations between the total chlorophyll concentration in young leaves and 22 morphological and physiological parameters were also calculated. The plants grown in the absence of Fe had a higher number of secondary roots at 3 DAT, compared to control plants. On the same date, subapical root swelling was also observed, particularly at 1.5 and 2.0 mm from the root tip. Those plants also had a lower chlorophyll content in young leaves and a higher ferric-chelate reductase activity (FCR; EC 1.16.1.17) in the roots. At 9 DAT, the overall vegetative performance (plant height, fresh weight of stems and leaves) was negatively affected. At the end of the experiment (14 DAT), significant correlations were found between chlorophyll and the studied parameters. In conclusion, tomato plants experienced a cascade of responses to Fe deficiency throughout nine days: firstly, root lateralization increased; later, root swelling was observed, and a decrease in leaf chlorophyll content was registered associated with an increase in root FCR. At the end, the biomass of tomato plants decreased.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Influence of organic matter and CO2 supply on bioremediation of heavy metals by Chlorella vulgaris and Scenedesmus almeriensis in a multimetallic matrix

Producción CientíficaThis research evaluated the influence of organic matter (OM) and CO2 addition on the bioremediation potential of two microalgae typically used for wastewater treatment: Chlorella vulgaris (CV) and Scenedesmus almeriensis (SA). The heavy metal (HM) removal efficiencies and biosorption capacities of both microalgae were determined in multimetallic solutions (As, B, Cu, Mn, and Zn) mimicking the highest pollutant conditions found in the Loa river (Northern Chile). The presence of OM decreased the total biosorption capacity, specially in As (from 2.2 to 0.0 mg/g for CV and from 2.3 to 1.7 mg/g for SA) and Cu (from 3.2 to 2.3 mg/g for CV and from 2.1 to 1.6 mg/g for SA), but its influence declined over time. CO2 addition decreased the total HM biosorption capacity for both microalgae species and inhibited CV growth. Finally, metal recovery using different eluents (HCl, NaOH, and CaCl2) was evaluated at two different concentrations. HCl 0.1 M provided the highest recovery efficiencies, which supported values over 85% of As, 92% of Cu, and ≈100% of Mn and Zn from SA. The presence of OM during the loaded stage resulted in a complete recovery of As, Cu, Mn, and Zn when using HCl 0.1 M as eluent.Gobierno regional de Castilla y León (UIC 071, CLU 2017-09 and VA080G18)Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades (project CTQ2017-84006-C3-1-R)Unión Europea - FEDER (CLU 2017-09 and CTQ2017-84006-C3-1-R

The Case Against Template Informed Consent Procedures in Biomedical Research: Heterogeneity in health Literacy in Chile

Health literacy was examined in Chile to assess whether it is homogenous enough to allow the use of "templates" for informed consent, and to identity subgroups that may need special consideration when recruited for research because of their low health literacy abbreviated SAHLSA test of health literacy was used. Results were expressed as percent of correct answers out of the 50 items of the SAHLSA test. There was high health literacy with 85.4 ± 13.5 % (arithmetic mean ± standard deviation, «=762) of correct answers. There were important differences between groups, with lower scores in artisanal fishermen families and high-school students attending public schools, and higher scores in university students and mothers attending the public health system. Results show that a case by case approach is probably more appropriate when seeking informed consent in this population because of the variability of health literacy.http://ref.scielo.org/nb426

Novel pathway for corrinoid compounds production in lactobacillus

    Get PDF
Vitamin B12 or cobalamin is an essential metabolite for humans, which makes it an interesting compound for many research groups that focus in different producer-strains synthesis pathways. In this work, we report the influence of key intermediaries for cobalamin synthesis added to the culture medium in two Lactobacillus (L.) strains, L. reuteri CRL 1098 and L. coryniformis CRL 1001. Here, we report that addition of Co2+ and 5,6-dimethylbenzimidazole increased the corrinoid compounds production in both strains while addition of L-threonine increased only the corrinoid compounds production by CRL 1001 strain. Then, we purified and characterized by LC-MS the corrinoid compounds obtained. Physiological studies besides in silico analysis revealed that L. reuteri CRL 1098 and L. coryniformis CRL 1001 follow different pathways for the last steps of the corrinoid compounds synthesis.Fil: Torres, Andrea Carolina.
