intercultural aplicables a estudiantes nacionales y migrantes no hispanohablante
In the context of the progressive increase of foreigners in public schools in Chile and the recent changes in migratory patterns, the presence of students who do not master the working language of the educational system has systematically incremented in recent years. In a scenario marked by the absence of educational policies that respond to this new linguistic diversity, the purpose of our research was to understand how schools have responded to the arrival of foreign students and what educational practices they have implemented to tackle this challenge. Through a two-year school ethnography in four public schools with high enrollment of foreigners, institutional documents were analyzed and field observation, interviews and focus groups were conducted with different actors amidst the educational communities. Through an analysis of thematic content, the results reveal the implementation of ten devices to manage educational responses to foreign students. We have analyzed three of these devices with a focus on linguistics based on the tensions and contradictions that occur within the educational institutions of which they are part, identifying significant elements and dimensions to drive forward expansive learning. Finally, we discuss these findings in light of the advances and challenges of the intercultural approach in our Latin American region.https://www.scielo.br/j/ep/a/NhL67jbv7H7VpZtQYjtHVFt/?lang=e
Developing Intercultural Communicative Competence in an Haitian Creole language acquisition program in Chile
This article aims to describe the results of a Haitian Creole language acquisition program, looking to foster intercultural communicative competence among Chilean officers, and favor migrant inclusion. The program, based on the intercultural communicative competence, had a duration of 50 hours, beginning with three sessions that present what the migration process means, the country of origin of the migrants, delivered by migrants, who then become linguistic mediators, and several linguistic aspects of Spanish and Haitian Creole languages. Data on the results of the program were collected through an interview and a language skills test, administered to the participants, to officers from the Investigation Police, and to health care practitioners, at the end of its implementation. The results show that the program favors the link between individuals from different cultural backgrounds, since it relies upon the exchange of participants having equally valued knowledge, and promotes the participation of learners in managing their learning and anticipating the context they will face. This facilitates the inclusion of migrant people, speaking a different language from that of the host society, which gives them a greater likelihood to successfully insert themselves in labor, educational and cultural settings
The language diversity found in societies is a differentiating feature between cultures and a means of social integration. Programa de integración lingüística y cultural: Migración no hispanoparlante
Abstract: Chile, despite having a migration history, has not generated educational programs supported by government policies that encourage the acquisition of the linguistic variety of the host society, by non-Spanish-speaking immigration community, integrating the cultural referents of both collectives. It is suggested an option to this historical oblivion and we consider the following: What elements should be integrated into a program for acquiring the linguistic variety of the host society focused to Haitian immigrants fostering the cultural recognition? It is presented the design and implementation of a program that adopts the Linguistic Interdependence Hypothesis in a dynamic classroom working in a collaborative and situated way. As a conclusion, it is possible to educate in a second language from a program that incorporates elements that promote the interrelation of all participants in equality of knowledge, as well as the use of participants’ linguistic codes as a manifestation of respect and interest for what each participant can contribute from his/her L1, revealing their culture of origin.
