The measuring of Ca2+, Mg2+, K+ has been carried out. This quantity determination had two purposes. It allows us, on the one hand, to show that the assimilation rate of the studied mineral elements and the synthesis of the dry matter are in relation with the composition of the plant organs. On the other hand, to analyse the Na+/ NH4 + antagonism in constantly keeping the concentration of each anion and cation. Within the adjusted saline water T1C, T2C, T3C changing the proportion of NH4 + from 15% to 25% in the total mineral nitrogen of the modified saline solution T1 mod, T2mod, T3, mod. At the level of the two studied species, tomato and bean, the K+ is very abundant with regard to the cations Ca2+, Mg2+, and Na+ probably due to the weak capacity of the cationic root exchange of these plants. The roots of the tomato plants are less loaded with Na+ than the aerial parts. However, the bean stores much more Na+ at the level of the roots, which migrate with difficulty to the aerial parts [2]

Efficiency improvement of LDO ouput based linear regulator with supercapacitor energy recovery - a versatile new technique with an example of a 5v to 1.5 v version

Supercapacitors are used in various industrial applications and the supercapacitors technology is gradually progressing into a mature state. Common applications of supercapacitors are in electric vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and in portable devices such as cellular phones and laptops. The capacitance values range from fractional Farads to few thousand Farads and their continuos DC voltage ratings are from 2V to 6V. At University of Waikato, a team works on using supercapacitors for improving the efficiency of linear voltage regulators. In particular, this patented technique aims at combining off the shelfs LDO ICs and a supercapacitor array for improving end to end efficiency of linear regulator. My work is aimed at developing the theoretical background and designing prototype circuitry for a voltage regulator for the case of unregulated input supply is more than 3 times of the minimum input voltage requirement of the LDO which is applicable for a 5V to 1.5V regulator. Experimental results are indicated with future suggestions for improvement

Background: Many plants are a rich source of secondary metabolites with potential antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. Amongst the customary plant herbs used as a phytomedicine in Hail province, which has been selected for the current study, Kehail plant, Arnebia decumbens (A. decumbens). Therefore, this study sought to assess the antimicrobial and antioxidant activities against high-risk bacteria and yeasts. Methods: The cup plate agar diffusion methods and Microdilution assays were adopted with minor modifications to assess the antibacterial activity. The Qualitative and quantitative tests were employed to assess the Kehail antioxidant activities by determining its phytochemicals, 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), ABTS(2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid), and β-carotene in vitro assays. Results: The results indicated that methanolic Kehail extract (M.K.E.) exhibited antibacterial activity against pathogenic bacteria, including Staphylococcus epidermidis (M13), Enterobacter cloacae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli ATCC 10536 and Klebsiella pneumoniae, while the mean inhibition zone was 10.66 ± 0.57 mm, 10.77 ± 0.57735 mm, 10.33 ± 0.57 mm, and 9.55 ± 0.57 mm, respectively. Furthermore, the antimicrobial activity increased in a concentration-dependent manner. Indeed, E. cloacae were the plant extract most inhibited bacteria. The plant extract has vigorous antifungal activity against Candida albicans ATCC 10231 and C. tropicalis ATCC 9362, whereas the mean inhibition zone was 12.77 ± 0.57 and 13.11 ± 1.52 mm, respectively. The extract of A. decumbens plant was also proven to be efficient as a source of antioxidants saponins, terpenes, polyphenols, and flavonoids. Conclusion: The acquired outcomes uncover promising antioxidant activities of the tested Kehail methanolic extract. The study encourages the separation of active components and the development of new medications from the Kehail plant. Keywords: Arnebia decumbens; Methanolic extract; Disk diffusion assay; Microdilution assay; Antioxidant activities

Vortex phase transition and superconducting properties of organic quasi-two-dimensional k-(BEDT-TTF) 2 Cu[N(CN) 2 ]Br

International audienceWe report investigations of the low temperature dc susceptibility and the magnetization on the layered organic superconductor κ-(BEDT-TTF)2Cu[N(CN)2]Br near 80K and the effect of disorder on the superconducting transition temperature Tc. The shielding effect (S) and the critical current density Jc were studied (with H parallel to the c axis of the crystal). Jc can be estimated by analysis of magnetic hysteresis measurement using the Bean model. For each temperature value, we observed two regimes in the critical current density Jc(H). This result implies that there exists a first-order phase transition in the vortex system in this organic superconductor. Our results show that the magnetic properties of these compounds depend strongly on the cooling rate. The structural transformation which occurs at the vicinity of 80K very strongly influences the physics of vortex lattice and the associated magnetic behavior

Macromolecular crowding modulates folding mechanism of alpha/beta protein apoflavodoxin

Protein dynamics in cells may be different from that in dilute solutions in vitro since the environment in cells is highly concentrated with other macromolecules. This volume exclusion due to macromolecular crowding is predicted to affect both equilibrium and kinetic processes involving protein conformational changes. To quantify macromolecular crowding effects on protein folding mechanisms, here we have investigated the folding energy landscape of an alpha/beta protein, apoflavodoxin, in the presence of inert macromolecular crowding agents using in silico and in vitro approaches. By coarse-grained molecular simulations and topology-based potential interactions, we probed the effects of increased volume fraction of crowding agents (phi_c) as well as of crowding agent geometry (sphere or spherocylinder) at high phi_c. Parallel kinetic folding experiments with purified Desulfovibro desulfuricans apoflavodoxin in vitro were performed in the presence of Ficoll (sphere) and Dextran (spherocylinder) synthetic crowding agents. In conclusion, we have identified in silico crowding conditions that best enhance protein stability and discovered that upon manipulation of the crowding conditions, folding routes experiencing topological frustrations can be either enhanced or relieved. The test-tube experiments confirmed that apoflavodoxin's time-resolved folding path is modulated by crowding agent geometry. We propose that macromolecular crowding effects may be a tool for manipulation of protein folding and function in living cells.Comment: to appear in Biophysical Journal (2009). to appear in Biophysical Journal (2009
