Further distribution of Gertrudielle validinervis (Herz.) Broth. in the Neotropics
Gertrudiella validinervis (Herz.) Broth. is additionally recorded for the dry forests in northwestern Argentina. Complete distribution in the Neotropics, including northwestern Argentina, are shown on the maps
Rauiella niveo-calycina es un sinónimo nuevo de R. praelonga
Rauiella niveo-calycina (Müll. Hal) Wijk & Marg. is proposed as a new synonym of R. praelonga (Schimp. ex Besch) Wijk & Marg. The species treated is discussed briefly.Rauiella niveo-calycina es un sinónimo nuevo de R. praelonga. R. niveo-calycina (Müll. Sobre la presencia de Pyrrhobryum spiniforme (Rhizogoniaceae) en el noroeste de Argentina
The genus Pyrrhobryum is represented by 2 species in Argentina: P. mnioides (Hook.) Manuel and P. spiniforme (Hedw.) Mitt. Pyrrhobryum mnioides is known from Tierra del Fuego to RÃo Negro and P. spiniforme from northeastern Argentina, in Misiones. The latter is recorded for the first time from northwestern Argentina. Ecological notes and specific macroscopic characters are included. A key for the identification of Argentinian species of Pyrrhobryum is provided
Antibiotic prescribing on two medical wards at St Luke’s Hospital : what scope for improvement?
Antibiotics are frequently prescribed drugs and form a significant part of the hospital budget. The literature suggests that prescribing is not without problems and may need constant review. We have no data relating to our hospital. This study aims to explore some aspects of antibiotic use in our setting. Records of all patients prescribed antibiotics on two medical wards over a 4 month period were analysed for indication, choice of antibiotic, outcome and cost. There were 126 patients: 54% males; 75.4%, >60 years old; 62% were admitted because of infection. Of the whole group, 8.7% received antibiotics with no evidence of infection and no indication for prophylaxis. There were 118 infections, 64% respiratory, 13.5% urinary and the rest of miscellaneous sites; 14% of infections were nosocomial. Microbiological studies were available in only 29% of infections. For 6 patients, the antibiotics prescribed were relatively contraindicated because of impaired hepatic and renal function. There was one adverse drug reaction. The total drug cost was Lm2181.79; i.v. treatment accounted for 93% of this cost and ceftazidime for 60%. There is room for improvement in the selection of antibiotics and their route of administration. The hospital microbiologists and the Antibiotic Policy should be consulted more often. Laboratory diagnosis of infection and biochemical patient monitoring are inadequate. Restricting i.v. treatment could reduce cost very substantially.peer-reviewe
Positive Self-care Yields Caring Healers (PSYCH): A Positive-Psychology-Based, Peer-Supported Self-care Series for Therapist Wellbeing
Therapist self-care is mandated by counseling and psychological associations’ codes of ethics in order to maintain professional competencies. Current emphasis in therapist self-care is primarily negatively oriented, with a focus on mitigating, ameliorating, and preventing negative outcomes, including negligence and other negative professional behaviors, which are associated with stress, distress, and burnout. Also, most recommendations are solitary endeavors, which can contribute to and exacerbate therapist isolation, and are not promoted within a structured or focused program. Evidence-based interventions derived from the study of positive psychology, a strengths-based approach to cultivating wellbeing, have the potential to fill these unmet needs in therapist self-care. PSYCH is a formalized seven-component program of positive-psychology-based activities that incorporates positive-psychology interventions and is designed to be engaged within a facilitator-led, peer-supported group environment. The goal of this self-care program is to cultivate flourishing, thriving, and enhanced wellbeing in order that the therapist can sustain the personal and professional vitality necessary for his/her life-giving work

Designing a neutral elliptic inhomogeneity in the case of a general non-uniform loading
AbstractWe derive a general expression for an interface parameter which makes possible the design of a neutral elliptic inhomogeneity when the stress field in the surrounding matrix is a polynomial function of nth order and the composite is subjected to antiplane shear deformations
Geometry from divergence functions and complex structures
Motivated by the geometrical structures of quantum mechanics, we introduce an
almost-complex structure on the product of any parallelizable
statistical manifold . Then, we use to extract a pre-symplectic form and
a metric-like tensor on from a divergence function. These tensors
may be pulled back to , and we compute them in the case of an N-dimensional
symplex with respect to the Kullback-Leibler relative entropy, and in the case
of (a suitable unfolding space of) the manifold of faithful density operators
with respect to the von Neumann-Umegaki relative entropy.Comment: 19 pages, comments are welcome
Covariant Variational Evolution and Jacobi Brackets: Fields
The analysis of the covariant brackets on the space of functions on the
solutions to a variational problem in the framework of contact geometry
initiated in the companion letter Ref.19 is extended to the case of the
multisymplectic formulation of the free Klein-Gordon theory and of the free
Schr\"{o}dinger equation.Comment: 16 page
Sobre el género Streptopogon (Pottiaceae, Musci) en Argentina subtropical
Four species of Streptopogon are new to Argentina. The Bolivian S. heterophyllus, the only species previously registered is excluded from the Argentinian flora, and a major range extension of the Mexican S. matudianus is presented. Treatment of all four taxa includes descriptions, illustrations and SEM micrographs of sporophytic characters
