Broth. is additionally recorded for the dry forests innorthwestern Argentina. Complete distribution in the Neotropics, including northwestern Argentina,are shown on the maps.The monotypic genus Gertrudiella, ofNeotropical distribution, is found, according tothe biogeographic scheme of Morrone (2002),in the phytogeographic province of Chaco of theChaqueña Subregion in Argentina and Bolivia(map A). After recording Gertrudiellavalidinervis for the Chaqueño Serrano forests inthe province of Tucumán - Argentina (Schiavone& Suárez, 2003), the area of study was extendedto the dry forests of the north of Argentina (years2002-2003). As a result of this research it hasbeen verified that G. validinervis is a frequentspecies, not only in the Chaqueño Serrano forestsof the province of Tucumán, but also in theChaqueño forests of the provinces of Jujuy, Saltaand Santiago del Estero (map B). Accordig toMatteri (2003), G. validinervis is the first mossrecord for Santiago del Estero.Considering the strong affinity in climate andvegetation between the Chaqueña Subregion ofArgentina and western zones of Paraguay andsouthwest of Brasil, it can be assumed that G.validinervis is probably distributed in the latterregions as well.Specim.
