Generation of two-mode nonclassical states and a quantum phase gate operation in trapped ion cavity QED
We propose a scheme to generate nonclassical states of a quantum system,
which is composed of the one-dimensional trapped ion motion and a single cavity
field mode. We show that two-mode SU(2) Schr\"odinger-cat states, entangled
coherent states, two-mode squeezed vacuum states and their superposition can be
generated. If the vibration mode and the cavity mode are used to represent
separately a qubit, a quantum phase gate can be implemented.Comment: to appear in PR
Generation of arbitrary two dimensional motional state of a trapped ion
We present a scheme to generate an arbitrary two-dimensional quantum state of
motion of a trapped ion. This proposal is based on a sequence of laser pulses,
which are tuned appropriately to control transitions on the sidebands of two
modes of vibration. Not more than laser pulses are needed to
generate a pure state with upper phonon number and in the and

Electron-Phonon Dynamics in an Ensemble of Nearly Isolated Nanoparticles
We investigate the electron population dynamics in an ensemble of nearly
isolated insulating nanoparticles, each nanoparticle modeled as an electronic
two-level system coupled to a single vibrational mode. We find that at short
times the ensemble-averaged excited-state population oscillates but has a
decaying envelope. At long times, the oscillations become purely sinusoidal
about a ``plateau'' population, with a frequency determined by the
electron-phonon interaction strength, and with an envelope that decays
algebraically as t^-{1/2} We use this theory to predict electron-phonon
dynamics in an ensemble of Y_2 O_3 nanoparticles.Comment: 11 pages, 3 figure
Industrial Robot Programming and UPnP Services Orchestration for the Automation of Factories
The integration of equipment and other devices built into industrial robot cells with modern Ethernet interface technologies and low‐cost mass produced devices
(such as vision systems, laser scanners, force torque‐sensors, PLCs and PDAs etc.) enables integrators to offer more powerful and smarter solutions. Nevertheless, the
programming of all these devices efficiently requires very specific knowledge about them, such as their hardware architectures and specific programming languages as well as details about the system¿s low level communication protocols.
To address these issues, this paper describes and analyses the Plug‐and‐Play architecture. This is one of the most interesting service‐oriented architectures (SOAs)
available, which exhibits characteristics that are well adapted to industrial robotics cells. To validate their programming features and applicability, a test bed was
specially designed. This provides a new graphical service orchestration which was implemented using Workflow Foundation 4 of .NET. The obtained results allowed us to

Filtering and Tracking with Trinion-Valued Adaptive Algorithms
A new model for three-dimensional processes based on the trinion algebra is introduced for the first time. Compared
with the pure quaternion model, the trinion model is more compact and computationally more efficient, while having similar or
comparable performance in terms of adaptive linear filtering. Moreover, the trinion model can effectively represent the general
relationship of state evolution in Kalman filtering, where the pure quaternion model fails. Simulations on real-world wind
recordings and synthetic data sets are provided to demonstrate the potentials of this new modeling method
Black Hole Spin via Continuum Fitting and the Role of Spin in Powering Transient Jets
The spins of ten stellar black holes have been measured using the
continuum-fitting method. These black holes are located in two distinct classes
of X-ray binary systems, one that is persistently X-ray bright and another that
is transient. Both the persistent and transient black holes remain for long
periods in a state where their spectra are dominated by a thermal accretion
disk component. The spin of a black hole of known mass and distance can be
measured by fitting this thermal continuum spectrum to the thin-disk model of
Novikov and Thorne; the key fit parameter is the radius of the inner edge of
the black hole's accretion disk. Strong observational and theoretical evidence
links the inner-disk radius to the radius of the innermost stable circular
orbit, which is trivially related to the dimensionless spin parameter a_* of
the black hole (|a_*| < 1). The ten spins that have so far been measured by
this continuum-fitting method range widely from a_* \approx 0 to a_* > 0.95.
The robustness of the method is demonstrated by the dozens or hundreds of
independent and consistent measurements of spin that have been obtained for
several black holes, and through careful consideration of many sources of
systematic error. Among the results discussed is a dichotomy between the
transient and persistent black holes; the latter have higher spins and larger
masses. Also discussed is recently discovered evidence in the transient sources

D-concurrence bounds for pair coherent states
The pair coherent state is a state of a two-mode radiation field which is
known as a state with non-Gaussian wave function. In this paper, the upper and
lower bounds for D-concurrence (a new entanglement measure) have been studied
