Vascular endothelial growth factor inhibitors in the treatment of ovarian cancer

    Get PDF
Angiogenesis plays a large role in the development and spread of a number of tumors particularly in the presence of female reproductive system neoplasms. The high expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) was found in both the primary tumor and metasta- ses and ascitic fluid in ovarian cancer (OC). Thus, the use of VEGF blockers may be effective in the treatment of OC. The most studied drug used to treat this nosological entity is bevacizumab, the high efficacy of which has been confirmed even when used as monotherapy in the patients who have received treatment many times

Phase distortions of attosecond pulses produced by resonance-enhanced high harmonic generation

Resonant enhancement of high harmonic generation can be obtained in plasmas containing ions with strong radiative transitions resonant with harmonic orders. The mechanism for this enhancement is still debated. We perform the first temporal characterization of the attosecond emission from a tin plasma under near-resonant conditions for two different resonance detunings. We show that the resonance considerably changes the relative phase of neighbouring harmonics. For very small detunings, their phase locking may even be lost, evidencing strong phase distortions in the emission process and a modified attosecond structure. These features are well reproduced by our simulations, allowing their interpretation in terms of the phase of the recombination dipole moment

Providing Innovative Processes in the Economic Development of the Russian Regions

One of the most important demonstrations of the modern economy is the growing importance of innovation. The innovative process, or the process of technological change is a complex concept encompassing the improvement of products, production processes, raw materials as well as management methods. Therefore, the central  aim of the research is to analyse the innovative processes that contribute to the development of the state economy. To accomplish the objectives, we carried out the calculations to examine the relations between the cost indicators, modelling, correlation and regression analyses. The particularities of business processes in innovative activities of organisations leads to uneven distribution, specific cost structure in the crisis and the traditional situation of an insignificant share of innovation in the financing process. The study presents mathematic model of innovation activities of an enterprise, based on economic indicators of current operations. The object of the research are industrial enterprises. Since an important segment of business processes in innovation is small innovative companies, our task is to develop a methodology for forecasting the number that would be suitable for them. From the findings of our research, we concluded that the models that had been previously developed were more effective at the micro level. Based on the analysis of the distribution of costs between technological, marketing, organisational innovations by types of innovation and economic activities by building an adequate set of statistical models, we have identified the following particularities: the basic internal (directly dependent) and external (indirectly affecting) factors that affect the selected performance characteristics

Effect of biochar on soil co2 fluxes from agricultural field experiments in russian far east

Agricultural soils are a major source of greenhouse gases. Biochar is a soil improver and, when applied to the soil, sequesters carbon. However, a different combination of soil and climatic conditions and biochar leads to different research results. In this research, the effects of 1 kg/m2 and 3 kg/m2 biochar application to clay soils on the CO2 flow in field experiments along two cropping seasons in the Russian Far East were investigated. Data showed that biochar significantly reduces the cumulative flow of soil CO2, compared with untreated field plots. In 2018, the greatest reduction in soil CO2 emissions (28.2%) with 3 kg/m2 of biochar was obtained, while in 2019, the greatest decrease in the cumulative CO2 flow at the application dose of 1 kg/m2 (57.7%) was recorded. A correlation between a decrease in the value of the cumulative CO2 flux and an increase in the biomass grown in the studied areas of agricultural crops during the season of 2018 was found

Purpose. The manuscript is devoted to the burning issue of education internationalization in modern society. Having come to study in Russia, many international students face a number of difficulties concerning various aspects of their life activity. The authors aim to study international students’ opinion regarding their residence in the European North and their study at the Russian medical university. Methodology. Survey findings of 149 Indian students studying at the International Faculty of General Practitioners of the Northern State Medical University (NSMU), Arkhangelsk compose the research basis. Results. Main challenges encountered by international students in the conditions of the European North, their attitude to the organization and quality of the educational process in the university were revealed. Cold climate, language barrier, the lack of traditional foods and separation from family are believed to be the main factors that make it difficult for junior students to learn. Senior students express their disappointment at the lack of clinical practice due to the distance learning during the pandemic and different level of students and teachers’ language proficiency. In general, students speak positively about university educational process and are satisfied with Russian education quality. Practical implications. Research findings can be used to develop recommendations for improving the socio-pedagogical adaptation of international students in Russian universities

Rotational and Cyclical Variability in gamma Cassiopeia

We report results of a nine-year monitoring effort on the unusual classical Be with a robotic ground-based (APT) B,V-filtered telescope as well as simultaneous observations in 2004 November with this instrument and the RXTE (X-ray) telescope. Our observations disclosed no correlated optical response to the rapid X-ray flares in this star, nor did the star show any sustained flux changes during the course of either of the two monitored nights in either wavelength regime. Our optical light curves reveal that gamma Cas undergoes \~3%-amplitude cycles with lengths of 60--90 days. Over the nine days we monitored the star with the RXTE, the X-ray flux varied in phase with its optical cycle and with an amplitude predicted from correlated optical/X-ray data from an earlier paper. The amplitudes of the V magnitude cycles are 30--40% larger than the B amplitudes, suggesting the seat of the cycles is circumstellar. The cycle lengths constantly change and can damp or grow on timescales as short as 13 days. We have also discovered a coherent period of 1.21581 +/-0.00002 days in all our data, which is consistent only with rotation. The full amplitude of this variation is 0.0060 in both filters. The derived waveform, somewhat surprisingly, is almost sawtooth in shape. This variation probably originates on the star's surface. This circumstance hints at the existence of a strong magnetic field with a complex topology and an associated heterogeneous surface composition.Comment: 31 pages, 7 figures. More than 300 000 new cases of endometrial cancer (EC) are registered annually in the world. The prognosis for EC is determined by the stage of the disease. In Russia, stage III–IV EC is diagnosed in 16 % of patients, with the mortality rate in the first year of follow-up of 9.2 %. The management of recurrent/metastatic EC remains a challenging clinical problem. Hormone therapy and chemotherapy is effective in 30 % of patients, with median progression-free and overall survival rates of approximately 6 months and 12 months, respectively. The role of targeted therapy in the treatment of EC remains undefined. However, several studies demonstrated that combination of targeted therapy with chemotherapy resulted in significant improvement in overall survival of patients with advanced endometrial cancer. Published data on the study of checkpoint inhibitors for EC have shown promising results, however, further research is required to more completely understand how the immune system recognizes and eradicated cancer.

Effects of Low-Level Laser Irradiation on Mammalian Cell Cultures: Comparative Experimental Studies with Different Types of Lasers at 1260-1270 nm

Abstract: The effects observed under near-infrared laser irradiation of mammalian cells have been demonstrated to depend to a large extent on the type of irradiation source. In our experiments, we have measured concentration of reactive oxygen species in cell cultures of different origin (rodent and human, cancerous and non-cancerous) exposed to the radiation of low-level lasers at 1265 nm. Surprisingly, the radiation effects of narrowband laser occur to be more pronounced compared with those provided by the lasers of broader linewidth. Also, we have found that the aggressive types of cancer require a more accurate selection of irradiation parameters and laser operation regime
