The genetic control of the day- neutral habit in populations of Fragaria vesca (Rosaceae) in Western Siberia

In Western Siberia, intense flowering of Fragaria vesca occurs in the first ten days of June and fruiting takes place from the end of June till early July. During our expeditions investigating natural Fragaria vesca L. populations of Western Siberia in 2002–2013, we registered cases of reflowering, or repeated flowering in August-October. The paper concerns the genetic control of re-flowering in natural populations of Fragaria vesca. The study was conducted with accessions collected in the expeditions and seedlings grown from seeds taken in August-October from natural populations of woodland strawberry reflowering. Genetic analysis of seedlings obtained by self-pollination of collected accessions was also made. It involved 1486 seedlings from plants with seasonal fruiting (representing 32 Western Siberian populations) and 856 seedlings from 10 populations showing reflowering and refruiting. Genetic analysis of reflowering Fragaria vesca plants growing in natural conditions showed that they were usually homozygous for the dominant allele of seasonal fruiting. Reflowering in Fragaria vesca in Western Siberia is considered to be a provisional response of the genotype to certain growth conditions specific for a particular vegetation season. The only woodland strawberry population in the foothills of Kuznetsk Alatau displayed plants heterozygous for fruiting habit. Segregation in the progeny of self-fertilized plants from this population evidences monogenic control of day neutrality with a recessive type of inheritance. Its nature is similar to that in Alpine Fragaria vesca populations

The results of vacuum-arc deposition of thin ZrO₂coatings to protect the surface of Nd-Fe-B permanent magnets used as repelling devices in orthodontics are presented. The structure, phase composition and mechanical properties of zirconium dioxide films have been investigated by means of SEM, XRD, EDX, XRF and nanoindentation method. It was revealed the formation of polycrystalline ZrO₂ films of monoclinic modification with average grain size 25 nm. The influence of the ZrO₂ coating in terms of its barrier properties for corrosion in quasi-physiological 0.9 NaCl solution has been studied. Electrochemical measurements indicated good barrier properties of the coating on specimens in the physiological solution environment

The authors propose methods to define the types of railway stations, using grade assessment of the operations, performed within them. The authors allocate the typical signs for every group of stations, includingintermediate exchanges, railway section stations, passenger, cargo stations, and classification yards. The authors describe main characteristics of operations and give the examples of classification of the stations, based on the greatest sum of specific weights of the entries taken into consideration.

MuSR method and tomographic probability representation of spin states

Muon spin rotation/relaxation/resonance (MuSR) technique for studying matter structures is considered by means of a recently introduced probability representation of quantum spin states. A relation between experimental MuSR histograms and muon spin tomograms is established. Time evolution of muonium, anomalous muonium, and a muonium-like system is studied in the tomographic representation. Entanglement phenomenon of a bipartite muon-electron system is investigated via tomographic analogues of Bell number and positive partial transpose (PPT) criterion. Reconstruction of the muon-electron spin state as well as the total spin tomography of composed system is discussed.Comment: 20 pages, 4 figures, LaTeX, submitted to Journal of Russian Laser Researc

Induced polarization of {\Lambda}(1116) in kaon electroproduction

We have measured the induced polarization of the Λ(1116){\Lambda}(1116) in the reaction epeK+Λep\rightarrow e'K^+{\Lambda}, detecting the scattered ee' and K+K^+ in the final state along with the proton from the decay Λpπ\Lambda\rightarrow p\pi^-.The present study used the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS), which allowed for a large kinematic acceptance in invariant energy WW (1.6W2.71.6\leq W \leq 2.7 GeV) and covered the full range of the kaon production angle at an average momentum transfer Q2=1.90Q^2=1.90 GeV2^2.In this experiment a 5.50 GeV electron beam was incident upon an unpolarized liquid-hydrogen target. We have mapped out the WW and kaon production angle dependencies of the induced polarization and found striking differences from photoproduction data over most of the kinematic range studied. However, we also found that the induced polarization is essentially Q2Q^2 independent in our kinematic domain, suggesting that somewhere below the Q2Q^2 covered here there must be a strong Q2Q^2 dependence. Along with previously published photo- and electroproduction cross sections and polarization observables, these data are needed for the development of models, such as effective field theories, and as input to coupled-channel analyses that can provide evidence of previously unobserved ss-channel resonances.Comment: 13 figure
