    Regulating altruistic agents

    Get PDF
Altruism or `regard for others' can encourage self-restraint among generators of negative externalities, thereby mitigating the externality problem. We explore how introducing impure altruism into standard regulatory settings alters regulatory prescriptions. We show that the optimal calibration of both quantitative controls and externality taxes are affected. It also leads to surprising results on the comparative performance of instruments. Under quantity-based regulation welfare is increasing in the propensity for altruism in the population; under price-based regulation the relationship is non-monotonic. Price-based regulation is preferred when the population is either predominantly altruistic or predominantly selfish, quantity-based regulation for cases in between

The research aims: (1) to find out a description about personal competency and teacher personality toward students\u27 learning motivation, and (2) to know a significant correlation together with personal competency, teacher professional competency, and students\u27 learning motivation at SMKN 2 Gorontalo. The research used a quantitative descriptive correlational and data were collected by using closed questionnaire with 80 second class students as respondents. The findings indicate that: (1) teachers\u27 personal competency and professional competency were moderate category, and (2) there was a significant impact between teacher personal competency and teacher professionality toward students\u27 learning motivation in teaching and learning process.

An Innovative Methodology to Optimize Aerospace Eco-efficiency Assembly Processes

    Get PDF
Sustainability and eco-efficiency have been researched in multiple scientific papers since the last years. However the literature is not so abundant when applying those concepts to industrial assembly processes. This paper presents an innovate methodology to optimize aerospace assembly processes. Authors propose the introduction of a new element, the eco-efficiency, along with the traditional criteria, cost and time, currently used for optimization. Using a large Aero-Structure as an industrial case of study, the methodology analyzes the eco-efficiency of an assembly process in connection with a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to compute the environmental impact. Results are shown in a dashboard along with the relevant Key Process Indicator (KPI) to help the engineers to select the best assembly processEuropean Union (UE). Protected Area and Conservation Strategy of Ciremai Mountain. The Ciremai MountainWest Jawa as one of the important water catchments area and as water supplier area forMajalengka, Kuningan, Cirebon, Indramayu district in West Jawa provice and part of Brebesdistrict in Central Jawa Province. In order to uphold its function in storing water resources, itis important to understand the protected area of Ceremai Mountain. The protected area wasestablished on its altitude, elevation, and type of soil of about 22,600 ha. 15,410 ha or 68.20%of this area has been recovered, including 8,320 ha of Ceremai Mountain National Park.Reforestation of the ex-pinus area was necessary to increase water reservation. Besides thatCeremai Mountain National Park was needed to be managed with agro forestry

SERUM FERRITIN AND HbA1c LEVELS IN TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS

Introduction: Complications due to diabetes are a major cause of disability, reduced quality of life and death. Recent studies have emphasized the role of serum ferritin in insulin resistance and the incidence of diabetes mellitus. However, the role of ferritin as a marker of iron overload in pancreatic damage and peripheral insulin resistance or its role as an inflammatory marker is not clear. The aim of this study is to establish a correlation between serum ferritin, FBS and HbA1c in type 2 diabetes mellitus and to evaluate the role of serum ferritin on the glycemic status in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods: This was a cross- sectional study of 100 cases, visiting medical outpatient department of a tertiary care teaching hospital. Diabetic patients were compared with age and sex matched normal healthy controls. Effect of serum ferritin on glycemic status, gender and age was noted. Results: Statistically significant increase of FPG, HbA1C and serum ferritin levels were observed in type 2 diabetes mellitus group than controls in both females and males while there was no statistically significant difference of hemoglobin between diabetic group and controls in females and males. There was a high (r= 0.62, r= 0.66) positive correlation between SF and HbA1c of females and males respectively in diabetic group P-value=< 0.01. Conclusion: Higher positive correlation of serum ferritin with HbA1c shows that hyperglycemia affects ferritin levels possibly due to inflammation or oxidative stress or a combination of the two. KEYWORDS: Type 2 diabetes mellitus; Glycosylated haemoglobin; Ferritin
