Degradation and reuse of radiative thermal protection system materials for the space shuttle
Three silicide coated columbium alloys and two cobalt alloys were subjected to identical simulated reentry profiling exposures in both static (controlled vacuum leak) and dynamic (hypersonic plasma shear) environments. Primary emphasis in the columbium alloy evaluation was on the Cb752 and C129Y alloys with a lesser amount on FS85. Commercial silicide coatings of the R512E and VH109 formulations were used. The coated specimens were intentionally defected to provide the types of coating flaws that are expected in service. Temperatures were profiled up to peak temperatures of either 2350 F or 2500 F for 15 minutes in each cycle

Variability in high-mass X-ray binaries
Strongly magnetized, accreting neutron stars show periodic and aperiodic
variability over a wide range of time scales. By obtaining spectral and timing
information on these different time scales, we can have a closer look into the
physics of accretion close to the neutron star and the properties of the
accreted material. One of the most prominent time scales is the strong
pulsation, i.e., the rotation period of the neutron star itself. Over one
rotation, our view of the accretion column and the X-ray producing region
changes significantly. This allows us to sample different physical conditions
within the column but at the same time requires that we have
viewing-angle-resolved models to properly describe them. In wind-fed high-mass
X-ray binaries, the main source of aperiodic variability is the clumpy stellar
wind, which leads to changes in the accretion rate (i.e., luminosity) as well
as absorption column. This variability allows us to study the behavior of the
accretion column as a function of luminosity, as well as to investigate the
structure and physical properties of the wind, which we can compare to winds in
isolated stars.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in Astronomische

Vela X-1 as a laboratory for accretion in High-Mass X-ray Binaries
Vela X-1 is an eclipsing high mass X-ray binary (HMXB) consisting of a 283s
accreting X-ray pulsar in a close orbit of 8.964 days around the B0.5Ib
supergiant HD77581 at a distance of just 2.4 kpc. The system is considered a
prototype of wind-accreting HMXB and it has been used as a baseline in
different theoretical or modelling studies.
We discuss the observational properties of the system and the use of the
observational data as laboratory to test recent developments in modelling the
accretion process in High-Mass X-ray Binaries (e.g., Sander et al. 2018; El
Mellah et al. 2018), which range from detailed descriptions of the wind
acceleration to modelling of the structure of the flow of matter close to the
neutron star and its variations.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, proceedings of the 12th INTEGRAL conference

Difficult Life Situation through the Eyes of Sports Youth
The article presents the results of a study of the representation of a difficult life situation in the perception of young people at the Institute of Physical Culture, Sports and Youth Policy of UrFU, conducted using the author’s survey. In the new world, the “new youth” concept of a difficult life situation changes - from a situation that objectively impedes a person’s life, to a situation that subjectively presents difficulties for self-realization, most often not directly related to a person at the moment, rather disturbing hypothetically. In general, most of the youth revealed a sense of security in the world, the majority associate difficulties with uncertainty and unpredictability, the rest of the categories are more associated with typical age-related fears. As a result of the article, the educational quest “Digital smart girl” is proposed, which will allow you to work out the skills of tracking insecurity signals in the digital environment, as well as to form competencies in managing uncertainty. The necessity of creating preventive conditions for youth in the educational process is shown
Cross-relaxation and phonon bottleneck effects on magnetization dynamics in LiYF4:Ho3+
Frequency and dc magnetic field dependences of dynamic susceptibility in
diluted paramagnets LiYF:Ho have been measured at liquid helium
temperatures in the ac and dc magnetic fields parallel to the symmetry axis of
a tetragonal crystal lattice. Experimental data are analyzed in the framework
of microscopic theory of relaxation rates in the manifold of 24
electron-nuclear sublevels of the lowest non-Kramers doublet and the first
excited singlet in the Ho ground multiplet split by the crystal
field of S symmetry. The one-phonon transition probabilities were computed
using electron-phonon coupling constants calculated in the framework of
exchange charge model and were checked by optical piezospectroscopic
measurements. The specific features observed in field dependences of the in-
and out-of-phase susceptibilities (humps and dips, respectively) at the
crossings (anti-crossings) of the electron-nuclear sublevels are well
reproduced by simulations when the phonon bottleneck effect and the cross-spin
relaxation are taken into account
Evaluation of the population of the Sverdlovsk region on drinking alcohol
During the work, the results of a survey of population of the Sverdlovsk region in relation to drinking of alcoholic beverages were analyzed. Risk groups for targeted information have been identified.В ходе работы были проанализированы результаты анкетирования жителей Свердловской области по отношению к употреблению алкогольных напитков. Установлены группы риска для целевого информирования
Weakly-nonlocal Symplectic Structures, Whitham method, and weakly-nonlocal Symplectic Structures of Hydrodynamic Type
We consider the special type of the field-theoretical Symplectic structures
called weakly nonlocal. The structures of this type are in particular very
common for the integrable systems like KdV or NLS. We introduce here the
special class of the weakly nonlocal Symplectic structures which we call the
weakly nonlocal Symplectic structures of Hydrodynamic Type. We investigate then
the connection of such structures with the Whitham averaging method and propose
the procedure of "averaging" of the weakly nonlocal Symplectic structures. The
averaging procedure gives the weakly nonlocal Symplectic Structure of
Hydrodynamic Type for the corresponding Whitham system. The procedure gives
also the "action variables" corresponding to the wave numbers of -phase
solutions of initial system which give the additional conservation laws for the
Whitham system.Comment: 64 pages, Late
