    On the SigmaN cusp in the pp -> pK+Lambda reaction

    Measurements of the pppK+Λpp \to pK^+\Lambda reaction at TpT_p = 2.28 GeV have been carried out at COSY-TOF. In addition to the Λp\Lambda p FSI and NN^* resonance excitation effects a pronounced narrow structure is observed in the Dalitz plot and in its projection on the pΛp\Lambda-invariant mass. The structure appears at the pppp \to NK+ΣK^+\Sigma threshold and is interpreted as Σ\SigmaN cusp effect. The observed width of 20 MeV/c2c^2 is substantially broader than anticipated from previous inclusive measurements. Angular distributions of this cusp structure are shown to be dissimilar to those in the residual pK+ΛpK^+\Lambda channel, but similar to those observed in the pK+Σ0pK^+\Sigma^0 channel

    Effect of Annealing and Ion Beam Irradiation on AC Electrical Properties for Gold Sputtered PM-355

    171-181Deposition of different gold thickness on PM-355 cleaned by ethanol forming thin films using magnetron sputtering. Gold layer with thickness 300, 400, 500, 700, 1000, 1300, and 1500 nm were deposited to prepare Au / PM-355 thin films. Then, ac electrical properties response of thin films for a wide frequency range 20Hz - 5MHz were measured at room temperature. Meanwhile, the measurements of ac conductivity, dielectric constant, and dielectric loss factor were plotted at different frequencies to determine the optimum thickness. Hence, the comparison was done between optimum Au thickness thin films cleaned by two organic solvents and ethanol before annealing at different frequencies. Also, study the effect of annealing and ion beam that extracted radially from conical anode and disc cathode ion source on optimum Au thickness thin film electrical properties. It is found that the annealing increases both dielectric constant, dielectric loss, and ac conductivity of optimum Au thin film at different frequencies. Despite, the nitrogen ion beam effected on these thin films by decreasing the dielectric constant and ac conductivity for all thin films except the chloroform one. Finally, study the comparison between the annealing and followed by ion irradiation thin films. It is noticed the decrease in ac electrical conductivity and dielectric constant at different frequencies

    Systematic study of the pp -> pp omega reaction

    A systematic study of the production of omega-mesons in proton-proton-collisions was carried out in a kinematically complete experiment at three excess energies(epsilon= 92, 128, 173MeV). Both protons were detected using the large-acceptance COSY-TOF spectrometer at an external beam line at the Cooler Synchrotron COSY at Forschungszentrum J\"ulich. The total cross section, angular distributions of both omega-mesons and protons were measured and presented in various reference frames such as the overall CMS, helicity and Jackson frame. In addition, the orientation of the omega-spin and invariant mass spectra were determined. We observe omega-production to take place dominantly in Ss and Sp final states at epsilon = 92, 128 MeV and, additionally, in Sd at epsilon= 173 MeV. No obvious indication of resonant omega-production via N^*-resonances was found, as proton angular distributions are almost isotropic and invariant mass spectra are compatible with phase space distributions. A dominant role of ^3P_1 and ^1S_0 initial partial waves for omega-production was concluded from the orientation of the decay plane of the omega-meson. Although the Jackson angle distributions in the omega-p-Jackson frame are anisotropic we argue that this is not an indication of a resonance but rather a kinematical effect reflecting the anisotropy of the omega angular distribution. The helicity angle distribution in the omega-p-helicity frame shows an anisotropy which probably reflects effects of the omega angular momenta in the final state; this observable may be, in addition to the orientation of the omega decay plane, the most sensitive one to judge the validity of theoretical descriptions of the production process.Comment: 17 pages, 16 figures, accepted for publication in EPJ

    A new mechanism of SOX9 action to regulate PKC expression in the intestine epithelium

    International audienceVariations of protein kinase C (PKC) expression greatly influence the proliferation-to-differentiation transition (PDT) of intestinal epithelial cells and might have an important impact on intestinal tumorigenesis. We demonstrate here that the expression of PKCalpha in proliferating intestinal epithelial cells is repressed both in vitro and in vivo by the SOX9 transcription factor. This repression does not require DNA binding of the SOX9 high-mobility group (HMG) domain but is mediated through a new mechanism of SOX9 action requiring the central and highly conserved region of SOXE members. Because SOX9 expression is itself upregulated by Wnt-APC signaling in intestinal epithelial cells, the present study points out this transcription factor as a molecular link between the Wnt-APC pathway and PKCalpha. These results provide a potential explanation for the decrease of PKCalpha expression in colorectal cancers with constitutive activation of the Wnt-APC pathway

    Production of Lambda and Sigma^0 hyperons in proton-proton collisions

    This paper reports results on simultaneous measurements of the reaction channels pp -> pK+\Lambda and pp -> pK+\Sigma^0 at excess energies of 204, 239, and 284 MeV (\Lambda) and 127, 162, and 207 MeV (\Sigma^0). Total and differential cross sections are given for both reactions. It is concluded from the measured total cross sections that the high energy limit of the cross section ratio is almost reached at an excess energy of only about 200 MeV. From the differential distributions observed in the overall CMS as well as in the Jackson and helicity frames, a significant contribution of interfering nucleon resonances to the \Lambda production mechanism is concluded while resonant \Sigma^0-production seems to be of lesser importance and takes place only through specific partial waves of the entrance channel. The data also indicate that kaon exchange plays a minor role in the case of \Lambda- but an important role for \Sigma^0-production. Thus the peculiar energy dependence of the \Lambda-to-\Sigma^0 cross section ratio appears in a new light as its explanation requires more than mere differences between the p\Lambda and the p\Sigma^0 final state interaction.     Comparison of Isoscalar Vector Meson Production Cross Sections in Proton-Proton Collisions

    The reaction ppppω pp\to pp\bf \omega was investigated with the TOF spectrometer, which is an external experiment at the accelerator COSY (Forschungszentrum J\"ulich, Germany). Total as well as differential cross sections were determined at an excess energy of 93MeV93 MeV (pbeam=2950MeV/cp_{beam}=2950 MeV/c). Using the total cross section of (9.0±0.7±1.1)μb(9.0\pm 0.7 \pm1.1) \mu b for the reaction ppppω pp\to pp\omega determined here and existing data for the reaction ppppϕpp\to pp\bf \phi, the ratio Rϕ/ω=σϕ/σω\mathcal{R}_{\phi/\omega}=\sigma_\phi/\sigma_\omega turns out to be significantly larger than expected by the Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka (OZI) rule. The uncertainty of this ratio is considerably smaller than in previous determinations. The differential distributions show that the ω\omega production is still dominated by S-wave production at this excess energy, however higher partial waves clearly contribute. A comparison of the measured angular distributions for ω\omega production to published distributions for ϕ\phi production at 83MeV83 MeV shows that the data are consistent with an identical production mechanism for both vector mesons

    On the nature of the lowest 1/21/2^- baryon nonet and decuplet

    From recent study of properties of the lowest spin-parity 1/21/2^- baryons, N(1535)N^*(1535) and Δ(1620)\Delta^*(1620), new pictures for the internal structure of the lowest 1/21/2^- baryon octet and decuplet are proposed. While the lowest 1/21/2^- baryon octet may have large diquark-diquark-antiquark component, the lowest 1/21/2^- baryon decuplet is proposed to have large vector-meson-baryon components. Evidence for the "missing" members of the new pictures is pointed out and suggestions are made for detecting these predicted states from forthcoming experiments.Comment: for Proceedings of NSTAR07 at Bonn, German

    Measurement of the Eta Production in Proton Proton Collisions with the COSY Time of Flight Spectrometer

    The reaction pp -> pp eta was measured at excess energies of 15 and 41 MeV at an external target of the Juelich Cooler Synchrotron COSY with the Time of Flight Spectrometer. About 25000 events were measured for the excess energy of 15 MeV and about 8000 for 41 MeV. Both protons of the process pp eta were detected with an acceptance of nearly 100% and the eta was reconstructed by the missing mass technique. For both excess energies the angular distributions are found to be nearly isotropic. In the invariant mass distributions strong deviations from the pure phase space distributions are seen.Comment: 15 pages, 14 figures, 4 table

    High resolution study of the Lambda p final state interaction in the reaction p + p -> K+ + (Lambda p)

    The reaction pp -> K+ + (Lambda p) was measured at Tp=1.953 GeV and Theta = 0 deg with a high missing mass resolution in order to study the Lambda p final state interaction. The large final state enhancement near the Lambda p threshold can be described using the standard Jost-function approach. The singlet and triplet scattering lengths and effective ranges are deduced by fitting simultaneously the Lambda p invariant mass spectrum and the total cross section data of the free Lambda p scattering.Comment: submitted to Physics Letters B, 10 pages, 3 figure
