AbstractIndependently of the sector in which company operates, all are subject to economic crisis, growth slowdowns and problems arising from economic instability, forcing companies to be prepared for the challenges of everyday. Against this reality a research was realized at Fruteira Japonesa, at the city of Palmeira das Missões, that aims the development of a budget system, including a strategic plan, planning of purchases, sales, cash, statement of income and balance sheet designed. This paper had characteristics of applied research, descriptive, documental, qualitative and participatory observation. The applicability of the budget system held in the company had considerable importance for planning and development, succeeding in their goals and projecting a future financial situation

Foam-forming properties of Ilex paraguariensis (mate) saponin: foamability and foam lifetime analysis by Weibull equation

Saponins are natural soaplike foam-forming compounds widely used in foods, cosmetic and pharmaceutical preparations. In this work foamability and foam lifetime of foams obtained from Ilex paraguariensis unripe fruits were analyzed. Polysorbate 80 and sodium dodecyl sulfate were used as reference surfactants. Aiming a better data understanding a linearized 4-parameters Weibull function was proposed. The mate hydroethanolic extract (ME) and a mate saponin enriched fraction (MSF) afforded foamability and foam lifetime comparable to the synthetic surfactants. The linearization of the Weibull equation allowed the statistical comparison of foam decay curves, improving former mathematical approaches

Single-tree effects on soil P pools in a multi-strata agroforestry systems.

Presentation of the effects of different fruit and timber tree species in a multi-strata agroforestry systems in comparison to secondary vegetation and primary forest sites on inorganic and organic P pools of a Ferralsols in the Amazon basin. The S pools were also assessed, but could not be presented here due to the lenght of this contribution. Conclusion: The modified Hedley procedure proved to be extremely useful for the studied soil type to demonstrate the highly contrasting P dynamics of the experimental sites. The different tree species exhibited a pronuounced and relevant effect on P properties in the multi-strata agroforestry system. These strongly contrasting effects have to be considered when designing multi-strata agroforestry systems and may help to improve the efficiency of nutrient cycling

Assessment of methotrexate as a potential immunosuppressive agent in baboons

Methotrexate is an anti-proliferative agent that affects both T-cell and B-cell immunity, and therefore might be expected to suppress antibody (Ab) production. Although it has been used in xenotransplantation studies to suppress anti-pig Ab production, it has always been used in combination with other immunosuppressants. The purpose of this study was to measure its effect as a single immunosuppressant on anti-Gal Ab production in baboons (n=4). Pharmacokinetic studies showed that methotrexate was not detected in the blood when administered per os. Prolonged daily IV or IM administration (i) reduced T-cell and B-cell numbers by 50% to 70% and modestly reduced responsiveness on mixed lymphocyte reaction (but only at toxic doses) and (ii) did not result in lowered anti-Gal Ab levels, only marginally reducing the rate of return of Ab after extracorporeal immunoadsorption. Our observations would suggest that methotrexate will not contribute significantly to immunosuppressive regimens in the baboon at non-toxic doses

Peripheral blood progenitor cell mobilization and leukapheresis in pigs

The pig is being investigated as an organ donor for humans. Induction of immunologic tolerance to pig tissues in primates would overcome the major immunologic barriers to xenotransplantation. A proven method of inducing tolerance to allografts is by the induction of mixed hematopoietic chimerism by bone marrow transplantation. We are therefore investigating induction of mixed hematopoietic chimerism in the pig-to-baboon model
