    A Review of ECG Signal De-noising and Peaks Detection Techniques

    The Modern era is marked by tension and, therefore, heart is in trouble. Whole of the world is busy making research in ECG techniques. on Electrocardiogram and its feature extraction is the area of interest.. Analysis and classification let the medical professional to detect the heart ailments and other diseases. In our research method for De-noising of ECG signal and Feature extraction Algorithm is proposed. We considered the baseline wander problem in ECG signal which is basically due to the measurement error. This work involves the IIR filter Savitzky-Golay filter and Wavelet Transform. ECG signal is de-noised without affecting any information from ECG. We have also designed a feature Extraction algorithm which automatically detects the RR interval and QRS interval along with the amplitude of Q, R, and S. The whole algorithm including the de-noising of signal and Feature extraction. This work has been simulated on the MATLab software

    An Ayurvedic approach to Low Back Pain

    Low back pain is the leading cause of activity limitation and work absence throughout much of the world, imposing a high economic burden on individuals, families, communities, industry and governments. It is a prevalent condition that afflicts about 70% of people in developing countries at some point in their lifetime. Ayurvedic classical terms such as Katishoola, Kati Graha, Trika Shoola and Gridhrasi are used for describing the low back pain. The pain localized to low back can be considered under Katishoola and pain along with stiffness are included under Katigraha and Pain radiating to lower limb are considered under Gridhrasi. Treatment modalities which are beneficial for pacifying Vata such as Vatasaya Upakrama and Vatavyadhi Chikitsa are used in treating conditions of low back pain. Specific Chikitsa Sutras mentioned for the Katishoola, Katigraha, Trikashoola and Gridhrasi are to be followed in low back pain. To prevent the reoccurrence, lifestyle modification and low back strengthening exercise are to be advised

    A cost-effective analysis of various disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs for patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis

    Background: Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is a chronic disabling disorder that lowers quality of life in the affected patients. Early treatment with disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs, provides better control of disease and minimize joint destruction. Long term therapy imparts considerable economic burden to the patients. Cost effective analysis was performed among the patients treated with methotrexate (MTX) alone, hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) alone, and both (MTX+HCQ).Methods: A prospective, observational study for six months to analyze the cost-effectiveness in RA patients with DMARDs-MTX, HCQ and MTX+HCQ. A total of 91 patients were included for analysis; 43 patients in MTX and HCQ group; 37 patients in MTX group and 11 patients in HCQ group. To assess the functional disability,” Stanford Health Assessment Questionnaire - Disability Index” (HAQ-DI) was administered. The patients were followed up for four months. The HAQ-DI at the baseline was compared with that of final follow up. The change in HAQ-DI and the total costs were used to find out the average cost- effective ratio (ACER).Results: The least ACER was obtained for Hydroxychloroquine and highest was for Methotrexate. But there was no statistically significant difference in ACER between various treatment groups. There was no significant difference in the disease activity improvement between the three groups.Conclusions: MTX, HCQ and MTX+HCQ showed improvement in disease activity without any significant difference. MTX is superior considering direct cost but there is no difference in the total cost between three groups

    Role of intrauterine tubo-peritoneal insemination and intrauterine insemination in the treatment of infertility

    Background: Infertility management has become more substantial and relevant with an increase in the number of infertile patients as well as advances in the science of reproduction. The objective of our study was to assess the role of intrauterine tuboperitoneal insemination (IUTPI) and intrauterine insemination (IUI) in the treatment of infertile patients.Methods: 236 infertile patients, 118 in each group attending the infertility clinic, after applying both inclusion and exclusion criteria were enrolled in the present study. Patients in each study group were given clomiphene citrate for ovarian stimulation followed by injection hCG for triggering ovulation. Insemination with washed husband’s sperm was performed about 36-40 hours after hCG administration, using 10ml of  inseminate in IUTPI and 0.5ml inseminate in IUI. The patient was then called after 2 weeks for urine pregnancy test (UPT) which, if positive was considered as clinical pregnancy.Results: Out of the total 236 cases, 42 cases had a positive outcome. Out of these 42 positive cases, 27 were from IUTPI group whereas 15 from IUI group. The pregnancy rate was 22.88% in IUTPI and 12.71% in IUI (p=0.039), which was a statistically significant difference. Endometrial thickness, preovulatory follicle number and prewash sperm motility significantly affected positive outcome in IUTPI. Factors like patient’s age, BMI<25, bilateral patent tubes and decreased duration of infertility also positively affected the treatment outcome.Conclusions: Our study found IUTPI to have better pregnancy rate compared to IUI. IUTPI may become a first line option for treatment of infertile patients

    Development and Validation of Analytical Method for Simultaneous Estimation of Formoterol Fumarate Dihydrate and Fluticasone Propionate from Bulk and Dry Powder Inhaler Formulation

    A method was developed and validated for analysis of Formoterol Fumarate and Fluticasone Propionate in dry powder inhaler formulations. Separation was achieved on a HiQ Sil C18HS, 250×4.6 mm, 5 µm column using a mobile phase consisting of Acetonitrile: 0.01 M Ammonium Dihydrogen Phosphate solution (80:20 %v/v) at a flow rate of 1ml/min PDA detection at 215.0 nm. This method is validated according to ICH guidelines, which include linearity, precision, accuracy, specificity, robustness.     A highly magnified star at redshift 6.2

    Galaxy clusters magnify background objects through strong gravitational lensing. Typical magnifications for lensed galaxies are factors of a few but can also be as high as tens or hundreds, stretching galaxies into giant arcs1,2. Individual stars can attain even higher magnifications given fortuitous alignment with the lensing cluster. Recently, several individual stars at redshifts between approximately 1 and 1.5 have been discovered, magnified by factors of thousands, temporarily boosted by microlensing3,4,5,6. Here we report observations of a more distant and persistent magnified star at a redshift of 6.2 ± 0.1, 900 million years after the Big Bang. This star is magnified by a factor of thousands by the foreground galaxy cluster lens WHL0137–08 (redshift 0.566), as estimated by four independent lens models. Unlike previous lensed stars, the magnification and observed brightness (AB magnitude, 27.2) have remained roughly constant over 3.5 years of imaging and follow-up. The delensed absolute UV magnitude, −10 ± 2, is consistent with a star of mass greater than 50 times the mass of the Sun.
