Fabrication of lightweight Si/SiC LIDAR mirrors

    Get PDF
A new, chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process was developed for fabricating lightweight, polycrystalline silicon/silicon-carbide (Si/SiC) mirrors. The process involves three CVD steps: (1) to produce the mirror faceplate; (2) to form the lightweight backstructure, which is deposited integral to the faceplate; and (3) to deposit a layer of optical-grade material, e.g., Si, onto the front surface of the faceplate. The mirror figure and finish are fabricated into the faceplate

Charged Vaidya-Tikekar model for super compact star

In this work, we explore a class of compact charged spheres that have been tested against experimental and observational constraints with some known compact stars candidates. The study is performed by considering the self-gravitating, charged, isotropic fluids which is more pliability in solving the Einstein-Maxwell equations. In order to determine the interior geometry, we utilize the Vaidya-Tikekar geometry for the metric potential with Riessner-Nordstrom metric as an exterior solution. In this models, we determine constants after selecting some particular values of M and R, for the compact objects SAX J1808.4-3658, Her X-1 and 4U 1538-52. The most striking consequence is that hydrostatic equilibrium is maintained for different forces, and the situation is clarified by using the generalized Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff (TOV) equation. In addition to this, we also present the energy conditions, speeds of sound and compactness of stars that are very much compatible to that for a physically acceptable stellar model. Arising solutions are also compared with graphical representations that provide strong evidences for more realistic and viable models, both at theoretical and astrophysical scale.Comment: 13 Pages, 5 Figures and 4 Table

Comparative Evaluation of Stapled Hemorrhoidectomy versus Open Hemorrhoidectomy

    Get PDF
Background: Hemorrhoid is one of the most common diseases encountered by a surgeon on daily basis. The choice of method of treatment for hemorrhoids depends on the severity and the type of symptoms, on the degree of prolapse and on the expertise of the surgeon and available equipment. Aim of this study is to compare stapled hemorrhoidectomy with conventional Milligan-Morgan hemorrhoidectomy in terms of surgical outcomes.Materials and Methods: Out of total of 50 patients selected, 25 underwent open and 25 stapled hemorrhoidectomy. Inclusion criteria for selection of the patients were large grade II, III and IV hemorrhoids and externo-internal hemorrhoids with well-developed external hemorrhoids. Results: Out of 50 patients included in our study, 15 were female and 35 male. The youngest was of 25 years of age and eldest 59 years. In group A, mean operative time was 29.8 min as against 51.32 min in group B with p value <0.001. All patients of group A were virtually pain free 7 days postoperatively, while mean pain of 1.04 was still recorded at 7 days in group B patients. Conclusion: Early functional and symptomatic outcomes have been found satisfactory and comparatively better with stapled hemorrhoidectomy. However, long-term follow-up in respect of so many factors is yet to be seen and further studies are required for this

A process to fabricate lightweigth ceramic mirrors, and in particular, silicon/silicon carbide mirrors, involves three chemical vapor deposition steps: one to produce the mirror faceplate, the second to form the lightweight backstructure which is deposited integral to the faceplate, and the third and final step which results in the deposition of a layer of optical grade material, for example, silicon, onto the front surface of the faceplate. The mirror figure and finish are fabricated into this latter material

Diversity, Distribution and Indigenous Uses of the \u3cem\u3eHypericum\u3c/em\u3e Species in Indian Himalayan Region

    Get PDF
The genus Hypericum is known worldwide for its traditional and modern uses. Therefore, an attempt has been made to assess the diversity, distribution and indigenous uses of the species of this genus in the Indian Himalayan Region (IHR). A total of 27 species of Hypericum were recorded from the IHR, of these 17 were economically important. Thirteen species were native to the Himalayan region, 3 were endemic and 6 were near endemic species. Amongst the species, Hypericum perforatum was the most valued species used for fuel, fodder, dying and medicine, and for the extraction of hypericin. Due to over exploitation of this species for the pharmaceutical industries, the natural populations of this species are depleting fast and this species have been placed under vulnerable category of the IUCN. Similarly, due to multiple utility of the H. choisanum, H. oblongifolium and H. sampsonii, these species are also facing high pressures. It is expected that like H. perforatum, other species of Hypericum may have high concentration of hypericin. Therefore, chemical extraction of these species has been suggested for the identification of potential of these species. The population assessment using standard ecological methods and development of propagation protocol have been suggested

A Survey of Model Used for Web User’s Browsing Behavior Prediction

    Get PDF
The motivation behind the work is that the prediction of web user’s browsing behavior while serving the Internet, reduces the user’s browsing access time and avoids the visit of unnecessary pages to ease network traffic. Various models such as fuzzy interference models, support vector machines (SVMs), artificial neural networks (ANNs), association rule mining (ARM), k-nearest neighbor(kNN) Markov model, Kth order Markov model, all-Kth Markov model and modified Markov model were proposed to handle Web page prediction problem. Many times, the combination of two or more models were used to achieve higher prediction accuracy. This research work introduces the Support Vector Machines for web page prediction. The advantages of using support vector machines is that it offers most robust and accurate classification due to their generalized properties with its solid theoretical foundation and proven effectiveness. Web contains enormous amount of data and web data increases exponentially but the training time for Support vector machine is very large. That is, SVM’s suffer from a widely recognized scalability problem in both memory requirement and computation time when the input dataset is too large. To address this, I aimed at training the Support vector machine model in MapReduce programming model of Hadoop framework, since the MapReduce programming model has the ability to rapidly process large amount of data in parallel. MapReduce works in tandem with Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS). So proposed approach will solve the scalability problem of present SVM algorithm. Analysis of Aqueducts Subjected to Hydrostatic and Dynamic Loads Using 3D - Solid Modeling

    Get PDF
In many areas of developing countries, the access to fresh water is limited even today. Aqueducts are the major structures in water supply and diversion schemes when carrying the water over natural and artificial obstacles such as valleys, rivers, roads, railway lines, canals etc. During an earthquake, the effect of water sloshing on the walls of aqueduct and the resulting hydrodynamic forces is often neglected. In this study, the analysis is carried out for a single span elevated aqueduct using finite element analysis, in which the structure is discretized into smaller elements. The structure is modelled using solid elements in Staad Pro V8i software for different loads. The behavioral response of aqueduct structure subjected to hydrostatic loads and dynamic loads due to seismic ground excitation has been analyzed. It has been observed that the structure is more vulnerable to dynamic loads compared to hydrostatic loads. The effect of dynamic loads due to sloshing of water under seismic forces is predominant. The stresses induced by hydrodynamic loads are observed to be 2.4 times more than hydrostatic loads
