Cripping and Deafening COVID-19- Re-Framing a Pandemic in Higher Education
This article looks at ways institutions of higher education (IHEs) can use the models of disability, disability studies, and Deaf studies to âcripâ and âDeafenâ their response to COVID-19. A review of previous epidemics and pandemics, including yellow fever, the 1918 influenza epidemic, polio, and HIV/AIDS disease, disability, and Deafness. Health services, counseling centers, and disability resource centers expanded over time, and IHEs still rely heavily on them for health, disability, and Deaf concerns. By cripping and Deafening COVID-19 responses, higher education can use a more holistic view of the pandemic, making illness, mental health, disability and Deafness the responsibility of entire campuses, which can then proceed to do intersectional anti-ableist and anti-audist work that includes people with disabilities
Near-BPS Skyrmions: Non-shell configurations and Coulomb effects
The relatively small binding energy in nuclei suggests that they may be well
represented by near-BPS Skyrmions since their mass is roughly proportional to
the baryon number For that purpose, we propose a generalization of the
Skyrme model with terms up to order six in derivatives of the pion fields and
treat the nonlinear and Skyrme terms as small perturbations. For our
special choice of mass term (or potential) , we obtain well-behaved
analytical BPS-type solutions with non-shell configurations for the baryon
density, as opposed to the more complex shell-like configurations found in most
extensions of the Skyrme model . Along with static and (iso)rotational
energies, we add to the mass of the nuclei the often neglected Coulomb energy
and isospin breaking term. Fitting the four model parameters, we find a
remarkable agreement for the binding energy per nucleon with respect to
experimental data. These results support the idea that nuclei could be near-BPS

HOOK-GRIP IMPROVES POWER CLEAN KINETICS AND KINEMATICS
The purpose of this study was to compare one repetition maximum (1RM), as well as biomechanical outputs across a range of loads (75-100%) in the power clean (PC) utilizing the hook grip (HG) or closed-grip (CG). Eleven well-trained males (PC 1RM=1.34xBW) with at least six months of HG experience volunteered. Following a familiarization session, PC 1RM testing with the HG and CG were completed in random order, 5-7 days apart on a force platform with linear position transducers and 2D motion capture. The HG condition resulted in greater PC 1RM (6.6%, ES=0.43), peak barbell velocity (2.9-5.2%, ES=0.41-0.70) and relative peak barbell power (5.7-15.1%, ES=0.32-0.71) at all submaximal loads compared to CG. No substantial differences were found in horizontal bar-path (ES=-0.27-0.32). A systematic review of school-based sexual health interventions to prevent STI/HIV in sub-Saharan Africa
Background
The HIV/AIDS epidemic remains of global significance and there is a need to target (a) the adolescent age-groups in which most new infections occur; and (b) sub-Saharan Africa where the greatest burden of the epidemic lies. A focused systematic review of school-based sexual health interventions in sub-Saharan Africa to prevent HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) in this age group was therefore conducted.
Methods
Searches were conducted in Medline, Embase, Cinahl and PsychINFO according to agreed a priori criteria for studies published between 1986 and 2006. Further searches were conducted in UNAIDS and WHO (World Health Organization) websites, and 'Google'. Relevant journals were hand-searched and references cited in identified articles were followed up.
Data extraction and quality assessment was carried out on studies selected for full text appraisal, and results were analysed and presented in narrative format.
Results
Some 1,020 possible titles and abstracts were found, 23 full text articles were critically appraised, and 12 articles (10 studies) reviewed, reflecting the paucity of published studies conducted relative to the magnitude of the HIV epidemic in sub-Saharan Africa. Knowledge and attitude-related outcomes were the most associated with statistically significant change. Behavioural intentions were more difficult to change and actual behaviour change was least likely to occur. Behaviour change in favour of abstinence and condom use appeared to be greatly influenced by pre-intervention sexual history.
Conclusion
There is a great need in sub-Saharan Africa for well-evaluated and effective school-based sexual health interventions
Multimodal imaging of sarcoid choroidal granulomas
BACKGROUND: Enhanced-depth imaging optical coherence tomography (EDI-OCT) provides high-resolution imaging of the choroid. Herein, we report multimodal imaging, including EDI-OCT, of a case of sarcoid choroidal granulomas. FINDINGS: A 63-year-old female with biopsy-supported sarcoidosis presented with unilateral multifocal choroidal granulomas. Enhanced-depth imaging optical coherence tomography (EDI-OCT) demonstrated a homogenous hyporeflective choroidal lesion with choriocapillaris thinning and sparing of the surrounding choroid. The patient was started on oral steroids with a weekly taper schedule. Within 5 weeks, the choroidal lesions had clinically resolved with return of normal-appearing choroidal architecture on EDI-OCT. Indocyanine green angiography, however, demonstrated hypofluoresence at the sites of choroidal granulomas 11 months after the clinical resolution, suggesting a longstanding choroidal perfusion deficit undetected by OCT. CONCLUSIONS: Choroidal imaging via EDI-OCT provides detailed morphologic information of sarcoid granulomas and can accurately demonstrate structural resolution of the lesions

Dew point, internal gas pressure, and chemical composition of the gas within the free volume of DWPF canistered waste forms
The Defense Waste Processing Facility (DWPF) produced 55 canistered waste forms containing simulated waste glass during the four Waste Qualification campaigns of the DWPF Startup Test Program. Testing of the gas within the free volume of these canisters for dew point, internal gas pressure, and chemical composition was performed as part of a continuing effort to demonstrate compliance with the Waste Acceptance Product Specifications. Results are presented for six glass-filled canisters. The dew points within the canisters met the acceptance criterion of < 20{degrees}C for all six canisters. Factors influencing the magnitude of the dew point are presented. The chemical composition of the free volume gas was indistinguishable from air for all six canisters. Hence, no foreign materials were present in the gas phase of these canisters. The internal gas pressures within the sealed canisters were < 1 atm at 25{degrees}C for all six canisters which readily met the acceptance criterion of an internal gas pressure of less than 1.5 atm at 25{degrees}C. These results provided the evidence required to demonstrate compliance with the Waste Acceptance Product Specifications
