Magnetic field concentration with coaxial silicon nanocylinders in the optical spectral range
Resonant magnetic energy accumulation is theoretically investigated in the optical and near-infrared regions. It is demonstrated that the silicon nanocylinders with and without coaxial through holes can be used for the control and manipulation of optical magnetic fields, providing up to 26-fold enhancement of these fields for the considered system. Magnetic field distributions and dependence on the parameters of nanocylinders are revealed at the wavelengths of magnetic dipole and quadrupole resonances responsible for the enhancement. The obtained results can be applied, for example, to designing nanoantennas for the detection of atoms with magnetic optical transitions
In Vitro Cytotoxicity of CdSe/ZnS Quantum Dots and Their Interaction with Biological Systems
Semiconductor nanocrystals (quantum dots, QDs) have a wide range of potential application in multiplexed tissue and cell imaging, and for in vivo molecular diagnostics and therapy. Therefore studying of the toxicity of QDs and their influence on various cellular processes in vitro is necessary to understand their interaction with living systems.; The paper presents the results of studies on the evaluation of CdSe/ZnS QD cytotoxicity, as well as the results of studying their interaction with freshly prepared human monocytes in vitro.

Transmission and reflection features of all-dielectrics metasurfaces with electric and magnetic resonances
The effective multipole decomposition approach is applied to study the optical features of the silicon metasurface in the near-infrared. The spectral regions of perfect transmission and reflection have been analyzed using the Cartesian multipole decomposition. It is shown that transmission peaks appear due to the mutual interaction of multipole moments up to the third order, while reflection peaks are due to the dominant contribution of one of the multipole moments. The results of this work can be broadly applied to design novel metasurfaces, sensors, and optical filters. This item from the UA Faculty Publications collection is made available by the University of Arizona with support from the University of Arizona Libraries. Enrichment of meat products with dietary fibers: a review
ArticleIn recent years, much attention has been paid to the development of food products with
properties that can promote well-being and prevent disease. Tested strategies to improve the
functional value of meat products through the introduction of dietary fiber are reviewed here.
Based on the literature reviewed, the addition of dietary fiber in meat products contributes to the
fabrication of products which enhance physiological functions. Furthermore, fibers can be used
to improve the quality and yield of meat products
Cytotoxicity of Polyelectrolyte Microcapsules Encoded with Semiconductor Nanocrystals
Polyelectrolyte microcapsules are promising carriers of drugs and diagnostic agents for designing targeted and controlled delivery systems design. The use of quantum dots (QDs) as fluorescent labels in bioimaging is a promising approach to bioimaging tool development. The potential toxicity of QDs makes their applicability as fluorescent labels in vivo questionable. Therefore, the cytotoxicity of polyelectrolyte microcapsules encoded with semiconductor nanocrystals has been investigated.

Selective staining and eradication of cancer cells by protein-carrying DARPin-functionalized liposomes
Since their discovery, liposomes have been widely employed in biomedical research. These nano-size spherical vesicles consisting one or few phospholipid bilayers surrounding an aqueous core are capable of carrying a wide variety of bioactive compounds, including drugs, peptides, nucleic acids, proteins and others. Despite considerable success achieved in synthesis of liposome constructs containing bioactive compounds, preparation of ligand-targeted liposomes comprising large quantities of encapsulated proteins that are capable of affecting pathological cells still remains a big challenge. Here we described a novel method for preparation of small (80\u201390 nm in diameter) unilamellar liposomes containing very large quantities (thousands of protein molecules per liposome) of heme-containing cytochrome c, highly fluorescent mCherry and highly toxic PE40 (Pseudomonas aeruginosa Exotoxin A domain). Efficient encapsulation of the proteins was achieved through electrostatic interaction between positively charged proteins (at pH lower than pI) and negatively charged liposome membrane. The proteoliposomes containing large quantities of mCherry or PE40 and functionalized with designed ankyrin repeat protein (DARPin)_9-29, which targets human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) were shown to specifically stain and kill in sub-nanomolar concentrations HER2-positive cells, overexpressing HER2, respectively. Specific staining and eradication of the receptor-positive cells demonstrated here makes the DARPin-functionalized liposomes carrying large quantities of fluorescent and/or toxic proteins a promising candidate for tumor detection and therapy
The purpose of this study is to study the capabilities of the Quizlet mobile application as a tool for the development of lexical competence of linguists, to determine the readiness to use this mobile application in classroom training aimed at mastering foreign language vocabulary at the university. A survey conducted among undergraduate students of the 45.03.02 "Linguistics" major of the B. N. Yeltsin UrFU shows a positive attitude of students to mobile applications and readiness to use them in the classroom
