    Relativistic global and local divergences in hydrogenic systems: A study in position and momentum spaces

    Relativistic effects in one-particle densities of hydrogenic systems are quantified by means of global and local density functionals: the Jensen-Shannon and the Jensen-Fisher divergences, respectively. The Schrödinger and Dirac radial densities are compared, providing complementary results in position and momentum spaces. While the electron cloud gets compressed towards the origin in the Dirac case, the momentum density spreads out over its domain, and the raising of minima in position space does not occur in the momentum space. Regarding the dependence on the nuclear charge and the state quantum numbers for all divergences here considered, as well as their mutual interconnection, accurate powerlike laws y˜Cxa are found systematically. The parameters {C,a} defining the respective dependences are extremely sensitive to the closeness of the system to the ground and/or the circular state. Particularly interesting are the analyses of (i) the plane subtended by the Jensen-Shannon and Jensen-Fisher divergences, in a given space (position or momentum), and (ii) either of the above two divergences in the position-momentum plane. These kinds of results show the complementary role of global and local divergences and that of both conjugate spaces

    Middle Neolithic farming of open-air sites in SE France: new insights from archaeobotanical investigations of three wells found at Les Bagnoles (L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, Dépt. Vaucluse, France)

    Previous reviews of Middle Neolithic agricultural practice (4400–3500 cal bc) in southern France have highlighted a change in crop assemblages after 4000 cal bc, with a reduction of naked wheat and an increase of emmer and partly of einkorn. The recent investigation of three wells from the site of Les Bagnoles (4250–3800 cal bc) in the periphery of the southern Rhône valley yielded an unprecedented amount of waterlogged uncharred and charred plant macro remains that offer new insights into crop diversity and its changes over time. The results from the wells at Les Bagnoles were compared with other dated sunken features from open-air sites (in contrast to caves and rock shelters), with the aim of identifying patterns sug-gesting changes in the crop spectra between the early (MN1) and late (MN2) Middle Neolithic phases from taphonomically comparable contexts. The results from Les Bagnoles demonstrate that oil crops and pulses are underrepresented in dry sites and that they were a significant part of Middle Neolithic agriculture. They also indicate an increase in the representation of einkorn (instead of emmer) during MN2 that is also visible in other open-air sites. The comparison of the archaeobotani-cal results with silo storage capacity values as a proxy for average production capacity per household leads us to propose a possible drop in naked wheat productivity and opens new questions in factors affecting crop choice at the beginning of the 4th millennium cal bc

    We give a complete characterization of the classes of weight functions for which the higher rank Haar wavelet systems are unconditional bases in weighted norm Lebesgue spaces. Particulary it follows that higher rank Haar wavelets are unconditional bases in the weighted norm spaces with weights which have strong zeros at some points. This shows that the class of weight functions for which higher rank Haar wavelets are unconditional bases is much richer than it was supposed

    Review and comparison of effective delayed neutron fraction calculation methods with Monte Carlo codes

    The calculation of the effective delayed neutron fraction, beff , with Monte Carlo codes is a complex task due to the requirement of properly considering the adjoint weighting of delayed neutrons. Nevertheless, several techniques have been proposed to circumvent this difficulty and obtain accurate Monte Carlo results for beff without the need of explicitly determining the adjoint flux. In this paper, we make a review of some of these techniques; namely we have analyzed two variants of what we call the k-eigenvalue technique and other techniques based on different interpretations of the physical meaning of the adjoint weighting. To test the validity of all these techniques we have implemented them with the MCNPX code and we have benchmarked them against a range of critical and subcritical systems for which either experimental or deterministic values of beff are available. Furthermore, several nuclear data libraries have been used in order to assess the impact of the uncertainty in nuclear data in the calculated value of beff

    The response of Asterochloris erici (Ahmadjian) Skaloud et Peksa to desiccation: a proteomic approach

    18 p.The study of desiccation tolerance of lichens, and of their chlorobionts in particular, has frequently focused on the anti-oxidant system that protects the cell against photo-oxidative stress during dehydration/rehydration cycles. In this study, we used proteomic and transcript analyses to assess the changes associated with desiccation in the isolated phycobiont Aste-rochloris erici. Algae were dried either slowly (5?6 h) or rapidly (<60 min), and rehydrated after 24 h in the desiccated state. To identify proteins that accumulated during the drying or rehydration processes, we employed two-dimensional (2D) difference gel electrophoresis (DIGE) coupled with individual protein identi?cation using trypsin digestion and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Proteomic analyses revealed that desiccation caused an increase in relative abundance of only 11?13 proteins, regard-less of drying rate, involved in glycolysis, cellular protection, cytoskeleton, cell cycle, and targeting and degradation. Tran-scripts of ?ve Hsp90 and two b-tubulin genes accumulated primarily at the end of the dehydration process. In addition, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images indicate that ultrastructural cell injuries, perhaps resulting from physical or mechanical stress rather than metabolic damage, were more intense after rapid dehydration. This occurred with no major change in the proteome.
