    OP0291 TOFACITINIB FOR THE TREATMENT OF POLYARTICULAR COURSE JUVENILE IDIOPATHIC ARTHRITIS: RESULTS OF A PHASE 3, RANDOMISED, DOUBLE-BLIND, PLACEBO-CONTROLLED WITHDRAWAL STUDY

    Background:Tofacitinib is an oral JAK inhibitor that is being investigated for JIA.Objectives:To assess tofacitinib efficacy and safety in JIA patients (pts).Methods:This was a Phase 3, randomised, double-blind (DB), placebo (PBO)-controlled withdrawal study in pts aged 2−<18 years with polyarticular course JIA (pcJIA), PsA or ERA (NCT02592434). In the 18-week open-label Part 1, pts received weight-based tofacitinib doses (5 mg BID or lower). Pts with ≄JIA ACR30 response at Week (W)18 were randomised 1:1 in the DB Part 2 (W18−44) to continue tofacitinib or switch to PBO. Primary endpoint: disease flare rate by W44. Key secondary endpoints: JIA ACR50/30/70 response rates; change from Part 2 baseline (Δ) in CHAQ-DI at W44. Other efficacy endpoints: time to disease flare in Part 2; JADAS27-CRP in Parts 1 and 2. PsA/ERA pts were excluded from these efficacy analyses. Safety was evaluated in all pts up to W44.Results:225 enrolled pts with pcJIA (n=184), PsA (n=20) or ERA (n=21) received tofacitinib in Part 1. At W18, 173/225 (76.9%) pts entered Part 2 (pcJIA n=142, PsA n=15, ERA n=16). In pcJIA pts, disease flare rate in Part 2 was significantly lower with tofacitinib vs PBO by W44 (p=0.0031; Fig 1a). JIA ACR50/30/70 response rates (Fig 1b) and ΔCHAQ-DI (Fig 1c) at W44, and time to disease flare in Part 2 (Fig 2a), were improved with tofacitinib vs PBO. Tofacitinib reduced JADAS27-CRP in Part 1; this effect was sustained in Part 2 (Fig 2b). Overall, safety was similar with tofacitinib or PBO (Table): 77.3% and 74.1% had adverse events (AEs); 1.1% and 2.4% had serious AEs. In Part 1, 2 pts had herpes zoster (non-serious) and 3 pts had serious infections (SIs). In Part 2, SIs occurred in 1 tofacitinib pt and 1 PBO pt. No pts died.Conclusion:In pcJIA pts, tofacitinib vs PBO resulted in significantly fewer disease flares, and improved time to flare, disease activity and physical functioning.     Manipulating the Hype: contemporary art's response to media cliches

    Manipulating the Hype addresses art’s reaction to the barrage of signs produced by the media. The paper researches contemporary art’s response to clichĂ©d media stereotypes and elucidates artists’ multifaceted perspective on overtly obvious yet widely embraced paradigms marketed by the media. Contemporary art’s strategic reconfiguration of media stereotypes is a valuable introspection upon the superficiality and impracticability of advertising and entertainment industry constructs. By reconsidering the mediated image, art has the ability to inspire reevaluation of cultural values. The thesis additionally attempts to ascertain the reinterpretation of media stereotypes as a common thread linking principal art movements and historically significant artworks from around the world since 1960. How does contemporary art respond to the extensive cultural influence of the media? Is a reaction to mass media a thematic commonality linking contemporary artists in the age of globalization? Manipulating the Hype is a dual outcome investigation comprised of written thesis and studio practice. The written thesis combines experience from a lengthy professional practice with historical and theoretical research. The visual thesis consists of twelve photographic works taken at on the Big Island of Hawaii. The images juxtapose artificial icons of power from popular culture with the natural force of the active lava flow. The process of research discloses how the advertising and entertainment industries capitalize upon innate human desires through the manipulative proliferation of archetypal imagery. Furthermore, the thesis establishes the widespread retort to media clichĂ©s as a palpable commonality in studio practices worldwide. The findings in the research make evident that although contemporary art does not have sufficient influence to reform the media, it can heighten public awareness of media tactics

    Importing mosque pedagogy from Turkey: An analysis of contextual factors shaping re-contextualisation process in the Netherlands

    This article explores how mosque pedagogy was imported from Turkey through imams who were appointed to the Netherlands, and textbooks developed and printed in Turkey. Furthermore, this article examines how a range of contextual factors have reshaped the imported pedagogy in mosque classes. The factors identified in the analysis include language policies, the influence of pedagogical practices in mainstream Dutch schools, concerns about student motivation, and in the backdrop of fears of cultural alienation and assimilation in a Western context, the imperative of nurturing an Islamic and Turkish identity among ethnic minority children. This paper is based on a case study in a Turkish mosque in the Netherlands. The findings demonstrate how a myriad of individual, societal, cultural and institutional factors reshaped imported pedagogy. At the same time, this paper highlights how mosque pedagogy is not only an educational matter but increasingly immersed within competing societal and political agendas of two states

    What are children being taught in the mosque?: Turkish mosque education in the Netherlands

    Mosque education in Western countries has been a source of anxiety and speculations in the public debates about youth radicalization and the teaching practices of foreign imams. This re-search aims to contribute to this understudied field by presenting findings on the organization, objective of provision, learning goals, and curriculum content of mosque education provided by the largest Turkish Islamic communities in the Netherlands: Diyanet, Milli GörĂŒĆŸ, and SĂŒleymanlıs.The analysis is based on a diverse data: fieldwork notes, classroom observations at two of the mosques, interviews with imams, hocas (mosque teachers), and key stake-holders. The findings indicate that there is to a great extent overlap between objectives and the curriculum content of the mosque classes. The respondents underline the importance of teaching the children the five pillars of Islam,the life and teachings of the prophet Mohammad, and Islamic rules of behavioral conduct so that they learn “how to be a good Muslim”. However, besides providing education,mosque classes in all communities also aim at Islamic and Turkish identity building and advancement of the Turkish language skills of the students. The research discusses the implications of the findings and offers potential directions for future research

    Magnetic, dielectric and microwave properties of M-Ti substituted barium hexaferrites (M=Mn2+, Co2+, Cu2+, Ni2+, Zn2+)

    Several divalent cations together with tetravalent Ti4+ ion were replaced by two trivalent Fe3+ ions of barium hexaferrite in the form of BaFe10M2+Ti4+O19. Samples were prepared by using solid state reaction route and 1 wt% B2O3 was added to inhibit the crystal growth at lower temperatures. Magnetic, dielectric and microwave properties of samples were investigated by X-ray crystallography, scanning electron microscopy, magnetization and near field microwave measurements. Magnetization measurements revealed that saturation magnetization of the cation substituted samples is less than that of the pure barium hexaferrite. Except Co2+ substituted barium hexaferrite, coercivities of the samples are nearly 1 kOe. While measurement of dielectric constants of Zn2+, Mn2+, Co2+ and Cu2+ substituted samples yields a significant enhancement ( approximate to 10-10(2) times) with respect to Ni2+ substituted barium hexaferrite in permittivity through local polarization of Fe3+ electronic charges activated with nearby divalent ions. It is suggested that Zn2+ and Mn2+ substitution acts to reduce the electron hopping probability between Fe2+ and Fe3+. All samples have approximately the same microwave absorption properties in such a way that minimum reflection loss (RL) of -10 dB occurs at 15 GHz. Meanwhile, Zn2+ and Mn2+ substituted samples have quite wide absorption bandwidths of 4 GHz at - 10 dB. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd and Techna Group S.r.l. All rights reserved

    Turkish-Dutch mosque students negotiating identities and belonging in the Netherlands

    For Muslim communities in the West, teaching Islam to children in mosques is an important part of the intergenerational maintenance of young people’s heritage, identity, and communal ties. However, children with a migrant background benefit from fostering identification and feelings of belonging both to their heritage community and to the majority society. This study seeks to understand the negotiation of sense of belonging and self-identification as Turkish, Dutch, and Muslim, in a sample of mosque students in The Netherlands (N = 29). It is based on interviews conducted with Turkish-Dutch students (ages 6–16) during fieldwork in the mosques between March and December 2017. The study reveals that most respondents identify as Dutch-Turkish and have a stronger sense of belonging to The Netherlands than to Turkey. Nevertheless, there is also a group of mosque students who struggle with growing up between two cultures. Furthermore, the analyses of the mosque student’s perspectives show that they are negotiating a space for the possibility of identifying as Muslim and feeling a sense of belonging to The Netherlands without feeling Dutch. The study concludes by discussing a number of key issues arising from the findings, namely the role of the mosque context, the development of reactive identity, and the meaning attribution by the students
