Accurate and simple method for quantification of hepatic fat content using magnetic resonance imaging: a prospective study in biopsy-proven nonalcoholic fatty liver disease
To assess the degree of hepatic fat content, simple and noninvasive methods with high objectivity and reproducibility are required. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is one such candidate, although its accuracy remains unclear. We aimed to validate an MRI method for quantifying hepatic fat content by calibrating MRI reading with a phantom and comparing MRI measurements in human subjects with estimates of liver fat content in liver biopsy specimens. The MRI method was performed by a combination of MRI calibration using a phantom and double-echo chemical shift gradient-echo sequence (double-echo fast low-angle shot sequence) that has been widely used on a 1.5-T scanner. Liver fat content in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD, n = 26) was derived from a calibration curve generated by scanning the phantom. Liver fat was also estimated by optical image analysis. The correlation between the MRI measurements and liver histology findings was examined prospectively. Magnetic resonance imaging measurements showed a strong correlation with liver fat content estimated from the results of light microscopic examination (correlation coefficient 0.91, P < 0.001) regardless of the degree of hepatic steatosis. Moreover, the severity of lobular inflammation or fibrosis did not influence the MRI measurements. This MRI method is simple and noninvasive, has excellent ability to quantify hepatic fat content even in NAFLD patients with mild steatosis or advanced fibrosis, and can be performed easily without special devices.ArticleJOURNAL OF GASTROENTEROLOGY. 45(12):1263-1271 (2010)journal articl
First Data Release of the Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program
The Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program (HSC-SSP) is a three-layered
imaging survey aimed at addressing some of the most outstanding questions in
astronomy today, including the nature of dark matter and dark energy. The
survey has been awarded 300 nights of observing time at the Subaru Telescope
and it started in March 2014. This paper presents the first public data release
of HSC-SSP. This release includes data taken in the first 1.7 years of
observations (61.5 nights) and each of the Wide, Deep, and UltraDeep layers
covers about 108, 26, and 4 square degrees down to depths of i~26.4, ~26.5, and
~27.0 mag, respectively (5sigma for point sources). All the layers are observed
in five broad bands (grizy), and the Deep and UltraDeep layers are observed in
narrow bands as well. We achieve an impressive image quality of 0.6 arcsec in
the i-band in the Wide layer. We show that we achieve 1-2 per cent PSF
photometry (rms) both internally and externally (against Pan-STARRS1), and ~10
mas and 40 mas internal and external astrometric accuracy, respectively. Both
the calibrated images and catalogs are made available to the community through
dedicated user interfaces and database servers. In addition to the pipeline
products, we also provide value-added products such as photometric redshifts
and a collection of public spectroscopic redshifts. Detailed descriptions of
all the data can be found online. The data release website is

Hyper Suprime-Cam Year 3 Results: Cosmology from Cosmic Shear Two-point Correlation Functions
We perform a blinded cosmology analysis with cosmic shear two-point
correlation functions (2PCFs) measured from more than 25 million galaxies in
the Hyper Suprime-Cam three-year shear catalog in four tomographic redshift
bins ranging from 0.3 to 1.5. After conservative masking and galaxy selection,
the survey covers 416 deg of the northern sky with an effective galaxy
number density of 15 arcmin over the four redshift bins. The 2PCFs
adopted for cosmology analysis are measured in the angular range: for and
for , with a total signal-to-noise ratio of 26.6. We apply a
conservative, wide, flat prior on the photometric redshift errors on the last
two tomographic bins, and the relative magnitudes of the cosmic shear amplitude
across four redshift bins allow us to calibrate the photometric redshift
errors. With this flat prior on redshift errors, we find and (both 68\% CI) for a flat cold dark
matter cosmology. We find, after unblinding, that our constraint on is
consistent with the Fourier space cosmic shear and the 32pt analyses on
the same HSC dataset. We carefully study the potential systematics from
astrophysical and systematic model uncertainties in our fiducial analysis using
synthetic data, and report no biases (including projection bias in the
posterior space) greater than in the estimation of . Our
analysis hints that the mean redshifts of the two highest tomographic bins are
higher than initially estimated. In addition, a number of consistency tests are
conducted to assess the robustness of our analysis. Comparing our result with
Planck-2018 cosmic microwave background observations, we find a ~
tension for the CDM model.Comment: 38 pages, 32 figures, 4 tables (PRD in press.

Hyper Suprime-Cam Year 3 results: Cosmology from cosmic shear two-point correlation functions
We perform a blinded cosmology analysis with cosmic shear two-point correlation functions measured from more than 25 million galaxies in the Hyper Suprime-Cam three-year shear catalog in four tomographic redshift bins ranging from 0.3 to 1.5. After conservative masking and galaxy selection, the survey covers 416 deg2 of the northern sky with an effective galaxy number density of 15 arcmin-2 over the four redshift bins. The 2PCFs adopted for cosmology analysis are measured in the angular range; 7.1<θ/arcmin<56.6 for ζ+ and 31.2<θ/arcmin<248 for ζ-, with a total signal-to-noise ratio of 26.6. We apply a conservative, wide, flat prior on the photometric redshift errors on the last two tomographic bins, and the relative magnitudes of the cosmic shear amplitude across four redshift bins allow us to calibrate the photometric redshift errors. With this flat prior on redshift errors, we find ωm=0.256-0.044+0.056 and S8σ8ωm/0.3=0.769-0.034+0.031 (both 68% C.I.) for a flat Λ cold dark matter cosmology. We find, after unblinding, that our constraint on S8 is consistent with the Fourier space cosmic shear and the 3×2 pt analyses on the same HSC dataset. We carefully study the potential systematics from astrophysical and systematic model uncertainties in our fiducial analysis using synthetic data, and report no biases (including projection bias in the posterior space) greater than 0.5σ in the estimation of S8. Our analysis hints that the mean redshifts of the two highest tomographic bins are higher than initially estimated. In addition, a number of consistency tests are conducted to assess the robustness of our analysis. Comparing our result with Planck-2018 cosmic microwave background observations, we find a ∼2σ tension for the ΛCDM model

The Hyper Suprime-Cam SSP survey: Overview and survey design
Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) is a wide-field imaging camera on the prime focus of the 8.2-m Subaru telescope on the summit of Mauna Kea in Hawaii. A team of scientists from Japan, Taiwan, and Princeton University is using HSC to carry out a 300-night multi-band imaging survey of the high-latitude sky. The survey includes three layers: the Wide layer will cover 1400 deg2 in five broad bands (grizy), with a 5 σ point-source depth of r ≈ 26. The Deep layer covers a total of 26 deg2 in four fields, going roughly a magnitude fainter, while the UltraDeep layer goes almost a magnitude fainter still in two pointings of HSC (a total of 3.5 deg2). Here we describe the instrument, the science goals of the survey, and the survey strategy and data processing. This paper serves as an introduction to a special issue of the Publications of the Astronomical Society of Japan, which includes a large number of technical and scientific papers describing results from the early phases of this survey
Web-based Archiving of Parallel and Comparable Documents for Online Translators
This paper introduces a Web-based system that archives parallel and comparable online documents. The system, QRpac, is specifically designed to meet the requirements of online volunteer translators who need to refer to relevant translation document pairs as well as comparable document sets. While many systems have been proposed so far to construct parallel and/or comparable corpora from the web, there have been none that directly respond to online translators'needs. The system is currently fully operational, and operates in a seamless manner upon request by the user. This paper puts emphasis on the context within which the system is required, designed, and used, which we believe is essential and more important than "rote" evaluations.
54. Mechanical unfolding process of single collapsed DNA(poster presentation,Soft Matter as Structured Materials)

The effect of low-intensity exercise on emotional and cognitive engagement in the classroom
This study examined whether engaging in physical exercise during a university class would have beneficial effect on students’ learning motivation. One hundred and forty-nine participants took part in a psychology class over nine weeks (one lesson per week); for each lesson, participants engaged in a three-minute physical activity (low-intensity aerobic exercise) or control activity (watching a video), about 20 min after the lesson started. Participants reported higher vigour and lower fatigue during the class when they exercised than when they engaged in control activities. These findings suggest the utility of incorporating a short exercise activity in university settings to enhance students’ classroom motivation
