Speech Separation Using Partially Asynchronous Microphone Arrays Without Resampling
We consider the problem of separating speech sources captured by multiple
spatially separated devices, each of which has multiple microphones and samples
its signals at a slightly different rate. Most asynchronous array processing
methods rely on sample rate offset estimation and resampling, but these offsets
can be difficult to estimate if the sources or microphones are moving. We
propose a source separation method that does not require offset estimation or
signal resampling. Instead, we divide the distributed array into several
synchronous subarrays. All arrays are used jointly to estimate the time-varying
signal statistics, and those statistics are used to design separate
time-varying spatial filters in each array. We demonstrate the method for
speech mixtures recorded on both stationary and moving microphone arrays.Comment: To appear at the International Workshop on Acoustic Signal

Acoustic Impulse Responses for Wearable Audio Devices
We present an open-access dataset of over 8000 acoustic impulse from 160
microphones spread across the body and affixed to wearable accessories. The
data can be used to evaluate audio capture and array processing systems using
wearable devices such as hearing aids, headphones, eyeglasses, jewelry, and
clothing. We analyze the acoustic transfer functions of different parts of the
body, measure the effects of clothing worn over microphones, compare
measurements from a live human subject to those from a mannequin, and simulate
the noise-reduction performance of several beamformers. The results suggest
that arrays of microphones spread across the body are more effective than those

A Review of the Operational Use of UAS in Public Safety Emergency Incidents
The domain of public safety in the form of search \& rescue, wildland
firefighting, structure firefighting, and law enforcement operations have drawn
great interest in the field of aerospace engineering, human-robot teaming,
autonomous systems, and robotics. However, a divergence exists in the
assumptions made in research and how state-of-the-art technologies may
realistically transition into an operational capacity. To aid in the alignment
between researchers, technologists, and end users, we aim to provide
perspective on how small Uncrewed Aerial Systems (sUAS) have been applied in
114 real world incidents as part of a technical rescue team from 2016 to 2021.
We highlight the main applications, integration, tasks, and challenges of
employing UAS within five primary use cases including searches, evidence
collection, SWAT, wildland firefighting, and structure firefighting. Within
these use cases, key incidents are featured that provide perspective on the
evolving and dynamic nature of UAS tasking during an operation. Finally, we
highlight key technical directions for improving the utilization and efficiency

Perceived coach autonomy support, basic need satisfaction and the well- and ill-being of elite youth soccer players: A longitudinal investigation
Objectives: Drawing from the Basic Needs Theory [BNT; Ryan, R. M., & Deci, E. L. (2002). An overview of self-determination theory. In E. L. Deci & R. M. Ryan (Eds.), Handbook of self-determination research (pp. 3-33). Rochester, NY: University of Rochester Press], the major purpose of the present study was to test a hypothesized sequence of temporal relationships between perceptions of coach autonomy support, basic need satisfaction and indices of well- and ill-being. A subsidiary aim was to ascertain the assumed mediational role of basic need satisfaction in explicating the perceived autonomy support and well-/ill-being relationships over time.\ud

Method: Participants (N = 54 males) from an elite youth soccer academy in the UK completed a multi-section questionnaire tapping the targeted variables on six occasions across two competitive seasons.\ud

Results: Multi-level regression analyses revealed that perceptions of coach autonomy support positively predicted within-person changes and between-person mean differences in basic need satisfaction and well-being over time. \ud

Satisfaction scores for the needs for competence and relatedness were found to predict within-person changes in subjective vitality. These same needs partially mediated the coach autonomy support-subjective vitality link over the two seasons.\ud

Conclusions: The findings partially support the tenets of BNT, and are discussed in terms of their practical application to participants involved in an elite youth sport setting. \u
