Resonance saturation of the chiral couplings at NLO in 1/Nc
The precision obtainable in phenomenological applications of Chiral
Perturbation Theory is currently limited by our lack of knowledge on the
low-energy constants (LECs). The assumption that the most important
contributions to the LECs come from the dynamics of the low-lying resonances,
often referred to as the resonance saturation hypothesis, has stimulated the
use of large-Nc resonance lagrangians in order to obtain explicit values for
the LECs. We study the validity of the resonance saturation assumption at the
next-to-leading order in the 1/Nc expansion within the framework of Resonance
Chiral Theory (RChT). We find that, by imposing QCD short-distance constraints,
the chiral couplings can be written in terms of the resonance masses and
couplings and do not depend explicitly on the coefficients of the chiral
operators in the Goldstone boson sector of RChT. As we argue, this is the
counterpart formulation of the resonance saturation statement in the context of
the resonance lagrangian. Going beyond leading order in the 1/Nc counting allow
us to keep full control of the renormalization scale dependence of the LEC

A 1973-2008 archive of climate surfaces for NW Maghreb
Climate archives are time series. They are used to assess temporal trends of a climate-dependent target variable, and to make climate atlases. A high-resolution gridded dataset with 1728 layers of monthly mean maximum, mean and mean minimum temperatures and precipitation for the NW Maghreb (28ºN-37.3ºN, 12ºW-12ºE, 1-km resolution) from 1973 through 2008 is presented. The surfaces were spatially interpolated by ANUSPLIN, a thin-plate smoothing spline technique approved by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), from georeferenced climate records drawn from the Global Surface Summary of the Day (GSOD) and the Global Historical Climatology Network-Monthly (GHCN-Monthly version 3) products. Absolute errors for surface temperatures are approximately 0.5ºC for mean and mean minimum temperatures, and peak up to 1.76ºC for mean maximum temperatures in summer months. For precipitation, the mean absolute error ranged from 1.2 to 2.5 mm, but very low summer precipitation caused relative errors of up to 40% in July. The archive successfully captures climate variations associated with large to medium geographic gradients. This includes the main aridity gradient which increases in the S and SE, as well as its breaking points, marked by the Atlas mountain range. Observational - relation for Sct stars using eclipsing binaries and space photometry
Delta Scuti ( Sct) stars are intermediate-mass pulsators, whose
intrinsic oscillations have been studied for decades. However, modelling their
pulsations remains a real theoretical challenge, thereby even hampering the
precise determination of global stellar parameters. In this work, we used space
photometry observations of eclipsing binaries with a Sct component to
obtain reliable physical parameters and oscillation frequencies. Using that
information, we derived an observational scaling relation between the stellar
mean density and a frequency pattern in the oscillation spectrum. This pattern
is analogous to the solar-like large separation but in the low order regime. We
also show that this relation is independent of the rotation rate. These
findings open the possibility of accurately characterizing this type of
pulsator and validate the frequency pattern as a new observable for

Predictor variables of the perception of success: Differential aspects in route runners
Se pretendía conocer qué relaciones predictivas presentaban la
motivación, el compromiso a correr, la adicción negativa a correr y la ansiedad
precompetitiva, sobre la percepción del éxito en una amplia muestra de 1795
corredores de fondo en ruta (1105 españoles, 690 mexicanos). De ellos el
85.65% fueron hombres con una edad de M=38.98 (DT=10.45), y 14.35%
mujeres, con una edad M=37.88 (DT=9.80). La recogida de datos se llevó a cabo
mediante las adaptaciones al castellano del Perception of Success
Questionnaire (POSQ), Motivations of Marathoners Scales-34 (MOMS-34),
Commitment to Running Scale-11 (CR-11) y Revised Competitive State Anxiety
Inventory-2 (CSAI-2R). Se obtuvo que los valores en las orientaciones de meta
de los corredores son medios y similares, aunque significativamente mayores en
la muestra mexicana, debido a su mayor compromiso y motivaciones, así como
a las diferencias culturales entre ambas nacionalidades. Los modelos predictores
de la percepción del éxito obtenidos resultaron muy similares por nacionalidades,
pero diferenciados por sexos, obteniendo altas varianzas explicativasWe pretended to find out which predictive relationships would be introduced by
motivation, commitment to run, negative addiction to run and pre-competition
anxiety, concerning the winning perception of a broad sample of 1795 track
long-distance runners (1105 Spanish, 690 Mexicans). Of them, 85.65% were
men, ages M=37.88 (SD=10.45) and 14.35% were women, ages M=37.88
(SD=9.80). The data was obtained by adapting to Spanish the following:
“Perception of Success Questionnaire” (POSQ), “Motivations of Marathoners
Scales-34 (MOMS-34), Commitment to Running Scale-11 (CR-11) and Revised
Competitive State Anxiety Inventory-2 (CSAI-2R). The values obtained on the
winning orientations of the runners were average and similar, although
significantly higher in the Mexican sample, due to their higher commitment and
motivation, as well as the cultural differences between these nationalities. The
predicting models of the success perception obtained were very similar by
nationality, but differentiated by sex, obtaining high explicatory variance
The European Union can afford greater ambition in the conservation of its threatened plants
The importance of Natura 2000 network for the conservation of natural habitats, wild flora and fauna at European level is undeniable. However, it may not have reached its full potential since the loss of biodiversity continues to increase year on year. Further on, a third of the plant species listed in the Habitats Directive to guide the declaration of European Union Natura 2000 network of protected areas is not threatened and there is broad agreement on the need to review and update the species list. Here, the effectiveness of Natura 2000 in the conservation of Spanish bryophytes and vascular plants included in the Habitats Directive Annex II is analysed and compared with the one offered to the species included in the Spanish Red Lists. Results show a remarkable coverage of Natura 2000 over the distribution areas of threatened species, thus providing an umbrella effect on these taxa. It confirms that the number of plant species in the Habitats Directive could be significantly extended without altering the current configuration of the network. This would allow the incorporation of scientific advances produced since the Habitats Directive was approved almost 30 years ago, and will contribute to the goals of the new European Biodiversity Strategy for 2030, such as to consider impacts caused by alien species, land use or climate changesThe Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and

Summability of the perturbative expansion for a zero-dimensional disordered spin model
We show analytically that the perturbative expansion for the free energy of
the zero dimensional (quenched) disordered Ising model is Borel-summable in a
certain range of parameters, provided that the summation is carried out in two
steps: first, in the strength of the original coupling of the Ising model and
subsequently in the variance of the quenched disorder. This result is
illustrated by some high-precision calculations of the free energy obtained by
a straightforward numerical implementation of our sequential summation method.Comment: LaTeX, 12 pages and 4 figure
A peculiar new Pampatheriidae (Mammalia: Xenarthra: Cingulata) from the Pleistocene of Argentina and comments on Pampatheriidae diversity
Pampatheriidae are a group of cingulates native to South American that are known from the middle Miocene to the lower Holocene. Two genera have been recognized between the lower Pleistocene and the lower Holocene: Pampatherium Gervais and Ameghino (Ensenadan, Bonaerian and Lujanian, lower Pleistocene-lower Holocene) and Holmesina Simpson (Blancan, Irvingtonian, upper Pliocene-lower Holocene). They have been mainly differentiated by their osteoderm morphology and cranio-dental characters. These taxa had a wide latitudinal distribution, extending from the southern part of South America (Península Valdés, Argentina) to North America (Florida, USA). In this contribution, we describe a new genus and species of Pampatheriidae for the lower and middle Pleistocene of Buenos Aires Province and for the upper Pleistocene of Santa Fe Province (Argentina).The new taxon is represented by disarticulated osteoderms, one skull element, two thoracic vertebrae and a right femur and patella. It has extremely complex osteoderm ornamentations and particular morphological characters of the cranial element and femur that are not found in any other species of the family. This new taxon, recorded in the lower-middle Pleistocene (Ensenadan Stage/Age) and in the upper Pleistocene-early Holocene (Lujanian Stage/Age), is incorporated to the Pleistocene mammal assemblage of South America. Study of the phase transition in the 3d Ising spin glass from out of equilibrium numerical simulations
Using the decay of the out equilibrium spin-spin correlation function we
compute the equilibrium Edward-Anderson order parameter in the three
dimensional binary Ising spin glass in the spin glass phase. We have checked
that the Edward-Anderson order parameter computed from out of equilibrium
numerical simulations follows with good precision the critical law as
determined in experiments and in numerical studies at equilibrium. We have also
studied the dependence of the order parameter with the lattice size. Finally we
present a large time study of the scaling of the off-equilibrium
