A simheuristic for routing electric vehicles with limited driving ranges and stochastic travel times

    Get PDF
Green transportation is becoming relevant in the context of smart cities, where the use of electric vehicles represents a promising strategy to support sustainability policies. However the use of electric vehicles shows some drawbacks as well, such as their limited driving-range capacity. This paper analyses a realistic vehicle routing problem in which both driving-range constraints and stochastic travel times are considered. Thus, the main goal is to minimize the expected time-based cost required to complete the freight distribution plan. In order to design reliable Routing plans, a simheuristic algorithm is proposed. It combines Monte Carlo simulation with a multi-start metaheuristic, which also employs biased-randomization techniques. By including simulation, simheuristics extend the capabilities of metaheuristics to deal with stochastic problems. A series of computational experiments are performed to test our solving approach as well as to analyse the effect of uncertainty on the routing plans.Peer Reviewe

Trajectory-dependent energy loss for swift He atoms axially scattered off a silver surface

    Get PDF
Angle- and energy-loss- resolved distributions of helium atoms grazingly scattered from a Ag(110) surface along low indexed crystallographic directions are investigated considering impact energies in the few keV range. Final projectile distributions are evaluated within a semi-classical formalism that includes dissipative effects due to electron-hole excitations through a friction force. For mono-energetic beams impinging along the [11ˉ0][1\bar{1}0], [11ˉ2][1\bar{1}2] and [11ˉ0][1\bar{1}0] directions, the model predicts the presence of multiple peak structures in energy-loss spectra. Such structures provide detailed information about the trajectory-dependent energy loss. However, when the experimental dispersion of the incident beam is taken into account, these energy-loss peaks are completely washed out, giving rise to a smooth energy-loss distribution, in fairly good agreement with available experimental data

Uncertainty model for rate of change of frequency analysis with high renewable energy participation

    Get PDF
Large-scale integration of inverter-based renewables is displacing synchronous machine generation, causing a reduction in the inertia of electrical power systems. This reduction is reflected in an increase in the rate of change of frequency (RoCoF). Additionally, the variation of the RoCoF will depend on the uncertainty associated with the generation of non-conventional renewable energy sources. For the planning of the operation of the system, it is essential to know the range of variation of the RoCoF when there are disturbances in the system and uncertainties in the generation of non-conventional sources of renewable energy. This paper proposes to establish the calculation of a confidence interval of the RoCoF variation that considers these uncertainties. So, this paper proposes a method to consider these uncertainties based on the probabilistic point estimate method (PEM); considering multiple renewable non-conventional sources with correlated or uncorrelated behavior in their powers injected into the system. On the other hand, as there are different proposals to calculate the RoCoF, this paper presents the application of the uncertainty model with three different RoCoF proposed calculation methods

The present paper is an approach to Jean Paul Sartre's work. The article defends that the Action Theory of this author it's inseparable from a Moral Theory, therefore a responsible action is one that recognizes and care for others. The text begins by providing an overwiew of certain concepts of Sartre's existentialist philosophy that are fundamental to understand the magnitude and scope of the proposal; then a critical reading of some passages in Sartre's work it's presented to supports the thesis.El presente texto es una aproximación a la obra de Jean Paul Sartre. El artículo defiende que la teoría de la acción de este autor es indisociable de una teoría moral, según la cual una acción responsable es aquella que reconoce y cuida del prójimo. Requirements for artificial muscles to design robotic fingers

    Get PDF
International audienceThis work is part of the ProMain project that concerns the modeling and the design of a soft robotic hand prosthesis, actuated by artificial muscles and controlled with surface Electromyography (EMG) signals. In a first stage, we designed a robotic finger based on the equivalent mechanical model of the human finger. The model takes into account three phalangeal joints, flexion and extension movements are studied. The robotic finger has three Degrees of Freedom (DoF). The finger is designed to be under-actuated and driven by tendons, i.e. only one servo motor actu-ates the whole finger, and the motor is coupled to the finger mechanism through two flexible wires. As the aim is to design a robotic hand prosthesis that uses artificial muscles, we propose and carry out two experiments to characterize the specifications of the actuator. The first experiment measures the pinch force of the human finger, and the second measures the achieved force using our robotic finger and five different servo motors. It allows us to enhance experimental results with the mathematical model of the finger, to identify the requirements of the artificial muscle
