An evaluation of the fatigue crack growth and fracture toughness properties of beryllium-copper alloy CDA172

    Get PDF
A series of fracture mechanics tests, using the Be-Cu alloy CDA172 in the round rod product form, was conducted in a lab air environment at room temperature. Tensile data is presented in both the L and C directions and K sub Ic data in both the C-R and C-L orientations. Fracture toughness values were derived from M(T) (center cracked), PS(T) (surface cracked) and CC01 (corner cracked) specimens of varying thickness. Fatigue crack growth data were obtained for the C-R orientation at stress ratio of 0.1, 0.4, and 0.7 and for the C-L orientation at stress ratios of 0.1, 0.3, 0.4, and 0.7

Medication administration by non-registered nursing personnel : a safe and cost effective way to reduce the shortage of registered nurses

The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the efficacy of, and necessity for, assigning the technical tasks of medication administration to non-Registered Nursing (non-RN) personnel in light of the continuing Registered Nurse (RN) shortage in the acute care setting and our rapidly changing and financially unstable health care environment

The role of surface generated radicals in catalytic combustion

    Get PDF
Experiments were conducted to better understand the role of catalytic surface reactions in determining the ignition characteristics of practical catalytic combustors. Hydrocarbon concentrations, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide concentrations, hydroxyl radical concentrations, and gas temperature were measured at the exit of a platinum coated, stacked plate, catalytic combustor during the ignition of lean propane-air mixtures. The substrate temperature profile was also measured during the ignition transient. Ignition was initiated by suddenly turning on the fuel and the time to reach steady state was of the order of 10 minutes. The gas phase reaction, showed no pronounced effect due to the catalytic surface reactions, except the absence of a hydroxyl radical overshoot. It is found that the transient ignition measurements are valuable in understanding the steady state performance characteristics

Three Miles Per Hour: Shifting from Performance to Heart Orientation among Seventh-day Adventist Pastors

This thesis examines the presence and impact of performance orientation among Seventh-day Adventist pastors. It identifies multiple factors involved in perpetuating performance orientation and includes strategies to shift from performance to heart orientation in life and pastoral ministry. Using a mixed-method design, this research collected qualitative data via focus groups and quantitative data via an online survey. There was a total of eight focus groups with thirty-three participants, and the online survey gathered fifty-one responses. Focus group participants and survey respondents included both men and women from North America who were ethnically diverse. The research revealed significant concerns regarding pastoral health and well-being in the areas of God, self, family, and friends. One notable finding was the problem of poor differentiation, which is a key factor perpetuating performance orientation. The primary strategies identified in this research through which a pastor may shift toward heart orientation fit into the following three strategy sets: The first strategy set is proactive measures and are the responsibility of the pastor. It includes a strategy for spiritual growth, leveraging the concept of the generalized other, setting healthier boundaries, positive habit formation, and dialogue with local church leaders; the second strategy set adopts organizational health as a new metric for pastoral ministry; and the third strategy set involves five recommendations for how Seventh-day Adventist Church conferences—the employing organizations for Seventh-day Adventist pastors—can foster heart orientation environments for pastors. If the principles and recommendations identified in this study are followed by pastors and conferences, the Bible makes it clear that pastors, their families, and local churches will abundantly prosper, and this research helps to corroborate this
