Interaction gestuelle Ă  une main avec un smartphone : retours utilisateurs et application aux picophones

    Get PDF
This paper presents a one-handed gesture command for the interaction with a picophone and any mobile device. We present an algorithm of 3D gesture recognition based on the filtering of accelerometer data. An experiment is detailed which shown the robustness of the gesture detection as well as the interest of such a one-handed command. At last, we report an application of this work with a picophone

Biofiltration of high concentration of H2S in waste air under extreme acidic conditions

International audienceRemoval of high concentrations of hydrogen sulfide using a biofilter packed with expanded schist under extreme acidic conditions was performed. The impact of various parameters such as H2S concentration, pH changes and sulfate accumulation on the performances of the process was evaluated. Elimination efficiency decreased when the pH was lower than 1 and the sulfate accumulation was more than 12 mg S-SO42-/g dry media, due to a continuous overloading by high H2S concentrations. The influence of these parameters on the degradation of H2S was clearly underlined, showing the need for their control, performed through an increase of watering flow rate. A maximum elimination capacity (ECmax) of 24.7 g m−3 h−1 was recorded. As a result, expanded schist represents an interesting packing material to remove high H2S concentration up to 360 ppmv with low pressure drops. In addition, experimental data were fitted using both Michaelis–Menten and Haldane models, showing that the Haldane model described more accurately experimental data since the inhibitory effect of H2S was taken into accoun

Technical management of French harbour structures - Part 2: Current practices, needs: Experience feedback of owners

    No full text
International audienceThe French harbour system has an essential role: on the one hand for French business, tourism and industry; and on the other hand for European defence. Consequently, maintenance of harbour assets is a stake of major importance. This paper focuses on the analysis of actual maintenance practices, associated constraints, but also capacities to fulfil maintenance programs of the built assets of French harbour owners. The needs in risk management and control are also highlighted. The results are presented by focusing the analysis on observed levels of heterogeneity

What you draw is what you search: the analog gesture

International audienceThis paper presents a new type of gesture for identifying spatio-temporal patterns: the analog gesture. Analog gestures can be characterized by some features (speed, acceleration, direction, and angle) which describe the dynamic morphology of the gesture. At first, we detail interactive tasks that should benefit for the use of analog gestures. Then we give a state of the art concerning gesture recognition and investigate the specificity and the main properties of the analog gesture. Then, we propose a review of the surveillance maritime system called Hyperion which uses analog gestures. Finally, we give an example of the use of this type of gesture by the operator. It concerns the interactive detection of ship abnormal trajectories in the context of maritime surveillance

Mechanical characterization of a polysiloxane-derived SiOC glass

    No full text
Silicon oxycarbide glass with the composition Si1.0O1.6C0.8 was synthesized from a commercial polysiloxane by polymer pyrolysis. Dense SiOC samples were obtained by cross linking of the polysiloxane followed by warm pressing to form cylindrical samples and subsequent pyrolysis of the shaped polymer at 1100 °C in Ar. Hardness (H), Young's modulus (E) and Poisson's ratio (Îœ) of the as-prepared SiOC glass were evaluated from indentation studies and from acoustic microscopy. Indentation studies showed that E depends on the applied load and amounts to 90 GPa for low load and to 180 GPa for high load. Average values of 6.4 and 101 GPa were obtained for H and E, respectively, by the Vickers indentation method. Acoustic microscopy analysis yielded values of 96 GPa and 0.11 for E and Îœ, respectively. Compared to vitreous silica, the Young's modulus of the SiOC glass is about 1.3–1.5 times higher. To the knowledge of the present authors, the measured Poisson's ratio (Îœ = 0.11) is the lowest reported so far for glasses and polycrystalline ceramics
