Teachers’ Attitudes, Beliefs, and Confidence Levels and Technology Integration in Urban Schools

Many K–12 schools do not exploit the advantages of technology, despite the influx of equipment that can enhance pedagogy and student success. A gap exists in the literature about the extent to which urban teachers’ perceptions influence technology use in the classroom. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the ABCs of K–12 teachers regarding technology integration in their classrooms. Rogers’ diffusion of innovation theory and the technological pedagogical content knowledge model were the frameworks for this study. The research questions examined teachers’ intrinsic factors that impact the integration of technology in the urban classroom and the perceptions of principals who serve as administrators at urban schools. This single case study examined the impact of technology integration through the perspectives of urban teachers and administrators. The purposeful samples included K–12 teachers and principals. Qualitative data were collected from 6 teachers via interviews, 4 principals via a focus group, and artifacts. The data analysis was based on the organization of participant responses and the development of categories and themes. Key results showed that urban teachers accept and value technology as a pedagogical tool, but the lack of up-to date equipment stalls the use of technology for learning activities in the classroom. The implications for positive social change are overarching and could benefit urban educators by identifying factors that impede technology integration at their schools and serve as the foundation for best practices and pedagogical strategies to reduce and overcome these barriers

System for generating timing and control signals

A system capable of generating every possible data frame subperiod and delayed subperiod of a data frame of length of M clock pulse intervals (CPIs) comprised of parallel modulo-m sub i counters is presented. Each m sub i is a prime power divisor of M and a cascade of alpha sub i identical modulo-p sub i counters. The modulo-p sub i counters are feedback shift registers which cycle through p sub i distinct states. Every possible nontrivial data frame subperiod and delayed subperiod is derived and a specific CPI in the data frame is detected. The number of clock pulses required to bring every modulo-p sub i counter to a respective designated state or count is determined by the Chinese remainder theorem. This corresponds to the solution of simultaneous congruences over relatively prime moduli

The Diversity of Life by E.O. Wilson

In The Diversity of Life, E. O. Wilson tells a tale about how our earth is on track for another extinction event and humans are at fault. Wilson discusses various topics such as environmental preservation, biodiversity and its importance, and how life has evolved over time. Wilson views biodiversity differently than many as he focuses on all species found in the ecosystem rather than narrowing his focus on one. He mentions how new species can be created by groups evolving and developing new skills or existing in new environments. Species are going extinct and being created constantly; these extinctions don\u27t have to be large; they can exist on small scales yet still cause an impact on the entire ecosystem. Wilson goes on to explain that humans have existed for a small period of time yet we are the number one cause of extinction events within species. Ultimately, humans will be the cause of our own downfall as the environment is a reflection and product of human actions.https://scholarworks.moreheadstate.edu/celebration_posters_2023/1008/thumbnail.jp

Randomized, Phase II Trial of Pemetrexed and Carboplatin with or without Enzastaurin versus Docetaxel and Carboplatin as First-Line Treatment of Patients with Stage IIIB/IV Non-small Cell Lung Cancer

Enzastaurin is an oral serine/threonine kinase inhibitor that targets protein kinase C-beta (PKC-β) and the phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase/AKT pathway. This trial assessed pemetrexed-carboplatin ± enzastaurin to docetaxel-carboplatin in advanced non-small cell lung cancer.Patients with stage IIIB (with pleural effusion) or IV non-small cell lung cancer and performance status 0 or 1 were randomized to one of the three arms: (A) pemetrexed 500 mg/m and carboplatin area under the curve 6 once every 3 weeks for up to 6 cycles with a loading dose of enzastaurin 1125 or 1200 mg followed by 500 mg daily until disease progression, (B) the same regimen of pemetrexed-carboplatin without enzastaurin, or (C) docetaxel 75 mg/m and carboplatin area under the curve 6 once every 3 weeks for up to six cycles. The primary end point was time to disease progression (TTP).Between March 2006 and May 2008, 218 patients were randomized. Median TTP was 4.6 months for pemetrexed-carboplatin-enzastaurin, 6.0 months for pemetrexed-carboplatin, and 4.1 months for docetaxel-carboplatin (differences not significant). Median survival was 7.2 months for pemetrexed-carboplatin-enzastaurin, 12.7 months for pemetrexed-carboplatin, and 9.2 months for docetaxel-carboplatin (log-rank = 0.05). Compared with the other arms, docetaxel-carboplatin was associated with lower rates of grade 3 thrombocytopenia and anemia but a higher rate of grade 3 or 4 febrile neutropenia. There was no difference in TTP between the three arms, but survival was longer with pemetrexed-carboplatin compared with docetaxel-carboplatin. Enzastaurin did not add to the activity of pemetrexed-carboplatin

Color Vision and Its Relationship to Design

    No full text
In print and digital communications, color plays an important role in how a message is received, even if it happens subconsciously. Through my own research about color and communication, I will learn how color blindness and color theory impact the way people create design and how their audiences interpret those designs. Through the use of scientific data, research, and help from advisors in fields related to this topic, my goal is to make design more accessible and enjoyable for people with disadvantages such as colorblindness. Through research I will delve into the science of regular vision, as well as color vision. In order to make it both entertaining but serious and educational, I plan to create charts and data visualizations that will make the information more enjoyable. The use of charts will help the reader understand and visualize what the information is saying, as well as understand how other people may see and interpret colors and objects

Consumer choice patterns: An analysis based on retail format selection

How consumers respond to changing retail formats is reflected in their patronage choice behavior. The purpose of this study was to investigate retail type choice behavior across 10 retail types in order to identify any change in consumer patronage behavior over the past five years, and to assess whether consumers are patronizing more traditional or nontraditional retail types. Two hundred individuals who did most of the apparel purchasing for the household were interviewed by telephone. Results suggest that although a larger proportion of respondents were shopping in traditional retail types such as department stores, specialty stores, and mass merchandisers, they were shopping there less or at about the same level they were five years ago. In contrast, a smaller proportion of respondents were shopping in nontraditional retail types, but they were shopping there more than they were five years ago. Department stores were the only retail types that consumers were shopping in less compared to five years ago, although patronage of specialty stores and mass merchandisers was at about the same level it was five years ago. All of the other retail types were now being patronized more than they were five years ago. The most dramatic increase in patronage was at warehouse clubs, followed by mail order catalogs. Nontraditional retail types most likely will continue to experience increased patronage.Respondents tended not to be very loyal to any one retail type as on average they purchased less than one third of their total clothing purchases at any particular retail type. Although there appears to be substantial overlap between retail types in terms of consumer patronage, not all patrons are shopping across all retail types. Nontraditional patrons appear to be shopping across more retail types (shopping in between five to six retail types), compared to traditional patrons who are shopping in four to five retail types. Respondents with higher incomes tended to patronize a greater number of retail types. Given the diversity in the marketplace, it appears consumers have developed multi-type loyalties. Implications for educators, marketers, and consumers are discussed.U of I OnlyETDs are only available to UIUC Users without author permissio
