Value creation is an essential element needed in every organization for sustainability in the global market. Value creation can be reflected through continuous improvement in the organization’s earnings per share and the high level of operational effectiveness and competitiveness. Government linked companies (GLCs) are organizations in which the government contributes more than fifty percent of capital and is expected to be actively involved in value creation to reflect high level accountability to taxpayers’ money. However, despite many efforts by the government to improve the performance of GLCs, several studies have found a lack of value creation among GLCs that led to their closure. The resource-based view argues that an organization that possesses capabilities often create more value. This study aims to test resource-based view’s proposition by examining whether companies with high sustainable competitive advantage can create high value. This study examines four components of sustainable competitive advantage: innovation, entrepreneurship, learning, and market orientation. Results show that the existence of the significant relationship among learning orientation, entrepreneurship orientation, and market orientation on value creation. However, this study finds that high innovation does not lead to better value creation in the context of Malaysian GLCs

Semi-Active Secondary Suspension Control Using Fuzzy Skyhook For Improving Railway Vehicle Dynamics Performance In Lateral Direction

    Get PDF
In railway vehicle technology, there are continuously increasing requirements regarding riding comfort, running safety, and speed of railway vehicles. These requirements are opposed by the fact that the condition of the tracks is getting worse and maintenance is becoming expensive. In view of this conflict, conventional suspension concepts are unable to accommodate those needs. This paper investigates the performance of semi-active control of lateral suspension system namely fuzzy body-based skyhook and fuzzy bogie-based skyhook for the purpose of attenuating the effects of track irregularities to the body lateral displacement, body roll angle and unwanted yaw responses of railway vehicle. In fuzzy bogie-based skyhook, a virtual damper is attached between bogie and sky to damp out unwanted vibratory motion of the bogie and to prevent the motion to be transmitted to the body. For fuzzy body-based skyhook, the virtual damper is attached between the body and the sky. The controller is optimized on 17-DOF railway vehicle dynamics model and shown 35 % better dynamics performance than its counterparts

    Get PDF
The rise in the cost of living is the leading cause of stress. Therefore, it is essential to investigate the impact of financial burdens on health. However, to date, limited studies have examined the relationship between financial burden and cardiovascular disease risk factors, the leading cause of death in the world, including Malaysia. Hence, this study examined the determinants of coronary heart disease (CHD). The study administered a questionnaire on CHD patients in Selangor, the most populated State in Malaysia. A total of 300 valid responses were obtained and analysed using multiple regression analysis. The results showed that accommodation cost, salary, smoking habit, age, residential area, marital status and education level are associated with CHD. Nevertheless, the study did not find support for the relationship between education expenses and employment status on CHD. Based on the results, this study recommends that the government and housing developers increase housing affordability, particularly for low- and middle-income earners. Besides, everyone should enjoy a high quality of life regardless of job type or salary. Health awareness, particularly CHD risk, should be promoted regularly in all communication media to target a wider group, particularly the elderly
