    Impact of Market Learning on Management Innovation: Mediating role of Knowledge Integration

    Purpose- The article aims to study and explore the effect of market learning on management innovation along with exploring the role of knowledge integration as a mediator in the hospitality industry of Pakistan. Design/Methodology- The data comprised 215 respondents from the hospitality industry, and it was gathered through a questionnaire containing 22 items, including four demographical items. The gathered data was utilized to validate our model empirically through statistical tests. Findings- Research findings reveal that management innovation is driven by market learning, and significant relationships exist between market learning, knowledge integration, and management innovation. The mediating role of knowledge integration also exists significantly between management innovation and market learning. Novelty – Knowledge integration about management innovation and market learning is a novel contribution, and findings suggest that its effect on this model is significant. Practical Implications- Successful organizations include knowledge integration and management innovation as a critical part of their culture as these variables boost the firm’s productivity and employee participation, and both are found to be driven by market learning. The managers can make an effort to enhance market learning and improve the firm’s overall performance

    Interaction pattern for the complex of B-DNAFullerene compounds with a set of known replication proteins using docking study

    Fullerenes have attracted considerable attention due to their unique chemical structure and potential applications which has opened wide venues for possible human exposure to various fullerene types. Therefore, in depth knowledge of how fullerene may interfere with various cellular processes becomes quite imperative. The present study was designed to investigate how the presence of fullerene affect the binding of DNA with different enzymes involved in replication process. Different fullerenes were first docked with DNA and then binding scores of different enzymes was analyzed with fullerene docked DNA. C30, C40 & C50 once docked with DNA, reduced the binding score of primase, whereas no significant change in the binding score was observed with the helicase, ssb protein, dna pol δ, dna pol ɛ, ligase, DNA clamp, and topoisomerases. On the contrast, the binding score of RPA14 decreases in fluctuating manner while interacting with increasing molecular weight of fullerene bound single-stranded DNA complex. The study revealed the affect of fullerene family interacting with DNA on the binding pattern of enzymes involved in replication process. Study suggests that the presence of most of fullerenes may not affect the activity of these enzymes necessary for replication process whereas C30, C40 & C50 may disrupt the activity of primase, (strating point for DNA polymerase) its docking score decreases from 13820 to 10702

    World Addiction Medicine Reports : formation of the International Society of Addiction Medicine (ISAM) Global Expert Network (ISAM-GEN) and Its global surveys

We will be open to fundraising for specific projects within the platform and future collaboration with external partners.Addiction medicine is a dynamic field that encompasses clinical practice and research in the context of societal, economic, and cultural factors at the local, national, regional, and global levels. This field has evolved profoundly during the past decades in terms of scopes and activities with the contribution of addiction medicine scientists and professionals globally. The dynamic nature of drug addiction at the global level has resulted in a crucial need for developing an international collaborative network of addiction societies, treatment programs and experts to monitor emerging national, regional, and global concerns. This protocol paper presents methodological details of running longitudinal surveys at national, regional, and global levels through the Global Expert Network of the International Society of Addiction Medicine (ISAM-GEN). The initial formation of the network with a recruitment phase and a round of snowball sampling provided 354 experts from 78 countries across the globe. In addition, 43 national/regional addiction societies/associations are also included in the database. The surveys will be developed by global experts in addiction medicine on treatment services, service coverage, co-occurring disorders, treatment standards and barriers, emerging addictions and/or dynamic changes in treatment needs worldwide. Survey participants in categories of (1) addiction societies/associations, (2) addiction treatment programs, (3) addiction experts/clinicians and (4) related stakeholders will respond to these global longitudinal surveys. The results will be analyzed and cross-examined with available data and peer-reviewed for publication.Peer reviewe

    Drosophila Dynein Intermediate Chain Gene, Dic61B, Is Required for Spermatogenesis

    This study reports the identification and characterization of a novel gene, Dic61B, required for male fertility in Drosophila. Complementation mapping of a novel male sterile mutation, ms21, isolated in our lab revealed it to be allelic to CG7051 at 61B1 cytogenetic region, since two piggyBac insertion alleles, CG7051c05439 and CG7051f07138 failed to complement. CG7051 putatively encodes a Dynein intermediate chain. All three mutants, ms21, CG7051c05439 and CG7051f07138, exhibited absolute recessive male sterility with abnormally coiled sperm axonemes causing faulty sperm individualization as revealed by Phalloidin staining in Don Juan-GFP background. Sequencing of PCR amplicons uncovered two point mutations in ms21 allele and confirmed the piggyBac insertions in CG7051c05439 and CG7051f07138 alleles to be in 5′UTR and 4th exon of CG7051 respectively, excision of which reverted the male sterility. In situ hybridization to polytene chromosomes demonstrated CG7051 to be a single copy gene. RT-PCR of testis RNA revealed defective splicing of the CG7051 transcripts in mutants. Interestingly, expression of cytoplasmic dynein intermediate chain, α, β, γ tubulins and α-spectrin was normal in mutants while ultra structural studies revealed defects in the assembly of sperm axonemes. Bioinformatics further highlighted the homology of CG7051 to axonemal dynein intermediate chain of various organisms, including DNAI1 of humans, mutations in which lead to male sterility due to immotile sperms. Based on these observations we conclude that CG7051 encodes a novel axonemal dynein intermediate chain essential for male fertility in Drosophila and rename it as Dic61B. This is the first axonemal Dic gene of Drosophila to be characterized at molecular level and shown to be required for spermatogenesis

Other than currently available therapeutic options, there are a lot of herbal medicines, which have been recommended for its treatment. Herbal medicines have long been used for the treatment of DM because of the advantage usually having no or less side-effects. Most of these plants have antioxidant activities and hence, prevent or treat hard curable diseases, other than having the property of combating the toxicity of toxic or other drugs. In this review other than presenting new findings of DM, the plants, which are used and have been evaluated scientifically for the treatment of DM are introduced

    A comprehensive update on CIDO: the community-based coronavirus infectious disease ontology

    The current COVID-19 pandemic and the previous SARS/MERS outbreaks of 2003 and 2012 have resulted in a series of major global public health crises. We argue that in the interest of developing effective and safe vaccines and drugs and to better understand coronaviruses and associated disease mechenisms it is necessary to integrate the large and exponentially growing body of heterogeneous coronavirus data. Ontologies play an important role in standard-based knowledge and data representation, integration, sharing, and analysis. Accordingly, we initiated the development of the community-based Coronavirus Infectious Disease Ontology in early 2020. As an Open Biomedical Ontology (OBO) library ontology, CIDO is open source and interoperable with other existing OBO ontologies. CIDO is aligned with the Basic Formal Ontology and Viral Infectious Disease Ontology. CIDO has imported terms from over 30 OBO ontologies. For example, CIDO imports all SARS-CoV-2 protein terms from the Protein Ontology, COVID-19-related phenotype terms from the Human Phenotype Ontology, and over 100 COVID-19 terms for vaccines (both authorized and in clinical trial) from the Vaccine Ontology. CIDO systematically represents variants of SARS-CoV-2 viruses and over 300 amino acid substitutions therein, along with over 300 diagnostic kits and methods. CIDO also describes hundreds of host-coronavirus protein-protein interactions (PPIs) and the drugs that target proteins in these PPIs. CIDO has been used to model COVID-19 related phenomena in areas such as epidemiology. The scope of CIDO was evaluated by visual analysis supported by a summarization network method. CIDO has been used in various applications such as term standardization, inference, natural language processing (NLP) and clinical data integration. We have applied the amino acid variant knowledge present in CIDO to analyze differences between SARS-CoV-2 Delta and Omicron variants. CIDO's integrative host-coronavirus PPIs and drug-target knowledge has also been used to support drug repurposing for COVID-19 treatment. CIDO represents entities and relations in the domain of coronavirus diseases with a special focus on COVID-19. It supports shared knowledge representation, data and metadata standardization and integration, and has been used in a range of applications

    Pulse oximeter and different skin tones in Pakistan

    Madam, A recent retrospective cohort study found that 3069 patients of Asian, Black, and Hispanic racial origin were associated with lower average oxygen delivery rates than white patients using the pulse oximeter in the intensive care unit.[1] It is well known that these readings are affected by skin melanin pigmentation, which affects light absorption and scattering, resulting in unreliable readings in non-white patients.[1] This can increase the risk of hidden hypoxemia, which is established as falsely elevated SpO2 readings, usually 92% or greater when the blood haemoglobin oxygen saturation is < 88%.[2] This, in turn, is associated with higher mortality rates.[2] The Pakistani population has a variety of skin tones making this a concerning matter for people of all age groups. According to data analyzed from 18 different hypoxemic studies over the last three years which included studies analyzing the performance of pulse oximeter brands, employing both transmission and reflectance, with 3 sensor types (reusable finger clip, disposable adhesive finger, disposable adhesive forehead) found a slight positive bias in readings on skin with darker pigmentation.[3] The current ongoing situation with COVID-19 makes it even more important to investigate the matter of the pulse oximeter’s performance. A retrospective study on 117 COVID-19 patients found that those with increased fibrinogen, increased ferritin and decreased lymphocyte count were risk factors for those with significant difference (>4%) in  SpO2 and SaO2 suggesting that the pulse oximeter alone isn't enough to accurately and precisely assess COVID-19 patients with those conditions.[4] It is also important to note that the performance of the pulse oximeter devices differ in a clinical vs ideal laboratory setting.[3] During the pandemic in Pakistan, many hospitals and homes have used the pulse oximeter as a reliable portable device without being aware of the discrepancies in the precision of its readings. The Pakistani population should have a pulse oximeter device that works ideally in all settings and on a variety of skin tones to reflect the diversity of its population. The regulatory agencies and leading hospitals in Pakistan should analyse and change their standards for measuring the accuracy and precision of the pulse oximeter on patients with darker pigmentation, especially in low-perfusion and hypoxemic states.[3
