ABSTRACT In this work, obtained and predicted economical results of Badajoz’s Plan are analysed, these results are related to farms of the villages created for the tenant farmer’s settlements. Also, conclusions concerning to several aspects associated with the obtained results have been accomplished, which allow to give an assessment of the obtained agricultural results. At the same time, the evolution of de main socioeconomics rates of Badajoz are studied, since the settlements part of the Plan until today, and which have been the influence of Badajoz’s Plan in this evolution. Also an economic and productive characterization of the actual situation of the farm created has been made. Finally, a summary of relevant bibliography and principal laws that regulated the starting of the Plan, finish the work

Corporate social responsibility in portfolio selection: A "goal games" against nature approach

Nowadays, there is an uprising social pressure on big companies to incorporate into their decision-making process elements of the so-called social responsibility. Among the many implications of this fact, one relevant one is the need to include this new element in classic portfolio selection models. This paper meets this challenge by formulating a model that combines goal programming with "goal games" against nature in a scenario where the social responsibility is defined through the introduction of a battery of sustainability indicators amalgamated into a synthetic index. In this way, we have obtained an efficient model that only implies solving a small number of linear programming problems. The proposed approach has been tested and illustrated by using a case study related to the selection of securities in international markets

Computing Efficient Financial Strategies: An Extended Compromise Programming Approach

This paper proposes a mathematical model to plan the financial strategy of a large company. The model links the philosophy of new behavioural economics with the multiple criteria decision making paradigm. Within this theoretical approach, the proposed model is supported by more realistic behavioral hypotheses. After formulating the initial multi-objective programming model, it has, due to its underlying computational difficulties, to be transformed into an easily computable extended compromise programming model. The functional and empirical potential of the model is illustrated with the help of a case study concerning a “stock market quoted” Spanish company operating in the energy sector. This paper shows how such an approach can open up new prospects for research linking economic problems with applied mathematic

Preparation of Porous Carbons from Petroleum Pitch and Polyaniline by Thermal Treatment for Methane Storage

The methane storage capacity of two series of activated carbons, obtained from a graphitizable (petroleum pitch) and a nongraphitizable precursor (polyaniline), has been evaluated after different thermal treatments. Both samples have been pyrolyzed and subsequently activated with KOH to obtain a highly developed microporous structure. After the synthesis, samples have been heat-treated at different temperatures, between 1000 and 1500 °C, to introduce structural changes that could have an effect on two parameters defining the methane adsorption capacity: the porosity and the density. The physicochemical characterization of the samples has shown that the activation process destroys the pregraphitic structure, with a development of microporosity. However, during the subsequent thermal treatment, the graphitic order can be partially recovered, especially with the graphitizable material, together with a decrease in the micropore volume and an enhancement of the density. The electrical conductivity of the activated carbon obtained from a graphitizable precursor improves much more with an increase in the temperature of the thermal treatment than that of the activated carbon obtained from a nongraphitizable precursor. It is worth highlighting that the high methane adsorption capacities achieved with some of these samples, reaching values as high as 180 V/V. These values are among the highest reported in the literature so far.The authors would like to acknowledge financial support from MINECO (MAT2016-80285-p)

Subjective age of acquisition norms for 1604 English words by Spanish L2 speakers of English and their relationship with lexico-semantic, affective, sociolinguistic and proficiency variables

Psycholinguistic studies have shown that there are many variables implicated in language comprehension and production. At the lexical level, subjective age of acquisition (AoA), the estimate of the age at which a word is acquired, is key for stimuli selection in psycholinguistic studies. AoA databases in English are often used when testing a variety of phenomena in second language (L2) speakers of English. However, these have limitations, as the norms are not provided by the target population (L2 speakers of English) but by native English speakers. In this study, we asked native Spanish L2 speakers of English to provide subjective AoA ratings for 1604 English words, and investigated whether factors related to 14 lexico-semantic and afective variables, both in Spanish and English, and to the speakers’ profle (i.e., sociolinguistic variables and L2 profciency), were related to the L2 AoA ratings. We used boosted regression trees, an advanced form of regression analysis based on machine learning and boosting algorithms, to analyse the data. Our results showed that the model accounted for a relevant proportion of deviance (58.56%), with the English AoA provided by native English speakers being the strongest predictor for L2 AoA. Additionally, L2 AoA correlated with L2 reaction times. Our database is a useful tool for the research community running psycholinguistic studies in L2 speakers of English. It adds knowledge about which factors—linked to the characteristics of both the linguistic stimuli and the speakers—afect L2 subjective AoA. Effects of Acute Vitamin C plus Vitamin E Supplementation on Exercise-Induced Muscle Damage in Runners: A Double-Blind Randomized Controlled Trial

Considering the existing controversy over the possible role of acute antioxidant vitamins in reducing exercise-induced muscle damage (EIMD), this doubled-blind, randomized and controlled trial aimed to determine whether supplementation with vitamins C and E could mitigate the EIMD in endurance-trained runners (n = 18). The exercise protocol involved a warm-up followed by 6 to 8 bouts of 1 km running at 75% maximum heart rate (HRmax). Two hours before the exercise protocol, participants took the supplementation with vitamins or placebo, and immediately afterwards, blood lactate, rate of perceived exertion and performance were assessed. At 24 h post-exercise, CK, delayed onset muscle soreness and performance were determined (countermovement jump, squat jump and stiffness test). The elastic index and vertical stiffness were calculated using a stiffness test. Immediately after the exercise protocol, all participants showed improved maximum countermovement jump, which only persisted after 24 h in the vitamin group (p 0.05). Vitamin C and E supplementation does not seem to help with EIMD in endurance-trained individual
