    Get PDF
We review the fundamental properties and main applications of organic derivatives and complexes of fullerenes in the solid-state form. We address in particular the structural properties, in terms of crystal structure, polymorphism, orientational transitions and morphology, and the electronic structure and derived properties, such as chemical activity, electrical conduction mechanisms, optical properties, heat conduction and magnetism. The last two sections of the review focus on the solid-state optoelectronic and electrochemical applications of fullerene derivatives, which range from photovoltaic cells to field-effect transistors and photodetectors on one hand, to electron-beam resists, electrolytes and energy storage on the other.Peer ReviewedPreprin

The plaint of the empress) is the only film directed by Pina Bausch. Sherealized this movie in the late Eighties, with her company, the Tanztheater Wuppertal, shootingespecially in outdoors: we can see the wood and the countryside, the suburbs and the city. Thedancers invest Wuppertal, the town where they work every day, with their poetic and their sceniccharacters; their actions have an illogical and alienating effect because they are totally in contrast tothe places, the time, the music. Urban and rural spaces are changed and charged with a dramaticsense while, at the same time, they affect the interior landscape of the dancers, who are absorbed init, and often lost in it

Affioramenti di forme chiuse in Lucini: i sonetti. III.

Detection of embryo mortality and hatch using thermal differences among incubated chicken eggs

    Get PDF
Accurate diagnosis of both the stage of embryonic mortality and the hatch process in incubated eggs is a fundamental component in troubleshooting and hatchery management. However, traditional methods disturb incubation, destroy egg samples, risk contamination, are time and labour-intensive and require specialist knowledge and training. Therefore, a new method to accurately detect embryonic mortality and hatching time would be of significant interest for the poultry industry if it could be done quickly, cheaply and be fully integrated into the process. In this study we have continuously measured individual eggshell temperatures and the corresponding micro-environmental air temperatures throughout the 21 days of incubation using standard low-cost temperature sensors. Moreover, we have quantified the thermal interaction between eggs and air by calculating thermal profile changes (temperature drop time, drop length and drop magnitude) that allowed us to detect four categories of egg status (infertile/early death, middle death, late death and hatch) during incubation. A decision tree induction classification model accurately (93.3%) predicted the status of 105 sampled eggs in comparison to the classical hatch residue breakout analyses. With this study we have provided a major contribution to the optimisation of incubation processes by introducing an alternative method for the currently practiced hatch residue breakout analyses.status: publishe

Privacy and Anonymization of Neighborhoods in Multiplex Networks

Since the beginning of the digital age, the amount of available data on human behaviour has dramatically increased, along with the risk for the privacy of the represented subjects. Since the analysis of those data can bring advances to science, it is important to share them while preserving the subjects' anonymity. A significant portion of the available information can be modelled as networks, introducing an additional privacy risk related to the structure of the data themselves. For instance, in a social network, people can be uniquely identifiable because of the structure of their neighborhood, formed by the amount of their friends and the connections between them. The neighborhood's structure is the target of an identity disclosure attack on released social network data, called neighborhood attack. To mitigate this threat, algorithms to anonymize networks have been proposed. However, this problem has not been deeply studied on multiplex networks, which combine different social network data into a single representation. The multiplex network representation makes the neighborhood attack setting more complicated, and adds information that an attacker can use to re-identify subjects. This thesis aims to understand how multiplex networks behave in terms of anonymization difficulty and neighborhood attack. We present two definitions of multiplex neighborhoods, and discuss how the fraction of nodes with unique neighborhoods can be affected. Through analysis of network models, we study the variation of the uniqueness of neighborhoods in networks with different structure and characteristics. We show that the uniqueness of neighborhoods has a linear trend depending on the network size and average degree. If the network has a more random structure, the uniqueness decreases significantly when the network size increases. On the other hand, if the local structure is more pronounced, the uniqueness is not strongly influenced by the number of nodes. We also conduct a motif analysis to study the recurring patterns that can make social networks' neighborhoods less unique. Lastly, we propose an algorithm to anonymize a pair of multiplex neighborhoods. This algorithm is the core building block that can be used in a method to prevent neighborhood attacks on multiplex networks

An Analysis of the Ready, Set, Go! Program on Program Participants and the Ability to Build Community Capacity

The study examined the impacts of the Ready, Set, Go! training program on its participants. The purpose of this study is to assess the effects of the Ready, Set Go! program on building community capacity in the state of Tennessee. A survey was developed and administered to 110 participants at the conclusion of their training. One hundred percent (100%) of participants responded. Three respondents (2.7%) were military personnel, three (2.7%) were veterans, and twenty-three (20.7%) had a spouse or family member in the military. Survey data was used to determine participation in the training leads to participants becoming involved in OMK community action. Data was used to determine if perceived utility of program and knowledge gain lead to anticipated involvement with the Operation: Military Kids program. The results showed that perceived utility does correlate to future involvement while knowledge gain does not determine future community action. Future trainings should focus on the relevance of the material so trainees will be interested in participating in community action

Female Veteran Students’ Transition Experiences from the Military to Higher Education: A Mixed Methods Study

Female veterans are a growing population on campuses across the United States (DiRamio et al., 2015; National Conference of State Legislatures, 2014). Researchers have turned their attention toward the veteran student population, but research specifically on female veteran students is lacking (Borsari et al., 2017; Demers, 2013). This sequential explanatory mixed method study was conducted to examine and compare the transitional experiences of male and female veteran students from the military to college. In this research method, the quantitative and then qualitative data were collected and analyzed, each in distinct stages (Teddlie & Tashakkori, 2009). Participants from this study were from Patriot University, a large, public 4-year institution. Results from the quantitative phase indicated that gender is not a significant predictor of veteran students’ use of transition coping mechanisms for four of the five scales developed. A difference existed between male and female veterans on the stress scale with male participants scoring higher. The qualitative findings converged with existing literature that indicates veteran students experienced transitional challenges but also developed skills and characteristics that were useful in their transition to higher education (Borsari et al., 2017; Stalides, 2008; Steele, Salcedo, & Coley, 2010). This research contributed to the literature by presenting the narratives of eight female veteran students’ transition from the military to higher education. Recommendations include providing female veteran students with opportunities to develop reintegration and coping skills as part of a first-year studies course

The ultimate goal of community capacity building is that communities will be able to deal with their own problems without relying on resources external to their community. The study reported here examined the impacts of the Ready, Set, Go! training program on building community capacity of its participants. Through a survey administered to 110 participants, survey data revealed that perceived utility correlated to future community involvement while knowledge gained did not determine future community action
