Anachronism of the True: Reading "Reading Capital"

    Get PDF
This essay explores the vitality of an Althusserian reading of "Capital" by means of a reconsideration of the so-called “theoreticism”. In this sense, I propose to approach the Althusserian intervention in the terms of a proper materialist query about practices. Following the idea posed by Etienne Balibar about the philosophical worth of Marxist theory in XXI century, I develop the thesis that in the light of Marxist “philosophy”, the misunderstood relation still existing between theoretical and political practices are nevertheless thinkable. Finally, I propose that in as much as it might be considered that in this relation lies the kernel of Marx’s discovery, it also could be a basis for rereading "Capital" under present challenges.

The child's statement in judicial processes: some current studies and discussions

The legislation transformations introduced in our country by the Law of Integrative Protection of the children and adolescents' rights", -Ley de Protección Integral de los Derechos de las niñas, niños y adolescentes-, gave way to a series of discussions on their speech role in the judicial processes. By establishing the child's condition as a subject of legal right, this law enacts the child's "right to be heard" and its opinion to be taken into account. However, what implications has its speech when making decisions regarding concerning issues? Which place is actually given to its will when establishing its main interest? How does the child being,-its age, maturity stage, discrimination ability and other personal conditions-, influence as regarding its speech that the same law implies? In this work, after introducing the transformations this law brings about regarding the child's role, we will introduce the discussions that the law itself opens in relation to the speech role and the statement status in judicial and administrative processes. Finally, from the psychoanalysis view we will show some possible reviews and contributions.Facultad de Psicologí

Culture in Crisis! Exploring how employees make sense of corporate culture during economic crisis. A study of a city hotel business in Thessaloniki, Greece

    Get PDF
The purpose of this thesis is to explore the concept of corporate culture and leadership at a hotel in a crisis environment. In particular, we ask to what extent this corporate culture is challenged by the leadership during a crisis situation. The study was conducted in a city hotel in Thessaloniki, Greece. The financial crisis had and continues to have a great impact in the Eurozone. The crisis made its most aggressive appearance in Greece during 2009 and is still going strong. Based upon literature that supports the connection of corporate culture, leadership and commitment, management is vital during crisis. Through loosely structured interviews we investigated to what extent this corporate culture exists in a hotel in Greece and how the specific form of leadership of the management is influencing corporate culture. The study made in Thessaloniki is qualitative and has an interpretive character. The findings of this study suggest that the corporate culture is affected by the leadership style, threatened during crisis but at the same time its employees seem to connect and get a family kind of atmosphere. Furthermore, our findings could add to the existing literature regarding corporate culture and leadership. Since we investigate a hotel that strives to survive during crisis with an ambiguous leadership style and its direct implications to the culture of the company, we hope that our study could be used as a base for further research into the three fields mentioned

    A Hamiltonian fluid-kinetic model for a two-species non-neutral plasma

    No full text
International audienceA model for describing the dynamics of a pure electron plasma in the presence of a population of massive charged particles is presented. The model couples the fluid dynamics of the pure electron plasma with the dynamics of the massive particle population, the latter being treated kinetically. The model is shown to possess a noncanonical Hamiltonian structure and to preserve invariants analogous to those of the two-dimensional (2D) Euler equation for an incompressible inviscid fluid, and of the Vlasov equation. The Hamiltonian structure of the model is used to derive a set of stability conditions for rotating coherent structures of the two-species system, in the case of negatively charged massive particles. According to these conditions, stability is attained if both the equilibrium distribution function of the kinetic species and the equilibrium density of the electron fluid are monotonically decreasing functions of the corresponding single-particle energies in the rotating frame. For radially confined equilibria near the axis, the stability condition corresponds to the existence of a finite interval of rotation frequencies for the reference frame, with the upper bound determined by the presence of the kinetic population

The notion of enunciation in Jacques Lacan’s work: contributions for a conceptualisation of infant’s access to speech

    Get PDF
In this paper we will try to specify some aspects of the notion of “enunciation” proposed by Jacques Lacan. The Song and the Academy. Disencounters, Debates and Perspectives

The song, great protagonist of the popular repertoire, poses an irreducible challenge to the parameters of analysis and traditional pedagogical resources. Its brief form, within which very complex phenomena - rhythmic, textural, functional, etc.- is condensed, added to the question of the sung word, historically underestimated, builds a very singular kind of sense that demands new approaches.Facultad de Bellas Arte

Medborgardialog i stadsförnyelseprojektet H+ - förhållningssätt och arbetssätt

    Get PDF
In Sweden, consultation meetings must be held by law in the development of plans, such as master plans and detailed master plans. However, work and approach regarding citizen dialogue could vary between municipalities, as there are no particular conditions regarding the method to be used in terms of consultation and dialogue with the citizens. The main aim of this paper is the study of attitudes and practices regarding citizen dialogue in the contemporary urban renewal project H+ in the town of Helsingborg, a project that has sustainable urban development as the main goal. Questions that are answered in this work is how citizen dialogue is practiced in the urban renewal project H+ and what approach to public citizen dialogue that can be discerned the project H+. The method that was used for research and data collection was literature studies, document studies, and two qualitative interviews. The study shows that the early vision phase of the H+ project was a critical stage, where major issues were addressed, and citizens weren’t particularly involved. Instead, the larger part of the citizen dialogue has, so far, been about raising awareness about the renewal area, and to conduct open source planning after the decision on the project to proceed. However, the study also shows that the project's principles regarding public dialogue has manifested itself later in the project, in interesting methods
