The Use of Cover Crops After a Maize Crop in the North of Spain
This work intends to study N leaching losses in a field assay when crimson clover (Trifolium incarnatum) and italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum) was incorporated into the soil and quantify the their effect on N2O, N total gaseous losses under controlled soil moisture and temperature conditions. Field assay: A split-plot design where main plot was the cover crop and the subplot was the rate of fertilizer (0 and 150 kg N ha-1) applied to the subsequent maize crop. Laboratory assay: Residues of italian ryegrass and crimson clover were mixed with soil in containers, leaving one set of unamended controls. Incubations of soil during 27 days with a 0, 5 or 0.01 % C2H2 atmosphere allow us to obtain potential N2O and N total gaseous losses. In the field experiment crimson clover incorporation was better than ryegrass to resolve nitrate leaching losses due to 150 kg N ha-1 applied to maize although clover incorporation in the laboratory assay seemed to increase the risk of N2O emissions despite most gaseous losses were in the form of N2
A note to transfer a generic database pseudocode for storing chronological data from research in apiaries
In honey bee research conducted in apiaries, a large amount of information is usually generated requiring a flexible database
for storing and retrieving data. Here, we developed a generic database pseudocode, based on the abstraction of
the apiary system, for data collected from the colonies through time.We thank J Chávez-Galarza for the fruitful discussions during
the design of the database architecture. This research was

Lattice three-gluon vertex in extended kinematics: planar degeneracy
We present novel results for the three-gluon vertex, obtained from an
extensive quenched lattice simulation in the Landau gauge. The simulation
evaluates the transversely projected vertex, spanned on a special tensorial
basis, whose form factors are naturally parametrized in terms of individually
Bose-symmetric variables. Quite interestingly, when evaluated in these
kinematics, the corresponding form factors depend almost exclusively on a
single kinematic variable, formed by the sum of the squares of the three
incoming four-momenta, , , and . Thus, all configurations lying on a
given plane in the coordinate system share, to a high degree
of accuracy, the same form factors, a property that we denominate \emph{planar
degeneracy}. We have confirmed the validity of this property through an
exhaustive study of the set of configurations satisfying the condition , within the range . Moreover, a preliminary exploration
reveals that the planar degeneracy persist in the case of more arbitrary
configurations. This drastic simplification allows for a remarkably compact
description of the main bulk of the data, which is particularly suitable for
future numerical applications. A semi-perturbative analysis reproduces the
lattice findings rather accurately, once the inclusion of a gluon mass has
cured all spurious divergences.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figure
“The Magic that we have among us...the Children”. Visibility, Strength and Affection of the Children’s Voice
If someone argues that children are human beings, no one will disagree. Nevertheless, some will question the competency of a child as they are supposedly immature. However, children are also people endowed with a number of important qualities. They do have rights, but less than those of adults. Children are not mere receptacles of information, mere subjects of duties and tasks which are defined through intense agendas; on the contrary, they are sources of novel ideas. This has been proved when they are allowed to experience the opportunity to discuss the concepts of citizenship and rights. Using the fundamentals of experiential learning, the project “Educommunication, Environmental and Youth Citizenship” has placed a strong emphasis on the creation of spaces that promote children’s well-being, along with the possibility of learning with wonder and passion. For this purpose, we appeal to incorporating Educommunication, as an emerging field of action into which converge Education and Communication, as well as the Sociology of Chilhood within the framework of a participative methodology that emphasizes children, as creators and protagonists, in word and action, capable of participating and sharing their natural knowledge, with their “full voice”
Context aware Q-Learning-based model for decision support in the negotiation of energy contracts
[EN] Automated negotiation plays a crucial role in the decision support for bilateral energy transactions. In fact, an adequate analysis of past actions of opposing negotiators can improve the decision-making process of market players, allowing them to choose the most appropriate parties to negotiate with in order to increase their outcomes. This paper proposes a new model to estimate the expected prices that can be achieved in bilateral contracts under a specific context, enabling adequate risk management in the negotiation process. The proposed approach is based on an adaptation of the Q-Learning reinforcement learning algorithm to choose the best scenario (set of forecast contract prices) from a set of possible scenarios that are determined using several forecasting and estimation methods. The learning process assesses the probability of occurrence of each scenario, by comparing each expected scenario with the real scenario. The final chosen scenario is the one that presents the higher expected utility value. Besides, the learning method can determine which is the best scenario for each context, since the behaviour of players can change according to the negotiation environment. Consequently, these conditions influence the final contract price of negotiations. This approach allows the supported player to be prepared for the negotiation scenario that is the most probable to represent a reliable approximation of the actual negotiation environme
Lattice three-gluon vertex in extended kinematics: Planar degeneracy
We present novel results for the three-gluon vertex, obtained from an extensive quenched lattice simulation in the Landau gauge. The simulation evaluates the transversely projected vertex, spanned on a special tensorial basis, whose form factors are naturally parametrized in terms of individually Bose-symmetric variables. Quite interestingly, when evaluated in these kinematics, the corresponding form factors depend almost exclusively on a single kinematic variable, formed by the sum of the squares of the three incoming four-momenta, q, r, and p. Thus, all configurations lying on a given plane in the coordinate system (q2,r2,p2) share, to a high degree of accuracy, the same form factors, a property that we denominate planar degeneracy. We have confirmed the validity of this property through an exhaustive study of the set of configurations satisfying the condition q2=r2, within the range [0,5GeV]. This drastic simplification allows for a remarkably compact description of the main bulk of the data, which is particularly suitable for future numerical applications. A semi-perturbative analysis reproduces the lattice findings rather accurately, once the inclusion of a gluon mass has cured all spurious divergences. The authors thank A. C. Aguilar, G. Schwinger mechanism for gluons from lattice QCD
Continuum and lattice analyses have revealed the existence of a mass-scale in
the gluon two-point Schwinger function. It has long been conjectured that this
expresses the action of a Schwinger mechanism for gauge boson mass generation
in quantum chromodynamics (QCD). For such to be true, it is necessary and
sufficient that a dynamically-generated, massless, colour-carrying, scalar
gluon+gluon correlation emerge as a feature of the dressed three-gluon vertex.
Working with results on elementary Schwinger functions obtained via the
numerical simulation of lattice-regularised QCD, we establish with an extremely
high level of confidence that just such a feature appears; hence, confirm the
conjectured origin of the gluon mass scale.Comment: 8 pages, 8 figure
Injury prevention, drowning prevention habits and resuscitation knowledge of Portuguese surfing instructors. A cross-sectional study
Surfing instructors can play an important role both in preventing sport related injuries and as first responders in water emergencies events. Even though Portugal is a predominantly oceanic country, with many people enrolling in water sports activities, we still don’t have a clear insight of the knowledge and educational practices of surfing instructors concerning both injury prevention and first response actions. This study aimed to analyze the educational practices on prevention of surf-related injuries of Portuguese surfing instructors and their knowledge and experience acting as first responders in the sea. A cross-sectional study was designed, using an online survey distributed by all surfing schools registered at Portuguese Surfing Federation to their instructors. The survey included a brief demographic characterization, questions regarding teaching practices about prevention of surfing-related injuries and knowledge/experience acting as first responders at the sea. Data was collected anonymously using Google Forms. A total of 102 instructors participated in the study. The analysis of the survey responses showed that 93.2% of surfing instructors are aware of the importance of prevention habits for teaching but skip some major preventive measures when teaching novice surfers. Nevertheless, the instructors with more than 15 years of experience provide more feedback on prevention habits during classes than instructors with less experience (p=0.019). When looking at self-perceptions of own competence to act in a drowning event, the instructors who have attended a basic life support course asserted to be more competent than those who never attended a course (p<0.05). These findings suggest that it would be very positive that all surfing schools followed the same protocol, giving due importance to prevention measures. Moreover, surfing instructors can play an important role in first response to drowning events but might have some training flaws that should be considered as part of a Water Safety National Strategy. © JPES
Supramolecular tripodal Au(I) assemblies in water. Interactions with pyrene fluorescent probe
The synthesis of three gold(I) tripodal complexes derived from tripropargylamine and containing the water soluble phosphines PTA (1, 3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane), DAPTA (3,7-diacetyl-1,3,7-triaza--phosphabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane) and TPPTS (triphenylphosfine-3,3',3''-trisulfonic acid trisodium salt) is here described. The three complexes are observed to give rise to the formation of supramolecular aggregates in water and very long fibers. This property has been analyzed by means of 1H-NMR spectroscopy at different concentrations and SAXS. The results point out the important role of the phosphine moieties as the main enthalpic or entropic contribution in the resulting Gibbs energy of aggregates formation. The tripodal structure of the three complexes together with the presence of gold(I) atoms make them ideal candidates to interact with hydrophobic molecules also in water. For this, the interaction with pyrene in this solvent has been evaluated with successful results in all three complexes. The highest association constant corresponds to 2 as the host. DFT studies indicates the location of pyrene in the tripodal cavity as the most stable conformation. The interaction with pyrene has been additionally studied within cholate hydrogel matrixes pointing out the stability of the resulting host:guest adducts in the different medium
