Evolution of the spherical cavity radius generated around a subsurface emitter

The emitter discharge in subsurface drip irrigation can be affected by soil properties. A positive pressure develops at the emitter outlet where a spherical cavity is assumed to form. In steady-state conditions, the pressure in the soil relates to soil hydraulic 5 properties, the emitter discharge, and the cavity radius. This pressure in the soil is very sensitive to the cavity radius. In this paper, the development of the cavity around the emitter outlet was measured for various emitter discharges in laboratory tests carried out in containers with uniform loamy soils. Water distribution in laterals and units of subsurface drip irrigation. II: Field evaluation.

The performance of drip irrigation and subsurface drip irrigation (SDI) laterals has been compared. Two emitter models (one compensating and the other noncompensating) were assessed. Field tests were carried out with a pair of laterals working at the same inlet pressure. A procedure was developed that recorded head pressures at both lateral extremes and inlet flow during irrigation. Both models showed similar behavior and soil properties affected their discharge. On the other hand, the performance of a field SDI unit of compensating emitters was characterized by measuring pressures at different points and inlet flow. Finally, the distribution of water and soil pressure in the laterals and the unit were predicted and irrigation uniformity and soil pressure variability were also determined. Predictions agreed reasonably well with the experimental observations. Thus, the methodology proposed could be used to support the decision making for the design and management of SDI system

Protestant work ethics in times of economic crisis: a modernist boost rather than a Modernity comeback

[Resumen] En la presente investigación, se ha estudiado la incidencia de la crisis económica en el crecimiento de los valores cercanos a la ética protestante hacia el trabajo, analizados por Max Weber en su conocida tesis sobre La ética protestante y el espíritu del capitalismo. Este objeto de estudio se ha tratado desde la óptica que nos ofrecen las teorías del riesgo y de la modernización reflexiva. Ambas perspectivas plantean un enfoque distinto al que se ha apreciado en la mayoría de estudios sobre el tema, los cuales suelen realizarse desde el ámbito de la teórica psicológica. Además, la comparación de los datos que nos muestra el análisis de la Encuesta Mundial de Valores para los años 2007 y 2012, nos invita a entender las posibles diferencias entre un año y otro como resultado de la incidencia de la crisis económica. Los resultados obtenidos en los análisis de datos llevan a cuestionar la propia existencia de una verdadera ética protestante hacia el trabajo en España, y, por el contrario indican a pensar que el sujeto español, sobreexplotado de imágenes y con una percepción catastrofista del futuro laboral en su país, se ha inclinado hacia estos valores en la búsqueda de alguna certeza que lo guíe en un mundo absolutamente distinto al que vio nacer a la ética protestante. En este sentido, ciertas identidades han hecho la función de bisagra mejor que otras en este rearme “protestante”, entre los años 2007 y 2012.[Resumo] Na presente investigación estúdase a incidencia da crise económica no crecemento dos valores cercanos á ética protestante cara o traballo analizados por Max Weber na súa famosa tese A ética protestante e o espírito do capitalismo. Estudarase este obxecto de estudo dende a óptica que nos ofrecen as teorías da sociedade do risco e da modernización reflexiva. Ambas perspectivas plantean un enfoque distinto ao que se apreciou na maioría de estudos sobre o tema, os cales soen realizarse dende o ámbito da teórica psicolóxica. Ademáis, a comparación dos datos que nos mostra a análise da Enquisa Mundial de Valores para os anos 2007 e 2012, invítanos a entender as posibles diferencias entre un ano e otro como o resultado da incidencia da crise económica. Os resultados obtidos fan que se cuestione a propia existencia dunha verdadeira ética protestante cara o traballo en España, e inclinan máis a pensar que o suxeito español, sobreexplotado de imaxes e cunha percepción catastrofista do futuro laboral no seu país, inclínase hacia estes valores na búsqueda dalgunha certeza que o guíe nun mundo absolutamente distinto ao que viu nacer á ética protestante. Neste senso, certas identidades fixeron mellor a función de bisagra que outras neste rearme “protestante”, entre os anos 2007 e 2012.[Abstract] The aim of this research was to study the impact of the economic crisis in the increase of the values closed to Protestant Work Ethics, analyzed by Max Weber in his famous known thesis on the The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism. These values were studied from the perspective of the risk society, and from the theory of the reflexive modernization. Both perspectives show a different point of view from the most commonly approaches in the researches about this topic, which are held by the light of psychological theories. In addition, the comparison of results that has been analyzed, using the World Value Survey for 2007 and 2012, gives support to the idea that the differences between both years is due to to the impact of the economic crisis. These results invite to question the existence of a true Protestant Work Ethic in Spain, and lead us to think that the Spanish population, overwhelmed with images and with a catastrophic perception of the employment in the future, take these values in order to look for some certainty in an absolutely different world from the one which saw the dawn of the Protestant Work Ethics. Emitter discharge variability of subsurface drip irrigation in uniform soils: effect on water-application uniformity

Emitter discharge of subsurface drip irrigation (SDI) decreases as a result of the overpressure in the soil water at the discharge orifice. In this paper, the variation in dripper discharge in SDI laterals is studied. First, the emitter coefficient of flow variation CVq was measured in laboratory experiments with drippers of 2 and 4 L/h that were laid both on the soil and beneath it. Additionally, the soil pressure coefficient of variation CVhs was measured in buried emitters. Then, the irrigation uniformity was simulated in SDI and surface irrigation laterals under the same operating conditions and uniform soils; sandy and loamy. CVq was similar for the compensating models of both the surface and subsurface emitters. However, CVq decreased for the 2-L/h non-compensating model in the loamy soil. This shows a possible self-regulation of non-compensating emitter discharge in SDI, due to the interaction between effects of emitter discharge and soil pressure. This resulted in the irrigation uniformity of SDI non-compensating emitters to be greater than surface drip irrigation. The uniformity with pressure-compensating emitters would be similar in both cases, provided the overpressures in SDI are less than or equal to the compensation range lower limit

A violencia contra a muller

Titulación: Grao en Medicina -- Materia: Medicina LegalEsta unidade didáctica denominada “Violencia contra a muller”, está incluída no bloque de “Clínica forense” da materia “Medicina legal”, que se imparte no segundo semestre do 5º curso do Grao en Medicina. Esta materia é froito da interrelación entre a Medicina e o Dereito nun dobre sentido: o primeiro refírese á aplicación dos coñecementos médicos para resolver cuestións xudiciais (Medicina legal propiamente dita). O segundo ocúpase da regulación xurídica da práctica médica (Dereito médico). Ambos aspectos están incluídos no programa da materia. A Medicina legal pódese considerar integrada polas seguintes especialidades: a Patoloxía e a Clínica forenses, ambas fundamentadas exclusivamente en coñecementos de natureza médica, a Xenética e a Toxicoloxía forenses. Como indicamos máis arriba, esta unidade didáctica está localizada na parte de Clínica forense, que se ocupa da pericia médica sobre a persoa viva, pero cando as vítimas morren, como consecuencia da violencia que sofren, son obxecto de estudo da Patoloxía forense, que se ocupa da pericia sobre o cadáver. Dentro das competencias dos profesionais da Medicina están as de recoñecer, diagnosticar, valorar e orientar o manexo do dano físico e mental, ademais de ser capaz de redactar documentos médico-legais. A isto hai que engadir que, segundo o noso ordenamento xurídico, calquera médico pode ser chamado a actuar como perito nas causas penais. Por conseguinte, é importante que o futuro médico adquira os coñecementos precisos sobre os obxectivos e procedementos da pericia médica sobre a persoa viva, e a súa obriga de comunicar á autoridade xudicial a atención prestada a unha persoa con lesións. Estes coñecementos, referidos as mulleres maltratadas, trátanse nesta unidade didáctica.
