    AER Building Blocks for Multi-Layer Multi-Chip Neuromorphic Vision Systems

    A 5-layer neuromorphic vision processor whose components communicate spike events asychronously using the address-eventrepresentation (AER) is demonstrated. The system includes a retina chip, two convolution chips, a 2D winner-take-all chip, a delay line chip, a learning classifier chip, and a set of PCBs for computer interfacing and address space remappings. The components use a mixture of analog and digital computation and will learn to classify trajectories of a moving object.     Contribución al conocimiento de la flora briofítica de la comarca de la Axarquía y la ZEC Sierra de Camarolos (Málaga, España)

    Through the collection of samples and study of 61 localities, the bryophytic flora of the Axarquía region and the ZEC Sierra de Camarolos is studied. The bryophyte diversity is estimated at 140 species, of which 124 are mosses and 16 liverworts. Husnotiella sinuosa (Mitt.) J.A. Jiménez & M.J. Cano is recorded for the first time from Andalusia, Orthotrichum macrocephalum F. Lara, Garilleti & Mazimpaka, O. schimperi Hammar, and Tortella inflexa (Bruch) Broth. are reported for the first time from Malaga province. Most of the species in the catalogue (about 85%) are new for the studied territory.Resumen Mediante las recolecciones en un total de 61 localidades muestreadas, se lleva a cabo un estudio de la flora briofítica de la comarca de la Axarquía (Málaga) y la ZEC Sierra de Camarolos (Málaga). La diversidad briofítica se estima en 140 especies, de ellas 124 son musgos y 16 hepáticas. Husnotiella sinuosa (Mitt.) J.A. Jiménez & M.J. Cano se cita por vez primera de Andalucía, Orthotrichum macrocephalum F. Lara, Garilleti & Mazimpaka, O. schimperi Hammar y Tortella inflexa (Bruch) Broth. son novedades para la brioflora malacitana.     Validity and Reliability of the Decision Regret Scale in Cancer Patients Receiving Adjuvant Chemotherapy

    OBJECTIVES: Decisional regret is an indicator of satisfaction with the treatment decision and can help to identify those patients who need more support and evaluate the efficacy of decision support interventions. The objectives of this study are, 1) to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Decision Regret Scale and 2) to analyze the moderating effect of psychological distress on functional status and regret in patients with cancer following adjuvancy. METHODS: A prospective, multicenter cohort of 403 patients who completed the Decision Regret Scale (DRS), Health-Related Quality of Life (EORTC QLQ-C30), and Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI). The evaluation was conducted six months after receiving adjuvant treatment in patients with resected cancer. RESULTS: After treatment, most participants (51.9%) experienced no decision regret; 33.7% felt mild regret, and 14.4% exhibited high levels of regret. The Spanish version of the DRS demonstrated satisfactory properties: it had a strong, clear unidimensional factorial structure with substantial loadings. Decisional regret was related with lower scores on functional, symptom, and quality of life scales, and higher levels of psychological distress (all P = 0.001). Psychological distress was found to have a moderating effect on the relationship between functional state and decision regret. CONCLUSIONS: The Spanish version of the DRS is a reliable, valid tool to evaluate regret and post-decisional quality in clinical practice and further highlights the potential clinical implications of psychological distress for the relation between physical status and regret

    Cross-cultural adaptation and psychometric properties of the Spanish Quality in Psychiatric Care Forensic Inpatient Staff (QPC-FIPS) instrument

    Quality in Psychiatric Care-Forensic Inpatient Staff (QPC-FIPS) is an instrument of Swedish origin validated to measure the perception of the quality of mental health care provided by forensic psychiatry professionals. The aim of this study was to cross-culturally adapt the QPC-FIPS instrument and to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Spanish version of the instrument. A psychometric study was carried out. For validity, content validity, convergent validity and construct validity were included. For reliability, the analysis of internal consistency and temporal stability was included. The sample consisted of 153 mental health professionals from four Forensic Psychiatry units. The adapted Spanish version of the QPC-FIPS scale was configured with the same number of items and dimensions as the original. The psychometric properties, in terms of temporal stability and internal consistency, were adequate and the factor structure, such as the homogeneity of the dimensions of the Spanish version of the QPC-FIPS, was equivalent to the original Swedish version. We found that the QPC_FIPS-Spanish is a valid, reliable and easy-to-apply instrument for assessing the self-perception of professionals regarding the care they provide

    Real-life outcomes in biotypes of psychotic disorders based on neurocognitive performance

    Producción CientíficaAiming at discerning potential biotypes within the psychotic syndrome, we have recently reported the possible existence of two clusters or biotypes across schizophrenia and bipolar disorder characterized by their cognitive performance using the Brief Assessment of Cognition in Schizophrenia (BACS) instrument and validated with independent biological and clinical indexes (Fernández-Linsenbarth et al. in Schizophr Res 229:102–111, 2021). In this previous work, the group with larger cognitive deficits (N = 93, including 69 chronic schizophrenia, 17 first episodes (FE) of schizophrenia and 7 bipolar disorder patients) showed smaller thalamus and hippocampus volume and hyper-synchronic electroencephalogram than the group with milder deficits (N = 105, including 58 chronic schizophrenia, 25 FE and 22 bipolar disorder patients). We predicted that if these biotypes indeed corresponded to different cognitive and biological substrates, their adaptation to real life would be different. To this end, in the present work we have followed up the patients’ population included in that work at 1st and 3rd years after the date of inclusion in the 2021 study and we report on the statistical comparisons of each clinical and real-life outcomes between them. The first cluster, with larger cognitive deficits and more severe biological alterations, showed during that period a decreased capacity for job tenure (1st and 3rd years), more admissions to a psychiatric ward (1st year) and a higher likelihood for quitting psychiatric follow-up (3rd year). Patients in the second cluster, with moderate cognitive deficits, were less compliant with prescribed treatment at the 3rd year.     Incidence and risk factors for nonmelanoma skin cancer after heart transplantation

    [Abstract] Introduction. The incidence of skin cancer in heart transplant (HT) patients is higher than in the general population, reversing the proportion of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and basal cell carcinoma (BCC) with a predominance of the former. The etiologic role of new immunosuppressants is not well known. We sought to ascertain the incidence of SCC and BCC in HT patients and the risk factors for its occurrence. Patients and Methods. We report the incidence of all types of post-HT skin cancer, SCC, and BCC among adult HT patients in Spain (4089 subjects) as well as the influence of gender, age at heart transplant, immunosuppression, and sunlight exposure. Results. The incidence rates of SCC and BCC, per 1000 persons/year, were 8.5 and 5.2, respectively. Males had a higher risk of SCC but not BCC. Induction therapy increased the risk of SCC and BCC. The relative risk of mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) was 0.3 (0.2–0.6; P < .0005) and azathioprine (AZA) 1.8 (1.2–2.7; P < .0032) for SCC, whereas tacrolimus and cyclosporine showed no difference. The relative risk of BCC was not affected by any immunosuppressant. Conclusion. Age at transplantation >45 years, induction therapy use, and high sunshine zone were risk factors for both SCC and BCC. Different immunosuppressive agents have different risks of nonmelanoma skin cancer, as AZA increases the risk of SCC and MMF is a protective factor. The relative risk of BCC was not affected by any immunosuppressor

    The prognosis of noncutaneous, nonlymphomatous malignancy after heart transplantation: data from the spanish post-heart transplant tumour registry

    [Abstract] Introduction. Malignancy is a major complication in the management of solid organ transplant patients. Skin cancers show a better prognosis than other neoplasms, but not all others are equal: Ideally, patient management must take into account the natural history of each type of cancer in relation to the transplanted organs. We sought to determine the prognosis of various groups of noncutaneous nonlymphomatous (NCNL) cancers after heart transplantation (HT). Methods. We retrospectively analyzed the records of the Spanish Post-Heart-Transplant Tumour Registry, which collects data on posttransplant tumors in all patients who have undergone HT in Spain since 1984. Data were included in the study up to December 2008. We considered only the first NCNL post-HT tumors. Results. Of 4359 patients, 375 developed an NCNL cancer. The most frequent were cancers of the lung (n = 97; 25.9%); gastrointestinal tract (n = 52; 13.9%); prostate gland (n = 47; 12.5%; 14.0% of men), bladder (n = 32; 8.5%), liver (n = 14; 3.7%), and pharynx (n = 14; 3.7%), as well as Kaposi's sarcoma (n = 11; 2.9%). The corresponding Kaplan-Meier survival curves differed significantly (P < .0001; log-rank test), with respective survival rates of 47%, 72%, 91%, 73%, 36%, 64%, and 73% at 1 year versus 26%, 62%, 89%, 56%, 21%, 64%, and 73% at 2 years; and 15%, 51%, 77%, 42%, 21%, 64%, and 52% at 5 years post-diagnosis, respectively. Conclusion. Mortality among HT patients with post-HT NCNL solid organ cancers was highest for cancers of the liver or lung (79%–85% at 5 years), and lowest for prostate cancer (23%)

    Lung cancer after heart transplantation: results from a large multicenter registry

    [Abstract] In this study we analyzed Spanish Post-Heart-Transplant Tumour Registry data for adult heart transplantation (HT) patients since 1984. Median post-HT follow-up of 4357 patients was 6.7 years. Lung cancer (mainly squamous cell or adenocarcinoma) was diagnosed in 102 (14.0% of patients developing cancers) a mean 6.4 years post-HT. Incidence increased with age at HT from 149 per 100 000 person-years among under-45s to 542 among over-64s; was 4.6 times greater among men than women; and was four times greater among pre-HT smokers (2169 patients) than nonsmokers (2188). The incidence rates in age-at-diagnosis groups with more than one case were significantly greater than GLOBOCAN 2002 estimates for the general Spanish population, and comparison with published data on smoking and lung cancer in the general population suggests that this increase was not due to a greater prevalence of smokers or former smokers among HT patients. Curative surgery, performed in 21 of the 28 operable cases, increased Kaplan–Meier 2−year survival to 70% versus 16% among inoperable patients
