Phylogenetic relationships among five marine Catfish species (Pisces: Ariidae) from Mexico
The systematics of the marine catfish of the family Ariidae is controversial because at the present time the number

REPLACEMENT OF FISH MEAL BY SOLID STATE FERMENTED LUPIN (LUPINUS ALBUS) MEAL WITH LACTOBACILLUS PLANTARUM 299V: EFFECT ON GROWTH AND IMMUNE STATUS OF JUVENILE ATLANTIC SALMON (SALMO SALAR)
The aim of this study was to assess quality of solid state fermented (SSF) lupin with Lactobacillus plantarum 299v, and its effects (on growth, feed utilization, digestibility and immunity) of juvenile Atlantic salmon (Salim solar), when used as fish meal replacer. Five experimental diets were formulated to provide 40% crude protein and 21% dietary lipid (dry matter basis) with the raw or fermented lupin meal-based protein source replacing fish meal at 15% and 30%. Triplicate groups of fish (averaging 3.53 +/- 0.05 g) were fed with experimental diets for 8 weeks. Fermentation process modified nutrient profile of lupin meal and enriched it with lactic, citric and acetic acids. Fish in the FL15% group showed a higher (P<0.05) final body weight, weight gain, FCR, SGR, and PER compared to those of C group. Apparent digestibility coefficient (ADC) of protein and nitrogen-free extract showed significantly higher values in FL15% experimental group, compared to those shown in C group. Fish in the FL15 % group showed a higher (P<0.05) lysozyme activity and leucocyte respiratory burst compared to that shown by fish samples in the C experimental group: phagocytic activity did not record differences among experimental groups. In conclusion, replacement of fish meal by raw or fermented lupin meal did not compromise growth, apparent digestibility coefficients and immune status of juvenile Atlantic salmon and even improved fish performance when supplemented at 15%
Compilation of the Antimicrobial Compounds Produced by Burkholderia Sensu Stricto
Due to the increase in multidrug-resistant microorganisms, the investigation of novel or more efficient antimicrobial compounds is essential. The World Health Organization issued a list of priority multidrug-resistant bacteria whose eradication will require new antibiotics. Among them, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Enterobacteriaceae are in the “critical” (most urgent) category. As a result, major investigations are ongoing worldwide to discover new antimicrobial compounds. Burkholderia, specifically Burkholderia sensu stricto, is recognized as an antimicrobial-producing group of species. Highly dissimilar compounds are among the molecules produced by this genus, such as those that are unique to a particular strain (like compound CF66I produced by Burkholderia cepacia CF-66) or antimicrobials found in a number of species, e.g., phenazines or ornibactins. The compounds produced by Burkholderia include N-containing heterocycles, volatile organic compounds, polyenes, polyynes, siderophores, macrolides, bacteriocins, quinolones, and other not classified antimicrobials. Some of them might be candidates not only for antimicrobials for both bacteria and fungi, but also as anticancer or antitumor agents. Therefore, in this review, the wide range of antimicrobial compounds produced by Burkholderia is explored, focusing especially on those compounds that were tested in vitro for antimicrobial activity. In addition, information was gathered regarding novel compounds discovered by genome-guided approaches

The Parkinson's Disease Sleep Scale–2 (PDSS‐2): Validation of the Spanish Version and Its Relationship With a Roommate‐Based Version
ABSTRACT
Background
Because of the prevalence and impact of sleep disorders in Parkinson's disease (PD), valid instruments for their evaluation and monitoring are necessary. However, some nocturnal sleep disorders may go unnoticed by patients themselves.
Objectives
To validate a pan‐Spanish version of the Parkinson's Disease Sleep Scale Version 2 (PDSS‐2) and to test the relationships between the PDSS‐2 and a PDSS‐2 roommate version.
Methods
PD patients (n = 399) from seven Spanish‐speaking countries were included. In addition to the tested PDSS‐2 scales, valid measures for sleep disorders and both motor and nonmotor manifestations were applied. Acceptability, dimensionality, reliability, precision, and construct validity were explored, as well as discrepancies and agreement between the PDSS‐2 and the roommate version.
Results
PDSS‐2 showed negligible floor and ceiling effects. Four factors (57% of the variance) were identified. Reliability parameters were satisfactory: alpha = 0.84; item homogeneity coefficient = 0.27; corrected item total correlation = 0.28 to 0.61; and test‐retest reliability (average kappa = 0.70; intraclass correlation coefficient [ICC] = 0.83). The standard error of measurement was 5.84, and correlations with other scales assessing nocturnal sleep were high (rS = 0.62–0.56). In comparison to the patient‐based total score, the by proxy total score showed no significant difference, high correlation (rS = 0.70), and acceptable agreement (ICC = 0.69), but there were discrepancies in two or more points in 18% of item scores.
Conclusions
The Spanish version of the PDSS‐2 has shown satisfactory clinimetric attributes. Acceptability and precision data are presented for the first time. The PDSS‐2 roommate version could be useful to complement the patient‐based evaluation, but additional studies are needed
