    Optical Amplifiers for Next-Generation Telecommunication

    The continuing growth of telecommunication networks is currently dominated by fiber optics (or optical networking). Optical fiber has become the guided medium of choice in telecommunications, and associated optoelectronic technologies have become important such as optical fiber itself and optical amplifiers. Optical amplifiers can operate in the long distance using fiber optic carrying data and information in communication links. Some mechanisms are able to amplify electromagnetic signal corresponding to kinds of optical amplifiers. In doped fiber amplifiers and bulk laser sources, a stimulated emission in the amplifier’s gain media causes amplification of incoming electromagnetic spectrum. In semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA), electron-hole interaction will occur. For Raman amplifier (RA), its scattering of incoming source with phonons in the lattice of the gain media will produce photons coherent with the incoming photons. Using the simulation, both amplifiers are simulated and compared by in-line amplifiers to allow and keep a better signal from material and geometry disturbance

    Movie recommender chatbot based on Dialogflow

    Currently, the online movie streaming business is growing rapidly, such as Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, HBO, and Apple TV. The recommender system helps customers in getting information about movies that are in accordance with their wishes. Meanwhile, the development of messaging platform technology has made it easier for many people to communicate instantly. Utilizing a messaging platform to build a recommender system for movies, provides special benefits because people often access the messaging platform all the time. In the Indonesian language, there are many slang terms that the system must recognize. In this study, we build a chatbot on a messaging platform which users can interact with the system in natural language (in Indonesian language) and get recommendations. We use rule-based and maximum likelihood as a method in natural language processing (NLP), and content-based filtering for the recommendation process. The recommender system interaction is built through a conversation mechanism that will form a conversational recommender system. The interaction is based on a chatbot which is built using Dialogflow and implemented on the telegram. We use the accuracy of recommendations and user satisfaction to evaluate the system performance. The results obtained from the user study indicate that the NLP approach provides a positive experience for users. In addition, the system also produces an accuracy value of 83%

    Perancangan dan Implementasi Virtual Local Area Network (Vlan) untuk Optimalisasi Bandwidth Jaringan: Studi Kasus Universitas Baiturrahmah

    Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) merupakan sebuah metode yang sering digunakan untuk  mendistribusikan beberapa segment jaringan yang berbeda pada perangkat router dengan interface ethernet fisik yang terbatas. Dengan adanya VLAN ini dapat membuat sangat banyak segment LAN dalam sebuah interface. Hal ini mengakibatkan suatu network dapat dikonfigurasi secara virtual tanpa harus menuruti lokasi fisik peralatan. Penggunaan VLAN akan membuat pengaturan jaringan menjadi sangat fleksibel dimana dapat dibuat segmen yang bergantung pada organisasi atau departemen tanpa bergantung pada lokasi workstation. Kelebihan dari model jaringan dengan VLAN adalah bahwa tiap-tiap workstation/ user yang tergabung dalam satu VLAN dapat tetap saling berhubungan walaupun terpisah secara fisik. Dengan memanfaatkan berbagai teknik, khususnya teknik bridging dan penggunaan hardware yang lebih baik (antara lain router dan switch), maka akan memberikan solusi bagi instansi yang ingin mengembangkan jaringan VLAN. Konsep Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) inilah yang diharapkan dapat memberikan hasil yang lebih handal dibanding Local area Network (LAN). Dari penelitian ini menghasilkan sebuah Perancangan dan Implementasi Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) untuk Optimalisasi Bandwidth dalam Jaringan Universitas Baiturrahmah. Router Mikrotik dan Switch Mikrotik dengan penerapan metode Switching. Metode Switching menentukan bagaimana switch menerima,memproses dan meneruskan ethernet frame di layer 2. Dari metode yang digunakan mampu menunjukkan fungsionalitasnya yaitu melakukan pemisahan jaringan menjadi sub jaringan. Serta berdasarkan hasil pengujian bahwa VLAN ID yang di konfigurasi mampu berjalan dan dapat dimpelementasikan pada sisi client dalam jaringan Universitas Baiturrahmah
