Determination of the intrinsic behavior of polymers using digital image correlation combined with video-monitored testing
AbstractThree methods for the determination of the large-strain behavior of ductile polymers are compared in both tension and compression. Each method relies on some (non-contact) measurement of the strain and some approximations in the calculation of stress. The strain measurement techniques include digital image correlation (DIC) and two techniques of video-based extensometry: marker tracking and area variation monitoring. Since the specimens are inevitably subject to structural plastic instabilities (necking in tension, barreling in compression) the strain and stress states are no longer uniform in the gauge section after the peak load. Under such circumstances, it is demonstrated that the three experimental methods can lead to significant differences. It is inferred from the comparative analysis that the method based on vertical marker tracking is not reliable. Validated by DIC, video-based area variation is shown to be a simple alternative way to obtain an excellent estimate of the intrinsic true stress–strain behavior of the polymer
Net Charge on a Noble Gas Atom Adsorbed on a Metallic Surface
Adsorbed noble gas atoms donate (on the average) a fraction of an electronic
charge to the substrate metal. The effect has been experimentally observed as
an adsorptive change in the electronic work function. The connection between
the effective net atomic charge and the binding energy of the atom to the metal

Parton-Hadron Duality in Unpolarised and Polarised Structure Functions
We study the phenomenon of parton-hadron duality in both polarised and
unpolarised electron proton scattering using the HERMES and the Jefferson Lab
data, respectively. In both cases we extend a systematic perturbative QCD based
analysis to the integrals of the structure functions in the resonance region.
After subtracting target mass corrections and large x resummation effects, we
extract the remaining power corrections up to order 1/Q^2. We find a sizeable
suppression of these terms with respect to analyses using deep inelastic
scattering data. The suppression appears consistently in both polarised and
unpolarised data, except for the low Q^2 polarised data, where a large negative
higher twist contribution remains. Possible scenarios generating this behavior

Nonlinear effects in resonant layers in solar and space plasmas
The present paper reviews recent advances in the theory of nonlinear driven
magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) waves in slow and Alfven resonant layers. Simple
estimations show that in the vicinity of resonant positions the amplitude of
variables can grow over the threshold where linear descriptions are valid.
Using the method of matched asymptotic expansions, governing equations of
dynamics inside the dissipative layer and jump conditions across the
dissipative layers are derived. These relations are essential when studying the
efficiency of resonant absorption. Nonlinearity in dissipative layers can
generate new effects, such as mean flows, which can have serious implications
on the stability and efficiency of the resonance
Multiwavelength studies of MHD waves in the solar chromosphere: An overview of recent results
The chromosphere is a thin layer of the solar atmosphere that bridges the
relatively cool photosphere and the intensely heated transition region and
corona. Compressible and incompressible waves propagating through the
chromosphere can supply significant amounts of energy to the interface region
and corona. In recent years an abundance of high-resolution observations from
state-of-the-art facilities have provided new and exciting ways of
disentangling the characteristics of oscillatory phenomena propagating through
the dynamic chromosphere. Coupled with rapid advancements in
magnetohydrodynamic wave theory, we are now in an ideal position to thoroughly
investigate the role waves play in supplying energy to sustain chromospheric
and coronal heating. Here, we review the recent progress made in
characterising, categorising and interpreting oscillations manifesting in the

Observation of Scaling Violations in Scaled Momentum Distributions at HERA
Charged particle production has been measured in deep inelastic scattering
(DIS) events over a large range of and using the ZEUS detector. The
evolution of the scaled momentum, , with in the range 10 to 1280
, has been investigated in the current fragmentation region of the Breit
frame. The results show clear evidence, in a single experiment, for scaling

Complex relationships among personality traits, job characteristics, and work behaviors
The aim of the study was to investigate the additive, mediating, and moderating effects of personality traits and job characteristics on work behaviors. Job applicants (N = 161) completed personality questionnaires measuring extraversion, neuroticism, achievement motivation, and experience seeking. One and a half years later, supervisors rated the applicants' job performance, and the job incumbents completed questionnaires about skill variety, autonomy, and feedback, work stress, job satisfaction, work self-efficacy, and propensity to leave. LISREL was used to test 15 hypotheses. Perceived feedback mediated the relationship between achievement motivation and job performance. Extraversion predicted work self-efficacy and job satisfaction. Work stress mediated the relationship between neuroticism and job satisfaction. Job satisfaction and experience seeking were related to propensity to leave. Autonomy, skill variety, and feedback were related to job satisfaction

Pulmonary fibrosis is characterised by the accumulation of extracellular matrix collagen, fibroblast proliferation and migration, and loss of alveolar gas exchange units. Previous studies of pulmonary fibrosis have mainly focused on the fibro-proliferative process in the lungs. However, the molecular mechanism by which sirolimus promotes lung fibrosis remains elusive.
