Automatic Face Recognition System Based on Local Fourier-Bessel Features

We present an automatic face verification system inspired by known properties of biological systems. In the proposed algorithm the whole image is converted from the spatial to polar frequency domain by a Fourier-Bessel Transform (FBT). Using the whole image is compared to the case where only face image regions (local analysis) are considered. The resulting representations are embedded in a dissimilarity space, where each image is represented by its distance to all the other images, and a Pseudo-Fisher discriminator is built. Verification test results on the FERET database showed that the local-based algorithm outperforms the global-FBT version. The local-FBT algorithm performed as state-of-the-art methods under different testing conditions, indicating that the proposed system is highly robust for expression, age, and illumination variations. We also evaluated the performance of the proposed system under strong occlusion conditions and found that it is highly robust for up to 50% of face occlusion. Finally, we automated completely the verification system by implementing face and eye detection algorithms. Prognosis related to staging systems for chronic lymphocytic leukemia

CONTEXT: Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is a clonal lymphoproliferative disorder, characterized by B lymphocytic proliferation. CLL is the most frequent adult leukemia in Western countries, accounting for 25 to 30% of all white leukemic patients. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate clinical and staging characteristics in prognosis of chronic lymphocytic leukemia. DESIGN: Evaluation of clinical-staging data. SETTING: Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP) - Escola Paulista de Medicina / Universidade de Alfenas. SAMPLE: 73 patients diagnosed from 1977 to 1994. MAIN MEASUREMENTS: Sex, ethnic origin, age, lymphadenopathy, splenomegaly, hepatomegaly, three or more areas of lymphoid enlargement, hemoglobin (g/dl), lymphocytes/mm³, Platelets/mm³ RESULTS: Mean survival of patients was 76 months, median age was 65 years, ranging from 33 to 87. Forty-four patients (60.3%) were male and 29 (39.7%) female. VARIÁVEIS ESTUDADAS: Sexo, origem étnica, idade, linfadenomegalia, esplenomegalia, hepatomegalia, três ou mais áreas com aumento linfóide, hemoglobina, linfocitos, plaquetas. RESULTADOS: A sobrevida média dos pacientes foi 76 meses, idade média de 65 anos, variando de 33 a 87 anos. Quarenta e quatro pacientes (60,3%) eram do sexo masculino e 29 (39,7%) do sexo feminino. A análise univariada mostrou que o nível de hemoglobina (P = 0,001), número de plaquetas (P = 0,03), linfocitose periférica (P = 0,03), número de áreas linfóides acometidas (P = 0,01), assim como os estadiamentos de Rai (P = 0,02), Rai modificado (0,007) e Binet (P = 0,003) relacionaram-se significantemente com a sobrevida. A análise multivariada, pela regressão de Cox, demonstrou que o sistema de Binet determina melhor o prognóstico do que os estadiamentos de Rai e Rai modificado. O conhecimento das diferentes apresentações dos tumores primários e secundários à ressonância magnética e sua correlação com dados da histologia são essenciais para o correto raciocínio diagnóstico. A saúde do bombeiro militar como objeto de política pública estadual : uma contribuição para execução do Plano Estratégico do CB/PMPR 2017-2025

Tal intento harmoniza-se com o vigente Plano Estratégico da instituição para o período de 2017-2019, o qual foi dividido para fins de melhor entendimento, acompanhamento e execução, em Eixos, Objetivos, Estratégias, Indicadores e Metas. No Eixo Aprendizado e Crescimento, consta o Objetivo 4 - Promover a Manutenção da Saúde do Efetivo, através do acompanhamento dos Indicadores: Aprovação no Teste de Aptidão Física (TAF) e Taxa de Redução do Índice de Absenteísmo por motivo de saúde pessoa, sendo estabelecida ainda, a Meta de 90% ou mais no primeiro Indicador e de 60% ou mais no segundo. Para o alcance destes indicadores foi proposto: - Estabelecer um Programa de Saúde Preventiva ao Efetivo; - Desenvolver um Programa de Hábitos Saudáveis; - Desenvolver um Estudo para mapear as reais necessidades de atenção à saúde do efetivo no interior do Estado (identificação das causas de adoecimento) e, - Desenvolver um Programa de Diminuição do Absenteísmo. Frente a existência de um Plano Estratégico do Comando do Corpo de Bombeiros, com vigência entre os anos de 2017 a 2025, o qual, contempla uma série de ações na área de Saúde Preventiva, verifica-se ambiente propício para a implantação de um amplo programa visando a consecução dessas ações. Fourth generation head fracture in ceramic-on-polyethylene bearing after hip revision surgery: a case report

Fourth generation ceramic bearings (BIOLOX delta, CeramTec AG; Phlochingen, Germany) were developed to reduce wear debris and improve fracture resistance. A case of a fourth generation head fracture in ceramic-on-polyethylene (COP) coupling after hip revision surgery is reported. A 58-year-old man was admitted to our department for increasing hip pain following a direct trauma which occurred during skiing activity 4 months before. Six years earlier, he had undergone a right cementless revision surgery with a 36-mm BIOLOX delta femoral head on polyethylene liner for metallosis and foreign body reaction after primary total hip replacement for hip osteoarthritis. At admission, radiological evaluation revealed a fracture of ceramic femoral head requiring a new revision surgery. Extensive synovectomy, lavage and capsulectomy were performed. Both acetabular cup and femoral stem were well fixed with no damage of trunnion, and therefore they were retained. A 36-mm internal diameter polyethylene acetabular liner was inserted along a 36-mm BIOLOX delta head with a BioBall adapter XL. The postoperative course was uncomplicated. At 1-year follow-up, the patient had a complete functional recovery. To our knowledge, BIOLOX delta ceramic femoral head fracture after COP hip revision surgery has not been previously reported

Our time is marked by ambiguity, whose implications for the subject and institutions are realized in the absolutization of individualities and the absence of meaning. The christian experience is challenged by this context, being motivated to revisit, discern and propose its references. The objective of this work is to analyze the notions of vocation, freedom and evangelization in the light of the experience of discernment according to Francis with a view to identifying possible links between such guidelines of the christian experience and the current reality. These notions help us to understand the importance of discernment in the face of contemporary pluralisms.Nosso tempo é marcado pela ambiguidade, cujas implicações para o sujeito e instituições são sentidas na absolutização das individualidades e ausência de sentidos. A experiência cristã é desafiada por esse contexto, sendo motivada a revisitar, discernir e repropor seus referenciais. O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar as noções de vocação, liberdade e evangelização à luz da experiência do discernimento, segundo Francisco, tendo em vista a identificação de possíveis articulações entre tais pautas da experiência cristã e a realidade atual. Analysis of carbides in multi-component cast iron design based on high entropy alloys concepts

Nowadays, the concept of high entropy alloys (HEAs) has expanded the limits of metallurgy and high-quality metallurgical HEAs ingots have already been successfully obtained on an industrial scale. High Chromium Cast Irons (HCCI) and Multi-Component Cast Irons (MCCI) are known to be a useful material for applications when abrasion resistance is required. Inspired by the concepts of high-entropy alloys, a base HCCI was modified, by adding other carbide-forming elements, at concentrations higher than what is currently used, in order to develop a new class of white cast iron, High Entropy White Cast Iron (HEWCI). The characterization of carbides precipitated during the HEWCI solidification was performed by scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, electron backscattered diffraction (SEM/EDS/EBSD) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). With the characterization techniques employed, the as-cast microstructure obtained of HEWCI is composed of approximately 50% of austenite matrix and 50% of different types of carbides, MC, M7 C3 and M2 C carbides
