    Pada dasarnya semua anak didunia adalah anak-anak cerdas, mempunyai bakat, baik, dan hebat. Namun, dewasa ini banyak sekali anak-anak melakukan tindakan-tindakan yang menyimpang dari nilai dan norma, seperti merokok di usia sekolah, mengkonsumsi narkoba, dan yang paling mengerikan adalah seks bebas yang kian marak dikalangan remaja. Apabila dilihat di diberita-berita atau diinternet, data pecandu narkoba dan seks bebas dikalangan remaja di Yogyakarta dari tahun-ketahun semakin meningkat dan diprediksikan bila tidak ada penanganan yang tepat jumlahnya akan terus meningkat. Data dari BKKBN (BKKN.go.id, 2010) 52 persen remaja medan sudah melakukan hubungan seks pranikah, Jakarta dan sekitarnya (Jabodetabek) 51 persen, remaja Surabaya 54 %, Bandung 47 persen, dan Yogyakarta terdapat 37 persen.Adanya berbagai permasalahan yang terjadi di kalangan remaja, orangtua dan pendidik tentunya prihatin atas tingginya jumlah dari tiap masalah yang ada. Apabila kita melihat masalah-masalah tersebut, akan terbesit berbagai pertanyaan seperti, mengapa hal itu bisa terjadi? Apakah selama ini cara orang tua dalam mendidik dan mengasuh ada yang salah? Lalu apa yang harus kita lakukan sejak dini sebagai orang tua untuk mencegah anak-anak kita melakukan hal-hal seperti diatas? Pertanyaan-pertanyaan seperti itu kita coba melihat dari sudut bagaimana pengasuhan yang dilakukan orangtua pada anak

    Latar belakang penelitian ini beranjak dari 2 alasan yaitu, alasan pertama, pendidikan awal merupakan pendidikan yang pen¬ting bagi anak. Hal ini terbukti Pendidikan Anak Usia Dini masuk dalam UU Sisdiknas tahun 2003. Namun kenyataannya, di lapang¬an terlihat berbagai masalah, baik yang terlihat dari anak didik itu sendiri maupun kemampuan pendidik yang dirasakan belum me¬ma¬dai untuk memberikan stimulasi yang tepat dan optimal pada anak didik. Alasan kedua keterampilan-keterampilan konseling pada pen¬didik TK untuk membantu penyelesaian hambatan penyesuaian diri anak belum pernah dilakukan. Adapun tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan ke¬terampilan pendidik TK dalam melakukan konseling pada anak yang mengalami hambatan penyesuaian diri di sekolah dengan menggunakan media gambar. Penelitian dilakukan dengan dua kali siklus dengan subyek penelitian adalah 4 orang guru TK di Sleman. Indikator keberhasilan penelitian dilihat dari meningkatnya keterampilan konseling pada pendidik dan pada anak, berkurang¬nya hambatan penyesuaian diri di TK. Secara ringkas hasil penelitian ini dapat dikatakan bahwa pertama, penelitian indakan ini dapat meningkatkan keterampilan konseling melalui media gambar pada para pendidik TK. Kedua, anak butuh pendekatan yang baik terlebih dahulu, sebelum proses konseling dilakukan. Ketiga salah satu keterampilan konseling untuk anak yang patut mendapat perhatian adalah menyatu dengan dunia anak sesungguhnya. Keempat, untuk memiliki keterampilan kon¬seling yang baik, diperlukan keuletan dan kesabaran, serta latihan terus menerus dalam menghadapi anak-anak. Saran dari pe¬ne¬litian ini adalah; pertama, siklus penelitian tidak hanya dua kali saja, karena diperlukan untuk melihat keajegan kemampuan guru dalam mengggunakan keterampilan konseling untuk anak. Kedua, pendidik harus terus meningkatkan keterampilannya dengan cara rutin me¬lakukan konseling, dan jangan lupa mencatat setiap reaksi dari anak, serta mengamati jika anak suatu saat muncul dampak dari konseling. Ketiga, diperlukan media gambar yang lebih variatif agar anak tidak bosan, serta perlunya pendekatan yang menyatu dengan anak sebelum proses konseling dilakukan.     Prediktor Permasalahan Perilaku Anak Usia Tk = Predictors of Behavioral Problems of Kindergarteners

    ABSTRACT Behavior problem is often observed among kindergarteners. Perhaps it is a manifestation of a normal developmental process. Several factors have been identified as predictors of the problem, namely social maturity of the child, competence of the educator, and involvement of the parent. However, studies into the relative strength of each predictor, particularly in the social and cultural settings of Javanese societies, have been rarely. Therefore, the objectives of this research are: (1), to extend studies on the predictors of behavior problems among children of kindergartens in Yogyakarta(2), to identify the relative strength of the predictors(3), to understand the pattern of relationship between the predictorsand (4), to obtain an estimate of the distribution of behavior problems among kindergarten children of Yogyakarta. The writer\u27s hypotheses are stated as follows: There are negative correlations between educator\u27s competence in stimulating emotional and social development of children, social maturity of the child, and parental involvement in the children education, and their behavior problems. The characteristics of subjects are as follows: children of the age of 4 -6 yearshave neither physical disability nor diagnosable mental disorderand not of single parent family. Data were collected by the Vineland Social Maturity Scale (VSMS), and analyzed using path analysis procedu res. Multiple regression analysis shows that educator\u27s competence corre- lated significantly with behavior problem (r = -0.46, p 0.01). It contributes to 21.45% of the variance of behavior problem. However, other variables were not significant predictors, with r = 0.02 and p = 0.45 for social maturity and r = -0.01 and p = 0.33 for parent involvement. Descriptive analysis shows that the conduct/ restless domain, which indicates aggressive tendencies, was more common than other domains of behavioral problems. It was followed by the emotional/miserable domainand the least was the isolated/ immature domain. Exploratory analysis shows that educator\u27s experience, as measured by how many years he or she has been in the profession, and educational background were not significantly correlated with competence. In addition, the age of the father and the mother and their respective ed ucation significantly correlated to parental involvement.     Parental bonding as a predictor of hope in adolescents

    Hope enables individuals to cope with stressful situations by creating the expectation of a positive outcome. The existence of problematic behavior and psychological barriers in adolescents is partly due to their low level of hope, which is influenced by weak parent-child bonding. This study aims to determine the effect of parental bonding on hope among adolescents. Data were collected with an accidental sampling method from 400 participants in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The data were obtained using the Parental Bonding Instrument to measure the quality of parent-child attachment, and Snyder's Hope Scale to measure hope. They were analyzed using linear regression to establish the strength of the impact of parental bonding on hope. The results show that care and the autonomous parenting of the father and mother were strong predictors of hope in adolescents, while overprotection by the parents was not proven to predict such hope. The implications of the research can be used as a reference for parenting practice, and to guide adolescents both in the family and school contexts

    Hope plays an important role in individuals’ attempts to overcome various problems in a positive way and with positive results. This study aims to examine the effect of parent-child attachment on the existence of hope. The research method involved a quantitative approach. The accidental sampling technique was used to determine the sample and identified 400 adolescents consisting of junior and senior high school students aged 12-19 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Parent-child attachment was measured using the Parental Bonding Instrument, while expectation was measured using Snyder's Hope Scale. The data were analyzed using linear regression to predict the relationship between parent and child attachment and expectations. The results show that warm and loving care from the father (B = 0.37, p .001] and the mother (B = 0.47, p .001], as well as the provision of autonomy by the father (B = 0.52, p .001] and mother (B = 0.38, p .01] proved to be predictors of adolescent expectations, while over-protection from the father (B = 0.03, p .05]) and the mother (B = -0.18, p .05) were not predictors of the existence of hope. The implications of the research results could serve as a reference for the parenting practice and guidance to adolescents both in the contexts of family and school education

    Abstract Science began from the human admiration to both large and small scopes of nature. Human being as rational animal is equipped with curiosity. The characteristic of curiosity can be seen at their childhood. With simple questions to ask is a sign of desire to start to learn and to understand the universe. To have philosophy is essentially a trip to remember any activity everyone had done and enjoyed in their childhood. One of the appropriate ways to go into philosophical world is to pay attention to the children's questions. There is simple truth, yet important. From children themselves, adults can find wisdom to educate them by stimulating their potention. A psychological study based on epistemological approach is a good and significant bridge for educators and parents to understand children in their philosophical questions as efforts to learn finding the truth through science and knowledge. Furthermore, consistent with the cognitive concept in Psychology of Learning, the way to give meaning on the responses we given to the children's questions should be understood as a causa of the response. Therefore, the use of reason and sensorial meaning in children will be formed early. One of the ways is giving opportunity for children to make identification on their own questions, namely by giving responses that can stimulate their thought. It is significant to develop their own ideas so that they will continuously grow in using thinking levels from the simple to complex ones

    Influence of Peers’ Conformity and Sensation Seeking towards Smoking Behavior on Adolescents

    The development of adolescents’ social life is marked by the increase of peers’ influence in their lives. Most of their time is spent to have a relation or to have asocialization with their peers; when their peers behave well, the teenagers will also behave well and in contrast, if their peers behave bad, the teenagers will also behave bad. This research aims to examine the influence of peers’ conformity and sensation seeking towards smoking behavior. In addition, this research uses quantitative approach with ex-post facto research type. The sample of this research simple random sampling technique with the total of sample is 381 students. The results of this research are: 1) peers’ conformity  and sensation seeking are two factors that collectively can influence the students’ smoking behavior significantly;  2) the contribution given by peers’ conformity  and sensation seeking towards students’ smoking behavior is 62,2% and the remaining 37,8% is influenced by other factors besides peers’ conformity  and sensation seeking
