TOI 122b and TOI 237b: Two Small Warm Planets Orbiting Inactive M Dwarfs Found by TESS
We report the discovery and validation of TOI 122b and TOI 237b, two warm planets transiting inactive M dwarfs observed by the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). Our analysis shows that TOI 122b has a radius of 2.72 ± 0.18 R â and receives 8.8 ± 1.0 times Earth's bolometric insolation, and TOI 237b has a radius of 1.44±0.12 R â and receives 3.7 ± 0.5 times Earth's insolation, straddling the 6.7 Earth insolation that Mercury receives from the Sun. This makes these two of the cooler planets yet discovered by TESS, even on their 5.08 and 5.43 day orbits. Together, they span the small-planet radius valley, providing useful laboratories for exploring volatile evolution around M dwarfs. Their relatively nearby distances (62.23 ± 0.21 pc and 38.11 ± 0.23 pc, respectively) make them potentially feasible targets for future radial velocity follow-up and atmospheric characterization, although such observations may require substantial investments of time on large telescopes
Nutritional potassium requirement for laying Japanese quails
The objective of this study was to evaluate the potassium requirement for laying Japanese quails. Two hundred and forty quails were distributed in a randomized block design, with five treatments and six replicates, with eight birds each. The treatments consisted of a basal diet deficient in potassium (K) (2.50 g/kg), supplemented with potassium carbonate, to replace the inert, to reach levels of 2.50, 3.50, 4.50, 5.50 and 6.50 (g/kg) of K in the diet. There was a quadratic effect of K levels on feed intake, egg production, egg mass and feed conversion per egg mass and per egg dozen, estimating the requirements of 4.26, 4.41, 4.38, 4.43 and 4.48 (g/kg) of K diet, respectively. There was no significant effect on the levels of K in the diet on egg weight, albumen weight, percentage of yolk or shell and yolk color. However, yolk and shell weights reduced and the albumen percentage increased linearly with increasing levels of K in the diet. Despite the reduction of shell weight, the increased levels of K did not influence the specific gravity and shell thickness. The use of 4.41 g/kg of potassium is recommended in the diet for laying Japanese quails
The balloon experimental twin telescope for infrared interferometry (BETTII): An experiment for high angular resolution in the far-infrared
The Balloon Experimental Twin Telescope for Infrared Interferometry (BETTII) is a new balloon-borne far-infrared interferometer, being designed to provide spatially-resolved spectroscopy in the far infrared (30â90 ÎŒm). The combination of an 8-meter baseline with a double-Fourier Michelson interferometer allows the identification and separation of closely-spaced astronomical sources, while also providing a low-resolution spectrum for each source. In this wavelength range, BETTII will provide subarcsecond angular resolution, a capability unmatched by other far-infrared facilities. This paper provides an overview of the entire design of the BETTII experiment, with a short discussion of the predicted performance on flight
