The hypoxic transcription factor KlMga2 mediates the response to oxidative stress and influences longevity in the yeast Kluyveromyces lactis

Hypoxia is defined as the decline of oxygen availability, depending on environmental supply and cellular consumption rate. The decrease in O2 results in reduction of available energy in facultative aerobes. The response and/or adaptation to hypoxia and other changing environmental conditions can influence the properties and functions of membranes by modifying lipid composition. In the yeast Kluyveromyces lactis, the KlMga2 gene is a hypoxic regulatory factor for lipid biosynthesis-fatty acids and sterols-and is also involved in glucose signaling, glucose catabolism and is generally important for cellular fitness. In this work we show that, in addition to the above defects, the absence of the KlMGA2 gene caused increased resistance to oxidative stress and extended lifespan of the yeast, associated with increased expression levels of catalase and SOD genes. We propose that KlMga2 might also act as a mediator of the oxidative stress response/adaptation, thus revealing connections among hypoxia, glucose signaling, fatty acid biosynthesis and ROS metabolism in K. lactis

EQUIDADE DE GÊNERO EM NÍSIA FLORESTA

Nesse artigo iremos falar de uma importante personagem de nossa história. Uma pensadora feminista brasileira, que utilizou o pseudônimo Nísia Floresta e nas primeiras décadas do século XIX para publicar e escrever sobre as diferenças de gênero existentes na sua época, fazer denuncias sobre a maneira que as mulheres eram tratadas no mundo das letras, versar sobre a educação feminina e propor uma sociedade que reconhecesse as diferenças e respeitasse as pessoas independente de gênero, classe social, instrução, idade, origem. Nísia fundou escolas para as meninas, pois naquela época apenas os meninos eram incentivados a estudar e tinham acesso a educação formal, viajou e morou na Europa, despertando a admiração de intelectuais, como Auguste Comte. Nesse artigo iremos mostrar um pouco da sua obra Direito das Mulheres e Injustiça dos Homens (1832). Com essa obra poderemos compreender porque Nísia é considerada a primeira feminista brasileira, sendo uma mulher que esteve à frente de seu tempo, lutando pela equidade de gênero, refletindo sobre as relações de gênero

Rancang Bangun Prototype Mesin Pemotong Rumput Kendali Jarak Jauh Menggunakan Aplikasi Android

ABSTRACTThis research develops a prototype of a remotely controlled lawn mower using Android smartphone with Bluetooth connection to avoid the risk of accidents. The lawn mower is controlled by an Android application developed with Mit App Inventor using HC-05 Bluetooth module connection. This prototype uses a DC motor as a driving motor to rotate the blade with an LM393 speed sensor using Arduino Uno microcontroller. The developed system is equipped with an option of grass height that can be adjusted. The test of HC-05 Bluetooth module resulted the maximum acceptable connection distance in the open space is 80 m and the maximum connection distance with a barrier is 10.45 m. DC motor speed tests are carried out on the lawn mowers at no load and loaded conditions. The results showed a slight decrease in motor speed at the grass height of 6 cm and 4 cm, but at 2 cm height the rotation dropped significantly.Keywords: lawn mower, remote control, Arduino Uno, Bluetooth, Androi

A New Model for Pricing Collateralized OTC Derivatives

This paper presents a new model for pricing OTC derivatives subject to collateralization. It allows for collateral posting adhering to bankruptcy laws. As such, the model can back out the market price of a collateralized contract. This framework is very useful for valuing outstanding derivatives. Using a unique dataset, we find empirical evidence that credit risk alone is not overly important in determining credit-related spreads. Only accounting for both collateral arrangement and credit risk can sufficiently explain unsecured credit costs. This finding suggests that failure to properly account for collateralization may result in significant mispricing of derivatives. We also empirically gauge the impact of collateral agreements on risk measurements. Our findings indicate that there are important interactions between market and credit risk

Perancangan Sistem Otomatisasi Penyalaan Lampu, Kipas Angin, dan Proyektor Dalam Ruang Kelas

In general, the control of using electronic equipment in the classroom manually. Sometimes lecturers or students forget to turn off electronic equipment after the class so that there is a waste of electrical energy use. Application of automation of using electronic equipment is one solution to overcome these problems so that electrical energy becomes more efficient. This study designed a prototype of an automation system for electrical equipment in the classroom, namely lights, fans, and projectors. This system was also to turn off the electricity when nobody was in the class. The automation system controls the use of electrical energy in devices in the classroom through on-off control of the electrical network components connected to each device. In this design, the PIR sensor can detect the presence of people up to a distance of 7 meters. The Arduino Uno controller activates the lights in the class when the LDR Sensor detects a light intensity of less than 200 Lux. Then, the fan is active when the LM35 sensor detects the temperature in the class above 28oC. The FC-04 sensor detects the sound of clapping for control of projector ignition by the controller

FILÓSOFAS EM TEMPOS SOMBRIOS

Escrever para um dossiê sobre as filósofas em meio a uma crise mundial, e uma pandemia foi um grande desafio. Decidi escrever sobre algumas filósofas que dedicaram suas vidas para lutar por um mundo melhor, além de denunciar alguns problemas da sociedade que viviam. Filósofas que viveram em meio ao caos, como guerras, altos índices de mortalidade, conflitos étnicos, governos fascistas, ditaduras, e nos deixaram seus escritos como legado. Trata de um ensaio, inspirado em pesquisas sobre as mulheres na Filosofia, e as relações de gênero na filosofia, que tenho desenvolvido desde a década de 90, quando ainda não tínhamos grupos de trabalhos sobre Gênero e Filosofia em associações filosóficas e haviam pouquíssimas publicações no Brasil sobre o tema. Trata de um texto inédito, contextualizado com o momento atual, em meio a uma pandemia, que já somam mais de cinquenta e sete mil mortos no Brasil, cabendo a nós, perguntarmos, o que as filósofas tem a nos dizer e nos ensinar sobre viver em tempos sombrios?
