    Asses Humoral Immunity of Wistar Strains Rats (Rattus Norvegicus L.) Which Given Ethanol Extractbuas Buas (Premna Pubescens Blume) Leaves

    The aim of the research was to to assess the effect of ethanol extract Premna pubescens leaves on humoral immunity and the body weight of rats (Rattus norvegicus L.). The white rats use 24 tails and devided into 4 groups with each group replicates 6 times. There are A0 as control which give with aquadest, A1 give with ethanol extract of Premna pubescens leaves, A2 give with ethanol extract of Premna pubescens leaves and Sheep Red Blood Cells (SRBC), and A3 give with SRBC only. White Wistar rats aged 3 months with body weight 100-300 grams. Aquadest and ethanol extracts of Premna pubescens given orally every day and SRBC given by injections on the 8th and 15th day . The rats blood taken by decapitation on 31th day. Measurements antibody titer of the rat as humoral immunity used hemagglutination method using a V microplate 96. The results were analyzed statistically with ANOVA. The result showed that the antibody titer at A2 increased significantly , where t (65,78) > t table (4,94). This suggests that the ethanol extract of Premna pubescens leaves influence the humoral imunnity of Wistar strains rats using SRBC, The result of body weight statistically, tcount 0.23 < ttable 3.10. It means that ethanol extract of Premna pubescens leaves did not influence the body weigh

    The Effects of Problem-Based Learning with Mind Mapping to Enhance Students’ Creative Thinking Skills and Learning Outcomes

    The quality of Indonesia’s education need to obtain a very serious attention because its level tends to be decreasing. An effort to be done is by applying the learning innovation on education. Based on the observation to be conducted at Methodist Junior High Schools, the learning of Biology had not still applied the variation of learning models yet. This study aimed to give a wide description about the effects of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) with mind mapping on students’ creative thinking skills and learning outcomes. This study was a quasi-experimental design with the pre- and post-test design. The population of this study were the whole students of Methodist Junior High Schools all over Medan, that were the seventh graders with an accreditation of A, namely SMP Methodist 1 Medan, SMP Methodist 5 Medan and SMP Methodist 6 Medan Academic Year 2016/2017 in total of 3 classes each. The sample withdrawal was conducted using purposive sampling technique. The data analysis which was used by an independent t-test and Pearson test. The result showed that there were the effects of Problem-Based Learning with mind mapping on students’ learning outcomes where p = 0,000 &lt; 0,05, there were the effects of PBL with mind mapping on students’ creative thinking skills where p = 0,000 &lt; 0,05, there were the relationships between students’ creative thinking skills and learning outcomes taught by PBL with mind mapping where p = 0,000 &lt; 0,05. The teachers were suggested to be able to design and plan either the learning instruments or strategies, learning models, methods or media that can involve students more actively in the process of teaching and learning.     ANALISIS KEBUTUHAN PENGEMBANGAN BUKU AJAR GENETIKA MENDEL PADA MATAKULIAH GENETIKA DI UNIVERSITAS NEGERI MEDAN

    Ketersediaan buku ajar yang mengacu pada Permenristekdikti No. 44 Tahun 2015 bahwa wajib ditambah bentuk pembelajaran berupa penelitian, perancangan, atau pengembangan yaitu mengintegrasikan hasil penelitian dalam pembelajaran, serta didukung dengan Kurikulum Kerangka Kualifikasi Nasional Indonesia (KKNI) yaitu kegiatan mini riset adalah terbatas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kebutuhan pengembangan buku ajar pada topik Mendel matakuliah Genetika di Universitas Negeri Medan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif eksploratif. Subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa pendidikan biologi dan non kependidikan biologi yang telah atau sedang mengambil matakuliah Genetika. Sampel dipilih secara acak sebanyak 47 mahasiswa. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan kuesioner dan angket mahasiswa. Teknik analisis data dilakukan secara deskriptif kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 59% referensi yang digunakan mahasiswa dalam perkuliahan Genetika selama ini hanya berupa satu buku pegangan sendiri dan peminjaman buku di perpustakaan memiliki stok terbatas. Hasil angket analisis kebutuhan pengembangan buku ajar menunjukkan bahwa 78% kebutuhan pengembangan buku ajar Genetika berbasis riset perlu dilakukan. Berdasarkan data hasil penelitian tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa perlu dikembangkan buku ajar Genetika Mendel berbasis riset yang dapat memfasilitasi mahasiswa untuk belajar, baik dengan  pendidik maupun secara mandiri melalui Kurikulum Kerangka Kualifikasi Nasional Indonesia (KKNI) yang berlaku yaitu mini riset

    PENGARUH PEMBELAHAN MELINTANG PADA BIJI MANGGIS GARCINIA MANGOSTANA L TERHADAP TOTIPOTENSI PERTUMBUHAN TUNAS

    Garcinia mangostana L. merupakan salah satu spesies dari famili Guttiferae kaya senyawa dari golongan xanthon.Manggis memiliki juvenil yang lama. Salah satu metode yang dapat memecahkan masalah dalam perbanyakan tanaman manggis dalam jumlah yang banyak, bisa sepanjang musim dan menghasilkan tanaman yang seragam yaitu kultur in vitro. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menentukan konsentrasi terbaik antara Benzil Amino Purin (BAP) dan madu terhadap induksi tunas dari eksplan biji manggis yang belah tiga melintang secara in vitro. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan perlakuan BAP (0;3 mg/L) dan madu (3;6 mg/L) pada media MS (Murashige-Skoog) dengan pengamatan 70 hari setelah tanam (hst). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian BAP maupun madu mampu meningkatkan pembentukan tunas. Pemberian BAP dan madu berpengaruh nyata terhadap persentase terbentuknya tunas, waktu muncul tunas, jumlah tunas dan panjang tunas. Jumlah tunas terbanyak terdapat pada perlakuan 3 mg/L BAP sebanyak 20 tunas per biji. Kombinasi perlakuan dengan penambahan 3 mg/L BAP + 3 ml/L madu menghasilkan persentase terbentuk tunas tertinggi (100%); waktu muncul tunas tercepat 12,75 hst; dan panjang tunas tertinggi 1,86 cm. Pada penelitian ini telah berhasil menginduksi tunas dari biji manggis yang dibelah tiga melintang asal Bengkalis dengan penambahan BAP dan madu

    Kebutuhan tanaman kentang semakin meningkat namun produksinya semakin menurun. Produktifitas kentang sangat tergantung kepada kualitas benih kentang yang bebas patogen. Penggunaan manitol sebagai osmoregulator terhadap benih kentang dapat dilakukan secara in vitro yang mampu mendapatkan kultur yang bebas virus serta memiliki potensi yang besar untuk konservasi plasma nutfah. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui interaksi antara konsentrasi manitol dan penggunaan jenis bagian eksplan yang menghambat pertumbuhan planlet kentang sehingga dapat disimpan dalam waktu lama. Penelitian dilaksanakan bulan Januari sampai bulan Mei 2017 di Laboratorium Mikropropagasi Balai Bioteknologi.. Penelitian menggunakan metode Rancangan Kelompok Lengkap Teracak (RKLT) faktorial. Faktor pertama perlakuan media MS + Manitol pada taraf 0, 20, 40, 60, 80, 100 dan 120 g.L-1. Faktor kedua penggunaan jenis bagian eksplan pucuk dan buku ke-2. Pemberian perlakuan konsentrasi manitol 60 g.L-1 memberikan laju penghambatan yang optimum dengan menekan pertumbuhan tinggi planlet 58.77%; jumlah daun 60.77%; panjang akar 20.39%; dengan masa penyimpanan 3 bulan

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara konsep diri (X1) dengan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa kelas X Matematika dan Ilmu Alam (MIA) pada mata pelajaran biologi program lintas minat. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian yang menggunakan deskriptif studi korelasional. Sampel penelitian ini diambil dengan teknik total sampling yaitu seluruh siswa kelas X MIA SMA Negeri 1 Galang yang terdiri dari 4 kelas dengan jumlah siswa sebanyak 112 orang. Teknik pengumpulan data berupa tes kemampuan berpikir kritis, dan skala minat. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah dengan menggunakan rumus korelasi dan regresi. Hasil penelitian disimpulkan bahwa terdapat hubungan minat dengan kemampuan berpikir kritis dengan nilai korelasi sebesar 0,435 persamaan regresi Ŷ= 43,339 + 0,505X1

    Analisis Ekstrak Etanol Tangkai Daun Buasbuas (Premna pubescens) Menggunakan Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrophotometer (GCMS)

    Buasbuas (Premna pubescens) is a plant that is traditionally known to have medicinal properties. This study aims to determine the content of bioactive compounds contained in the petiole by Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrophotometer (GCMS) method. Preparation of ethanol extract of petiole using maceration method with 96% ethanol solvent. The study used gas chromatographic tools and mass spectra which were evaluated using MASSLAB program. The data obtained from the GCMS machine is then analyzed using the NCBI database pubchem software (https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/). The results of this study indicate that the content of bioactive compounds on the petioles of buasbuas more than 50 libraries contains about 150 species of compounds with a range of RT and% area respectively 4.684 to 28.155 and 0.16 to 15.56%. The content of bioactive compounds shown this data indicates that very large potential of buasbuas plants to be explored and exploitation as a nutritious plant. The results of this study can be used as the foundation in the development program of the potential utilization of bioassemblance of buasbuas plants. In further research it is necessary to analyze the other parts of the plant and make comparisons to complete the available databases

    ISOLASI SENYAWA BIOINSEKTISIDA PADA EKSTRAK ETANOL TUMBUHAN BUASBUAS (Premna pubescens Blume) DENGAN METODE GCMS

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pada bagian tumbuhan buasbuas (Premna pubescens Blume) manakah senyawa insektisida terakumulasi dan membandingkan jenis senyawa insektisida yang terdapat di daun muda, daun tua, tangkai daun, dan buah dengan teknik Gas Chromatography – Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). Ekstrak buasbuas dibuat menggunakan metode maserasi dengan pelarut etanol 96% dan di angin-anginkan hingga menjadi pasta. Pasta yang didapatkan kemudian dianalisis dengan GC-MS. Data yang diperoleh dari hasil GC-MS yang diidentifikasi dengan software PubChem (https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya senyawa 7-methyl-1-benzofuran yang merupakan insektisida terakumulasi pada daun muda sebanyak 0,011% dari total 87 senyawa bioaktif. Pada bagian tumbuhan buasbuas lainya tidak ditemukan senyawa insektisida. Pada daun muda dan daun tua ditemukan herbisida yaitu kelompok senyawa yang sama dengan insektisida tergolong kedalam senyawa “cydal”. Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah senyawa insektisida terdapat pada tanaman buasbuas, meskipun hanya satu jenis senyawa insektisida yang ditemukan dari keseluruhan senyawa bioaktif tanaman buasbuas yang diidentifikasi

    Junior High School Student’s Literacy of Science Concept: Electricity & Heredity

    High Order Thinking Skills (HOTs) is the way of thinking which should have been mastered by students everywhere early for their life skills. This HOTs skill has been internationally assessed since 2000 every three years attended by all OECD members includes Indonesia through Program International for Student Assessment (PISA). Result of PISA of Indonesian students from 2000 until 2018 still have achieved at level 1a of highest level 6 as national average. Considering geographical area located from West to East, it is very important to map students literacy in each area as base-line of creating integrated effort for Junior High School to increase student’s literacy. This descriptive study aims to promote the profile of Junior High School Literacy. About 40 of 9-grade students and two science teachers involved in this study as research subject. Data were obtained through participative observation, test and video typing for classroom activity during two months on the topic of heredity and electricity. Data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively as well. Result showed that students literacy still in low category based on national competence assessment. However there is increase of learning outcome proven by pretest (24.46), post test (33.46), and second post test (59.82). Looking into class level in detail based on daily assessment on the topic of electricity and heredity percentage of students literacy can be categorized as scientific comprehension (57%), higher than partial comprehension (19%) and naïve or wrong comprehension (24%). Student scientific comprehension promoted close to PISA literacy competencies includes explaining phenomena scientifically, evaluating and designing scientific enquiry, interpreting data and evidence scientifically. The study imply the important of keep improving daily science classroom activity which promote students higher order thinking skills in order to achieve better scientific literacy
