From transfers to capital: analyzing the Spanish demand for wealth using NTA

    Get PDF
Inter- and intra-family transfers are a very important part of our daily economic activity. These transfers, whether familial or public, may influence our economic decisions to the same extent that financial markets do. In this paper, we seek to understand how the Spanish stock of capital will evolve if the set of intergenerational transfers observed in year 2000 are maintained in the future. With that aim in mind, we have implemented a general equilibrium overlapping generations model with realistic public and familial transfers drawn from the National Transfer Accounts project (NTA). Given that familial transfers go from parents to children, and public transfers go from children to parents, we show that the Spanish baby boom and baby bust will make the second demographic dividend temporary, and that welfare will be reduced from 2040 onwards.Spain, demographic ageing, economic demography, economic growth

In an increasingly competitive world, organizations emphasize the impact they have on the environment in which they operate, which is why they develop Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policies as part of their organizational objectives. The objective of this research is to determine the effect of CSR on corporate reputation (CR) in a financial institution in Chiclayo 2023. It is a study with a quantitative approach and non-experimental design, where through an instrument duly validated with a sample of 390 SME clients of the referred entity, using the survey as a data collection technique, to later analyze the results obtained through the application of statistical methods. The results obtained have shown that there is a significant effect between CSR and CR, with a moderate level of correlation. However, this research has also shown that there are customers who perceive both CSR and CR at a low level. Therefore, future research could consider new complementary variables in order to enrich the results

Hybrid sunflower seed yield, composition and deterioration after chemical desiccation

    Get PDF
The impact of chemical desiccation on yield showed contrasting results depending on seed moisture content at the time of application. Its effects on seed deterioration are still unknown and could be modified by seed composition. Objectives were to evaluate the impact of chemical desiccation on: i) hybrid sunflower seed yield and composition at harvest time, ii) seed deterioration during long-term storage and iii) the relationship between seeds deterioration and oil or oleic acid content. Six hybrids including low, mid and high oleic were evaluated in three experiments. Two treatments were applied on female lines at 27-30% seed moisture: (i) spraying with Paraquat and (ii) detaching heads with a knife. Control remained in the field until 10% seed moisture. Seeds were stored during 19 months under room and cold chamber conditions. Yield, number of seeds and hybrid seed composition (thousand seed weight, kernel percentage, oil and acid oleic content) were determined. Seed deterioration during storage was analyzed by germination and vigour. Paraquat advanced harvest by 35-43 days, without affecting yield or seed composition. During storage the germination of Paraquat treatments remained above that of control, without differences between storage conditions, while vigour remained above control only in cold chamber, for low oleic hybrids. Associations between deterioration (germination and vigour) and oil or oleic acid content, were not significant. Desiccation with Paraquat allows advanced harvest without yield losses or modifications in seed composition. The deterioration of desiccated seeds was lower and independent from oil and oleic acid content.EEA Hilario AscasubiFil: Szemruch, C.L. Fil: Rondanini, Deborah Paola. Universidad Nacional de Lomas de Zamora; Argentina. The association of genetic predisposition to depressive symptoms with non-suicidal and suicidal self-Injuries

    Get PDF
Non-suicidal and suicidal self-injury are very destructive, yet surprisingly common behaviours. Depressed mood is a major risk factor for non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI), suicidal ideation and suicide attempts. We conducted a genetic risk prediction study to examine the polygenic overlap of depressive symptoms with lifetime NSSI, suicidal ideation, and suicide attempts in a sample of 6237 Australian adult twins and their family members (3740 females, mean age\ua0=\ua042.4\ua0years). Polygenic risk scores for depressive symptoms significantly predicted suicidal ideation, and some predictive ability was found for suicide attempts; the polygenic risk scores explained a significant amount of variance in suicidal ideation (lowest p\ua0=\ua00.008, explained variance ranging from 0.10 to 0.16\ua0%) and, less consistently, in suicide attempts (lowest p\ua0=\ua00.04, explained variance ranging from 0.12 to 0.23\ua0%). Polygenic risk scores did not significantly predict NSSI. Results highlight that individuals genetically predisposed to depression are also more likely to experience suicidal ideation/behaviour, whereas we found no evidence that this is also the case for NSSI

Novel genetic loci associated with hippocampal volume

The hippocampal formation is a brain structure integrally involved in episodic memory, spatial navigation, cognition and stress responsiveness. Structural abnormalities in hippocampal volume and shape are found in several common neuropsychiatric disorders. To identify the genetic underpinnings of hippocampal structure here we perform a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of 33,536 individuals and discover six independent loci significantly associated with hippocampal volume, four of them novel. Of the novel loci, three lie within genes (ASTN2, DPP4 and MAST4) and one is found 200 kb upstream of SHH. A hippocampal subfield analysis shows that a locus within the MSRB3 gene shows evidence of a localized effect along the dentate gyrus, subiculum, CA1 and fissure. Further, we show that genetic variants associated with decreased hippocampal volume are also associated with increased risk for Alzheimer’s disease (rg ¼ 0.155). Our findings suggest novel biological pathways through which human genetic variation influences hippocampal volume and risk for neuropsychiatric illness

Assessment and visualization of phenome-wide causal relationships using genetic data:an application to dental caries and periodontitis

    Get PDF
Hypothesis-free Mendelian randomization studies provide a way to assess the causal relevance of a trait across the human phenome but can be limited by statistical power, sample overlap or complicated by horizontal pleiotropy. The recently described latent causal variable (LCV) approach provides an alternative method for causal inference which might be useful in hypothesis-free experiments across human phenome. We developed an automated pipeline for phenome-wide tests using the LCV approach including steps to estimate partial genetic causality, filter to a meaningful set of estimates, apply correction for multiple testing and then present the findings in a graphical summary termed causal architecture plot. We apply this pipeline to body mass index (BMI) and lipid traits as exemplars of traits where there is strong prior expectation for causal effects, and to dental caries and periodontitis as exemplars of traits where there is a need for causal inference. The results for lipids and BMI suggest that these traits are best viewed as contributing factors on a multitude of traits and conditions, thus providing additional evidence that supports viewing these traits as targets for interventions to improve health. On the other hand, caries and periodontitis are best viewed as a downstream consequence of other traits and diseases rather than a cause of ill health. The automated pipeline is implemented in the Complex-Traits Genetics Virtual Lab ( https://vl.genoma.io ) and results are available in https://view.genoma.io . We propose causal architecture plots based on phenome-wide partial genetic causality estimates as a new way visualizing the overall causal map of the human phenome
