    Coronary heart disease is a disease that can threaten person\u27s life, and can lead to the change of the quality of life. This coronary heart disease can be solved with non-surgical called percutaneous coronary intervention. This action will be normalized the quality of perfusion in the coronary arteries, which would certainly have an impact on the quality of life of patients. The research objective was to observe the patient of quality of life after treatment on intervention percutaneous coronary. The research design was cross sectional. There were 50 respondents taken by consecutive sampling. Data were collected in outpatient room in RSUP Dr. Hasan Sadikin Bandung, who have came with treatment routine schedule after percutaneous coronary intervention during November 1st–14th 2013. The questionnaire use WHOQOL-BREF format with 26 questions that consisting of 4 domains of quality of life: physical domain, psychological domain, social domain, and environment domain. Majority of patients were male (74 %), with the range of age mostly 56-66 years ( 34 % ), married ( 96 % ), college education was the highest ( 66 % ), the majority had not a primary job like as housewife , retired, student, etc. ( 26 % ). Data were collected using the questionnaire WHOQOL – BREF. The result have shown that rates of quality of life was good ( 50 % ) and health condition after percutaneous coronary intervention neither satisfied nor dissatisfied ( 44 % ).     Exogenous Control over Intracellular Acidification: Enhancement via Proton Caged Compounds Coupled to Gold Nanoparticles

    The pH regulation has a fundamental role in several intracellular processes and its variation via exogenous compounds is a potential tool for intervening in the intracellular processes. Proton Caged Compounds (PPCs) release protons upon UV irradiation and may efficiently provoke intracellular on-command acidification. Here, we explore the intracellular pH variation, when purposely synthesized PCCs are coupled to gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and dosed to HEK-293 cells. We detected the acidification process caused by the UV irradiation by monitoring the intensity of the asymmetric stretching mode of the CO2 molecule at 2343 cm-1. The comparison between free and AuNPs functionalized proton caged compound demonstrates a highly enhanced CO2 yield, hence pH variation, in the latter case. Finally, PCC functionalized AuNPs were marked with a purposely synthesized fluorescent marker and dosed to HEK-293 cells.     Characterization of Metal Aggregates by Scanning Microscopy: Particle Sizes and Space Distribution in Intermetallic Particles

    Various metal aggregates prepared using ionizing radiation were studied by microscopy techniques. A metal deposit onto a carbon felt obtained from solutions containing Pt and Ru was shown to consist of nanometric particles containing both metals. Another study deals with a subnanometric silver aggregate. The nuclearity of the aggregate was studied by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). Additional information from pulse radiolysis experiments allowed the determination of the Ag73+ stoichiometry. The third material consisted of Ag/Pd submicron powders (70/30 or 75/25% w/w) used in electronics, and made of spherical bimetallic grains; X-ray diffraction showed segregation. The spatial distribution of each metal was obtained by combining space-resolved X-ray microanalysis in the transmission electron microscope, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and secondary ion mass spectrometry.     Oral candidiasis profile of the Indonesian HIV-infected pediatric patients at UPIPI Dr. Soetomo General Hospital, Surabaya, Indonesia

    Introduction Indonesia is stated as one of Asia’s fastest growing HIV epidemics, yet to date, studies on the characteristics of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, especially on Indonesian children, are very limited. Opportunistic infections, such as oral candidiasis have been an integral part of the disease and related to important diagnostic and prognostic values of the infection. The aim of this study was to determine the candidiasis profile of the Indonesian HIV-infected pediatric patients, and to correlate the clinical types of candidiasis with highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) use and the level of immune suppression. Material and methods HIV-infected pediatric patients attending the Intermediate Care and Infectious Disease Centre (UPIPI), Dr. Soetomo Hospital outpatient clinic between June-October 2017 were examined intraorally for the presence of oral candidiasis. Identification of Candida species was based on colony morphology on CHROM-Agar, hydrolysis of urea, carbohydrate fermentation tests, thermotolerance test, and microscopic morphology on slide culture from oral swab samples. Other relevant data regarding each patient were also obtained from medical records. Results Oral candidiasis was found in 55.17% patients, with 3 different clinical types: pseudomembranous (21.43%), erythematous (14.29%), and angular cheilitis (46.3%). There was a significant relationship between HAART with erythematous type (p < 0.05) and even stronger with the pseudomembranous type of Candida (p < 0.01). There was significant relationship between the level of immune suppression and pseudomembranous type (p < 0.05) and even stronger with the erythematous type (p < 0.01). Conclusions Concurrent pseudomembranous and erythematous candidiasis may indicate advanced progression of HIV-infected pediatric patients, therefore further studies are required to validate our findings

    Swollen liquid crystals (SLCs): A versatile template for the synthesis of nano structured materials

    Liquid crystal (LCs) is the state of matter that exhibits properties between a conventional liquid and solid crystals. Liquid crystals mainly can be classified into two types: thermotropic and lyotropic liquid crystals. A thermotropic liquid crystal shows properties that are dependent on temperature conditions. On the other hand in lyotropic liquid crystals (LLCs), the amphiphiles are dissolved in a solvent and exhibit liquid crystalline properties in certain concentration ranges. In the literature, lot of reviews have been presented on thermotropic and lyotropic liquid crystals (LLCs). But nowadays, swollen liquid crystals (SLCs) have become a much more important area of research because of their easily tunable properties, their stability and versatility of the system. Swollen liquid crystals (SLCs) consist of infinite liquid crystalline non polar cylinders organized on a hexagonal lattice in a polar medium and are prepared with the proper ratios of salted water and non polar solvents with cationic or anionic or non ionic surfactants and co surfactants i.e. water:oil:surfactant:cosurfactant. In this review article, we will briefly discuss the synthesis of swollen liquid crystals (SLCs), factors affecting their stability, different kinds of nanomaterials such as metallic, bimetallic, polymeric nanostructures synthesized inside swollen liquid crystals (SLCs) using different methods and the effect of swollen liquid crystal (SLC) confinement on the final morphology of nanomaterials with their potential applications. © 2017 The Royal Society of Chemistry
